I know everyone (including me) is obsessed with joeys face during show stopping number, but Lauren looks so dead inside the entire song and it kills me every time

MariMarMakeup SFX When I watched the digital ticket version of TGTDLM I was familiar enough with the show by that point that all I did was keep my eyes on Joey whenever he was in view because his face expressions were gold every time. Whether he was admiring Show Stopping Number or whether he was pretending to not be interested in Charlotte's, "Sam didn't come home last night" story his face expressions and body posture/movements as Ted was a treat.
this wouldnt be possible if the starkids were bad actors but lets appreciate that this is also because nick lang is a GOOD ASS DIRECTOR

As a theatre kid who's done many, many an ensemble role I'm letting you know right now every single one of those background characters have complex backstories and probably have all of their relationships with the other background characters deeply developed. That being said Starkid 100% does this the best and I adore them
i believe it hearing tcb talk about how each of the scientists in spies are forever had their own backstories

Trail to Oregon is actually about Craphole's desire to dance. He wants to dance during Independence, he starts dancing halfway through The Grind, and steals Wagon on Fire. I always watch Lauren in the background during The Grind. Son begging to dance is adorable.

It's interesting how much this trained my brain to not automatically look at whoever was singing in the not fully zoomed in clips. And I never noticed Gretel and Hans getting so excited when the audience joined in the chant, lol!

I personally love doing background acting more than I love doing regular acting, it's much more improve-based, and it really helps you get to know your character. It's also my favorite thing to watch when I go and see a show, because some people just make it the funniest thing ever and I love it.

I was in the hospital for 2 days this week and once they drew blood and used a tourniquet and I had _Independence_ stuck in my head for hours.

this is how all theatre should be done! part of what makes starkid so great is everyone's commitment to the scene and characters
Starkids background acting is so good. I've always loved their shows for it lol. It just adds a bit of humor and a small detail that just makes me laugh every time I rewatch them

Background acting is the best part of being in an ensemble scene. As a theatre kid principle roles are always awesome, as you get scenes starring you, but being in the background and doing little interactions with other people is awesome.
