"I ate your food. I'm sorry and you're welcome." - James May
Welcome for the lack of hospitality and not giving the fellow a decent meal !
Best line ever 😂😂😂
“Why don’t they get their own bloody lunch?” 😆
Patmanduu uh come back to ur comment u got 1.2k likes..
But he is right
Lol
Because the new york times is socialist and socialists dont have food.
Tanvir! 'o' Its James May’s comment strictly.
The chef was so chill about it, he probably hates the fact he has to make that weird lunch and no one eats it they just film it in a media piece, he looked genuinely happy that James had eaten it.
@@WhiteCourtain < This guy chef's
No but seriously chefs are always happy when their meal is eaten and appreciated, not when used as a media tool and chucked in the trash.
Its a strange obsession we have as chefs, but nothing makes us happier than actually seeing our guests eat and love the food that we have been trained to make for many years.
To the point where we can see it in customers eyes how much they are enjoying themselves.
@@thrand6760 this isn't a strange obsession at all. You best believe I'd be happy if people appreciated my hard work, instead of wasting my time and effort. You guys are absolutely in the right here!
A chef is an artist and their is meant to be consumed.
@@elirien4264 wow. Perfectly captures what I meant. Brilliant!
“The chef took pity and gave me some edible lunch”
That chef was so chill. He looks fed up with throwing out cold food that nobody is allowed to eat haha

“Can I drink this wine or does the New York Times want to take a photograph of it”
Absolute legend for that statement
"I was now too nervous to eat it" awwwww, you gotta feel bad for him after that
That was the line that made me burst out laughing.
i read that as he said it 😳
ROFLed so hard when he said that
honestly this is more of an embarrassment for the train that they didn't let him eat the food, I mean, it's not like they can't afford it right?
the question is if that is food
yeah seems weird that they didn't want to make a fresh set of food for every media person so they can also taste it? "The food looked delicious. No clue how it tasted tho. 5/10"
Japan doesn't have the resources available to compete on quantity.. Of anything really. Beef, steel, electronics, manufacturing. So they compete on quality. Likely they had made a selection of the absolute best quality ingredients to make an art piece for photographing, and later you'd get a meal for eating.
Similar to the food for advertising. You wouldn't actually want to eat that exact one, because it's airbrushed or whatever. It's just that in Japan it's all real.
I don’t like that blame atmosphere, that media lady hadn’t prepared James before the shot.
Pretty sure it was intentional. Spice things up a bit.
Japan in a nutshell.
@@treeriders yo, I was going to say the exact same thing

There are enough passengers.
rather, "Lunch not permitted"
May should do these for every country
thats how you make money XD
Make a fuss about eating a bite sized salmon, but since he said sorry, they gave James a full meal...that's a win
it's not about the food but the principle and respect as the crew promised to let everyone film it first but instead he ate it.
@@chiefbosnmate salmon is Way better than any steak.
@@jackal2568 i would too
@@szepatel6468 nah
he made millions a year, dont you think he want to eat a full meal after being imbarrassed ?
Apologized to the whole train, the chef feels bad and gives him food to eat. Proceeds to passive-aggressively ask if he can eat every bite and even drink the wine. Lol, this is the most British thing ever.
"Well, I wouldn't want to offend you by not asking first if I can eat the food your waiter sets in front of me."
I would hardly call itt passive aggressive and more paranoia if anything and it was very much justified.
I would have done the same thing to be honest
Honestly, if they had not wanted him to eat it, they should have planned the press allowance better. If your sitting at a table, someone brings food, they watch you unravel a napkin and pick up utensils, they should have said something then. Your interpreter is at fault here.
Part of me thinks this was set up for comedy. Or yea they dropped the ball and did not pay attention when James was getting ready to eat.
How about they not even serve him the food while he is still sitting there ?
I imagine they told him something like "We're going to film this and then you can eat." Miscommunication.
Literally no warning... it's like they specifically waited for him to start eating and then blamed him
Agreed. if nobody actually told him not to eat it, that's on them.
It's like that instagram fake life "look my fancy food" but actually they can't it eat
I'm glad James May doesn't get that lame trend
I think James doesn't get why people that live the 'high life' have to act different, believe he said something about it himself about a year ago in a documentary.
@@TobiasRieper047 very interesting, he seems to be a simple man, money and fame don't seem to have gotten to him
@@Aazerka he's just a proper British bloke.
It's a media event. The whole point it to promote the train. It's not like he actually booked a ticket with the lunch included.
@@Michael_800 I think he expected that he was reviewing the food and that involves eating it.
How can you not love James may?
As you know it is Bim!
Because I get told I look like him.
Well in fact there are two men who hates James, who are addressed by James as "Blithering Idiots" and they go by the name of:

Obviously if your Richard hammond or Jeremy Clarkson
"She looked at me as if I didn't explain to you."

It's a pretty big joke that they won't prepare enough meals for a few Journalists.

No you did not.
trAovm rtqaq *_oh ok_*
Ahhhhhhhhh. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh... hahahahahaahaha!
@Pink Alien Well, I mean it's pretty simple either he's allowed to eat it or he isn't. Clearly from May's reaction to the _revelation_ that he shouldn't eat it (unless he's feigning ignorance) he didn't know....hence it wasn't explained to him, at least not well enough anyway.
@@carlhartwell7978 You'd think this would be obvious, but of course *some people* can't think like normal people and assume that the OP has knowledge that we don't.
@Pink Alien there are two types of people in this world. There's the ones that can extrapolate from incomplete data.

Love James May.
3:19 Excuse you, lady. It's not his fault. If they didn't want James to eat it, the crew and interpreter should've told him before the food was brought to him. But I guess this "mistake" made the episode more entertaining.
The warning sign for the camera crew would have been when he picked up the knife and fork IMO...
Right? What did they think he was doing? Especially if no on told him explicitly not to eat it.
They had between 2:00 to 2:09 before he picked up the food to let him know
I like how he slowly unfolds the napkin, puts it on his lap and they still say NOTHING, lol. That lady should have spoken up well before he stabbed it with a fork and put it in his mouth.
Deathbrewer Exactly. I’ve never seen anyone put on a napkin and NOT eat 😂
