  • When ‪@Jeep‬ introduced the #JeepGladiator two years ago, it become one of the most anticipated and sought after midsize trucks on the market. For 2021, Jeep is expanding the lineup with the #GladiatorEcoDiesel. With 442 lb-ft of torque and up to 28 MPG, the #JeepGladiatorEcodiesel should continue to be a very desirable truck for those who don't always need to do the most capable truck activities.

    Even after 2 years, the Jeep Gladiator is still a very enticing truck, even more so with the EcoDiesel! We should be driving the new Wrangler 4xe soon, do you guys think Jeep may eventually offer the PHEV and V8 powertrains from the Wrangler?

      I PAID $42k for my diesel JT and it’s got tons of options

    One of the reviews noted how easy it is for the diesel version to move over large rocks. The extra torque makes all the difference.

    Only complaint I have about my ecodiesel engine is the turbo/engine lag from take off. Especially if the truck is cold. It's absolutely frustrating. Once warranty is gone it will be time to chip and delete. Then it'll be a beast for what it is.

    I have an Eco-Diesel in my Gladiator Willys and it is fine. I do not know why so many think it needs to be modded and changed. I have driven diesels for 20 years and there is Nothing wrong with the Gladiator.

    That Fiat Diesel engine is very reliable and pulls strong. They use it in different versions in the Iveco trucks

      That's not a Fiat or an Iveco engine. They had a Iveco diesel inline 4 in the early Promasters but sadly it was discontinued. It was a good motor. This Engine is a V.M. Motori engine design.

      V.M. Motori you are right, but at the end is a company own by Fiat. If I’m not mistaken even GM develops their Diesel engine in Italy.

    It will take you 30 years to recover costs in fuel efficiency compared to 3.6. I love diesel engines and they're the more practical option especially considering carbon footprint compared to electric and longevity. But man, they sure did gut the appeal

      It's not about recovering engine costs based on fuel mpg... its more about torque and overall driving range.

      I had a 2016 jeep jk wrangler 3.6 pentistar engine, I had a 2017 5.7 L hemi rebel, and now I have a 2018 ram 1500 ecodiesel. The fuel economy isn't even comparable. The ecodiesel has saved me so much fuel its ridiculous. The 3.6 L was a thirsty engine. The 5.7 L hemi was stupid on fuel. I get 24-26 mpg on my ecodiesel. 22 towing a 5x8 fully loaded utility trailer all the time.

      Depends on how you run your Numbers and what you do with the truck. My rundown, maintenance costs included, is 7 years to break even. Mainly because I eat miles with these. If you use your diesel in the city only, you’re right, it’s not a good pick.

    Hopefully it holds up better then the first gen EcoDiesel. Buddy has a ram that threw a rod 5k miles past warranty FCA just laughed at him and quoted him 15k for a new engine

      The first 2 years of the ecodiesels, absolute garbage and they were using the wrong oil. I have a 2018 eco diesel ram and I love it. No issues whatsoever

      The transmission and engine are fine. What irritates me about the Wrangler/Gladiator is the trendy/hipster, "cult following" that it portrays. I live in Vegas and everyone, I mean, everyone has a Wrangler and every, single, Wrangler/Gladiator is "Bro'ed out". Its like - You're not "cool" unless you drive a Wrangler/Gladiator and spend your life savings on hooking it up. Its extremely, monotonous.

    This is the engine that should be an option for the Promaster 3500. The Promaster has only one gasoline engine in a market that needs a diesel engine for delivery services.

    So I thought It's weird the towing is lowered because the diesel doesn't have as much horsepower... but I thought towing was all about torque, I thought that's why every one who tows big RV campers wants diesel?

      you can't out tow the brakes. after extra weight of diesel is added the total towing is decreased by that amount. some early Ford Rangers were at/over their weight with just a full cab of adults...

    Based on current diesel/regular gas prices average mileage driven by cars in the US, the improved mileage will cover the price premium for the diesel .....in about 10 years, unless you drive a lot. In the meantime you sacrifice pay load and towing capacity. As you said, it is a life style vehicle. Few people by what they need in a vehicle. They buy what they want/like. Just like me. 😎

      I paid $42k for my diesel Jeep. It’s rated to tow 6500lbs which is all a midsize ever should tow and my payload is 1350lbs

    I'd buy one if there was an ecodiesel model in Canada. Got a 2018 ram 1500 ecodiesel and I love it. The 3.6 is garbage. Had it in my jeep jk 4 door and I went through fuel like the 5.7 L hemi.

    I have spoken to 4 new Jeep owners over the last 9 months and all have had a breakdown which required towing to the dealership. One ended up suing them on the lemon law to get a full refund. The Jeeps certainly look good but have horrid dependability. Something I want to point out is that NONE of these owners had Diesel engines. Not sure if that makes a difference ?

    In your opinion do you think that truck has a bed big enough for your everyday life? I live in the burbs like you do and I use my truck to move car parts for my project car, camping stuff, and the occasional piece of furniture here and there. I have come to learn my Ram 1500 crew short bed is TOO BIG. Annoying to park and maneuver despite being an amazing truck. I have thought to myself the best in that truck is too small at times. The price on the Gladiator is a bit of chest clincher. It's about 10-15k more then other truck I'd consider BUT it's a convertible... so not as easy to write off...

It’s a midsize truck who’s GVRW is higher than any other peer’s. The diesel weighs 400 extra pounds thus reducing payload and hitch max.

They contract builds and designs to other manufacturers etc. That said name your issue with Fiat, today's Fiat,not your Daddy's Fiat.

      @@yelapa999 That's why they are still V.M. Motori and not Fiat. It's because they're not Fiat but a company under the Fiat brand. Business is like that. Just like Ram and Cummins. Cummins is an engine builder that produces engines for several different manufacturer and applications including all over the road truck buliders and Nissan. Another example is Freightliner whom partners with Mercedes etc. They own share of each other but are not exclusive. Read and learn.

    $60 to $75 thousand dollars Canadian where I live for this POS Jeep product. At Houston airport they are always trying to rent these out to people, but few take them. It states a lot when you see them lined up in the parking lot.

    Always loved the JEEP lifestyle, exploring, camping, outdoors, getting back to nature NOT mall crawlers freeway queens. But outside of the 4 liter straight six
    that was sold for 3 decades Jeep has always been utter unreliable
    crudely built 1/4 ton POS until TJs offered 1/2 ton dana 44 axles
    but till this day Jeep represents made in the US / Mexico crap.
    Such a shame.

      Well... That's a good question. I mean for the Gladiator being designed to be a truck I couldn't see it being a "lifestyle" truck. A lifestyle truck would be closer to the Ridgeline and upcoming Santa Cruz.

      I own a massive solar business. We own dozens of THIRD generation rams, many of which are heading toward 90k miles already. Absolutely zero problems with any of them

      @@smarterthanyou2674 awesome glad to hear that. I always wanted the ecodiesel ram truck. But watching the reviews with people who bought the truck their complaints where that engine was blowing up at 75k. I'm happy that your trucks are running fine. 😀👌

    Stay away. They have quality control issues. Get a Toyota Tacoma. Jeep still did horrible in crash test. It's 2021.

    Those engines have serious issues and are incredibly expensive to repair. Dodge has completely gone down hill.

      My business owns 38 3rd gen ecodiesel rams and not one of them has had a trip back to the dealer. Many already have over 80k on the odometer

      My friends neighbors 2017 Grand Cherokee Summit Diesel still runs at about 60k miles. No problems yet.
