Ex-Tumblrite here, and the gay man Pride flag has been around for several years now. One of the big reasons it was designed was to reaffirm that the rainbow is supposed to represent the *whole* community rather than “defaulting” to mean “gay man unless otherwise specified.”

Back in the 00's they were the ONLY store at the mall, or anywhere in my conservative area, that had gay stuff. I have a rainbow patch that says 'recruiter' that i bought from them back then that I'm too afraid to wear now lol.
Hot Topic always felt like the safest/chillest place to be in the mall to me as a teen. The employees were so nice and I idolized their ability to do graphic eyeliner

There used to be some artists on Etsy, as well, but unfortunately, the wave of larger businesses using Etsy has drowned them out. I'll edit/update this comment when (if) I can find the sellers I was thinking about.
Edit: Haven't been able to confirm it, but Fest Fabulous is a small business that I think is ethically run. Ditto to Zolnar. I don't think they're registered by the BBB, so I can't double-check. Used to be easier before mass-manufactured items took over Etsy.

Those Facebook collages reminded me of one of the few good experiences I had in school. Towards the end of 4th grade, the teacher had us all write one-word compliments for each of our classmates. Then, based on the class’s compliments, she created a collage for each student shaped like one their favorite things, then printed and framed all of them to give as end of year gifts. Mine was shaped like a guinea pig because I had five of them and would sometimes get to bring one to class if I behaved exceptionally well. (It wasn’t unsupervised; my mom would come in with one for the last class of the day and everyone would get to pet them.) As for the compliments, I believe the biggest one was “intelligent” since I was the class’s biggest nerd. It was so refreshing that, for once, I was praised for being a nerd instead of bullied.
Experiences like this make my C-PTSD all the more complicated. I have a lot of school trauma, but the teachers who hurt me did so without realizing it and actually cared about me. They weren’t taught how to properly handle an autistic child, and even though they failed, they still tried. Those who were abused have someone to blame, but in my case, I just turn it inwards and hate myself…

That’s one of my favorite parts of Hot Topic. They’re basically the only place I can go and get Pride stuff the rest of the year. Spencer’s also has some but Spencer’s feels very claustrophobic to me. Plus they keep a lot of their pride stuff in the back, and well, being sex-repulsed ace, the back section of Spencer’s makes me kind of uncomfortable. It also happens to be one of the only places I’ve found specifically asexual pride merch. Got a super cute ace pride cup from there that I adore.
