[AKIRA] Can I buy Japanese manga in the United States?

- There used to be many bookstores in Japan.
However, the number of bookstores has decreased in inverse proportion to the spread of the Internet. However, there are still many bookstores in Japan.
Bookstores are rarely found in the United States. Even in big cities like Newyork and Los Angeles, there are only a few bookstores.
I went to Barnes & Noble, the largest bookstore chain in the United States.
Currently, Japanese animation is gaining momentum in the United States. If I walk around the city, there is no day when I don't see Japanese anime T-shirts such as Dragon Ball and Naruto.
Especially, Japanese animations being broadcast on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, etc. are popular.
Anime that is currently hit in Japan, such as "DEMON SLAYER" and "My Hero Academia," is also hit in the United States at the same time. From SHOWA era anime to current anime such as "Hunter Hunter", "Bleach", "Evangelion", "High Score Girl", "Attack on Titan", "Jojo", "Saint Seiya", "Mospeda" People all over the world are enjoying all kinds of anime that Japanese people are familiar with.
So what about manga?
What is the atmosphere of an American bookstore, and is there a manga book section?
For this video, I went to a bookstore in search of the American version of "AKIRA" by KATSUHIRO OTOMO, one of my favorite manga.

Gets pretty deep and you learn early on that he was born from a dead hanging body in the middle of a battle, hence his name Guts. Very gory and intense series with amazing character development and writing. Highly recommend picking it up
If people who don’t watch wwe were watching this, they probably wouldn’t believe that she’s one of the most talented and vicious women’s wrestlers of all time. 😅

You pronounced Barnes and Noble correctly! Sorry they didn't have Akira. I want to say it hasn't had a reprint in a while, which might be why its harder to find in stores.

This woman fought Minoru fuckin' Suzuki and told him to give her a stiff headbutt, and ever since she lost to Charlotte, she's been floundering ever since. Even when she won the title at TLC 2018, it was only because of outside interference, and was given NOTHING to work with for nearly the whole time she had the belt, minus the match vs. Becky. She then dropped it to Charlotte two weeks before Mania with zero buildup, and was then demoted to being in the preshow battle royal.

Asuka almost single handedly got me into WWE again. WWE she's that wild kind of weird and crazy, youtube she's that funny kooky kind of crazy and i LOVE it. it's almost like she's an anime character. I'm serious not sure if it's a quirk of the japanese language, but i find that a lot of times the emotions she express through her speech is what you'd expect from an anime character.

Some backstory for you: Barnes & Noble used to be seen as an evil conglomerate that put small stores out of business (kinda like Walmart). But then Amazon came along and put a ton of bookstores (large and small) out of business. Now Barnes & Noble is seen as the scrappy underdog fighting _against_ an evil conglomerate. Just recently, a hedge fund purchased Barnes & Noble and appointed James Daunt as CEO. He bought a struggling chain of bookstores in England and helped turn them around, and he wants to do the same for Barnes & Noble. He seems to genuinely love books too, so I think they're in good hands.
Also, my local Barnes & Noble has more manga than American comics. They also sell a lot of Gunpla and Figuarts.
So Barnes & Noble had a face turn.
I still like Books-A-Million better, but they're more of a regional chain, and the Barnes and Nobles at the mall has a Starbucks in it, and I hate Starbucks.
