    You make good and interesting videos. Strong points are video stability, clear and concise information. I observe these too....you are very close to your mom, she is nice and unpretentious, your brother I assume, is rather funny. BTW, here in the US most of these delish foods you profile are not available....or double the prices, in USD if they are. Thanks for the effort. You are definitely among the top tenth of Malaysian CZcamsrs so far, despite their view numbers. Your excellent English is by far superior to most there too.

    Corrrection - Kaya is "NOT" made from pandan leaves - more from the essence or juice of the pandan leaves

    • @sara_khong
      @sara_khong  Před 3 lety

      Hello Michael. Is that how you make coconut jam? Would love to have the recipe.
      I have a simple recipe where I just tie the pandan leaves (no juice). Check it out here: www.newmalaysiankitchen.com/kaya-jam-coconut-jam-5-ingredients-15-minutes/

    • @michaelchin3734
      @michaelchin3734 Před 3 lety

      @@sara_khong Sara, you will find that the flavour is more "intense" by extracting the essence from the pandan leaves rather then tie the pandan leave and leave this in the kaya pot to infuse. Also the pandan leaves takes up more space in the pot. My grand parents used to use the tie method and by the time they take the pandan leaves out, only 80% of the kaya is left. Nowadays with the help of a blender, blend the pandan leaves, add a bit of water and then squeeze the essence out - like you do for coconut cream ( first squeeze ) follow by coconut milk ( 2nd and subsequent squeeze ). Give it a go and you can taste the difference. Finally, use "Malaysian Pandan leaves" rather then "Thai Pandan leaves"

    • @sara_khong
      @sara_khong  Před 3 lety

      I'm sure it will! I have pandan in my garden so it's easy for me to get good, fresh pandan :D If you have a good written recipe one day, please remember me and share with me. Would love to try making kaya with pandan juice. Thank you for your tips!

      @@sara_khong Sara, you may have to wait a bit longer. I live in London and do not get that many opportunities to return to Malaysia to see my siblings. Moreover I can not get the "right" ingredients to make an authentic Malaysian kaya ( do not like substitute tin coconut milk and can not get "kampong" chicken eggs and only Thai pandan leaves )

    • @tonycheahca
      @tonycheahca Před 3 lety

      Kaya is made sugar, eggs and pandan essence to get the taste and aroma. Penang otak otak is made slices of fish with daun kaduk, turmeric, eggs, kafir lime leaves, santan. Not fish paste. One should be knowledgeble about the things or food that you are commenting. Not to just tembak.
