It's cool to see when people leave the stage but you don't notice
It makes me feel like a toddler like “Oh! You’re here! I had no clue you ever left.”
my favourite is in Feast or Famine, where James and Robert just book it out of shot
Okay but can we appreciate Robert’s quick change when he becomes the bread salesman because not only did he have to get on a new costume, but he also had to grab his prop and run to the very back of the theatre in time for his entrance!!
Can we appreciate that he wore three costumes after la Dee da day while dancing so well
I think we can all agree that Joey being everyone that's not the main cast in Trail to Oregon is the best quick changing I've ever seen on stage. But I suppose if I have to choose one character to another it would be when Joey quick changes from the homeless guy to Ted after La De Da Da Day. I know it's just a jacket and a hat but still, that's some impressive costuming. :)
Tsukikumoon the best quick changing you’ve ever seen?? Watch the solve it squad returns...
the thing about quick changes is you dont only have to change costume but also have to change character really quick and with roles so differently that can be a challenge
Switching from homeless guy to Ted?... And now we know they're the same character XDD
Half of this is just "they changed costumes? when did they go off the stage? i didn't notice that at all"
lizzyserf Saame! In TGWDLM i watched the songs so much but it still took me a while to realize when Jaime and Corey left to change costumes. Even when it’s on camera Starkid is so good at moving attention away from people leaving the stage mid-scene
Then there's Robert
robert can be the centre of attention and he'll leave
I never realised that Jafar's change into a Djinn happened onstage
me neither before this video
A bit of cool info: the cutoff was most likely a bit of prepared improv. If it took Jafar 16 seconds instead of 12, Aladdin would still have some stuff he could say. In the productions ive been in, we had a signal off stage for if the actors needed more time.
Yeah. I never noticed that he took his robe off on stage. Idk what he does after that though.
@@leftoverlemons930 yeah, I backstaged on a Frankenstein musical were Frankenstein starts as a normal guy and after he died gets turned into green Frankenstein, we did it so a hospital curtain covered his body and allowed him to quickly run off stage while a double took his spot under a blanket for some shadow puppet stuff (pulling out organs and the head etc) and the guy had at most 10 minutes to get changed and if he returned early the actors would just make the surgery scene go quicker
not only did joe have to change his clothes but he also had to put on tap shoes for to dance again
For which one?
Trey Atkins him and Quirrel behind the cauldron (as Voldy)
@@amrit3883 Thank you
Hidgens isn't a costume
_Hidgens is a lifestyle_
you‘re so right
the hidgens is a way of life why do more people not live it.
like hmmmm vegan or hidgens?
wHO WOULDNT SAy HIDGENS?!!!?
I made it 666

Hidgens is my lifestyle
@@BasilTreeee after Nightmare time, it sounds like admiting that you are Mysoginist.
I don’t know if it counts, but what about “oX LiKe mE”
you're so right how could i miss the most important costume change
ohohohoho. _ohohohohoho. HA._
Greta Blackwell YES THANK YOU FOR THAT
0.2 seconds.
yes ikk
aww you forget the best one. in tgwdlm lauren changes from the yellow dress to her emma costume in only 13 seconds. it’s during the scene when alice gets infected and the army comes. a channel called “only lauren lopez” made an edit of tgwdlm but it’s only lauren and she pointed it out in that vid. that’s how i know specific numbers lol
Oh yes i really missed that one, thank you!
omg thanks for watching my video!!
i was waiting for that one!!!
I watched TGWDLM yesterday and realized that during the storm scene Mariah has THREE different characters to change into back to back. She goes from Green Peace Lady to Zoey (29 seconds) to Alice (24 seconds)!
this is why the Beanies' uniform were shorts and a white peter pan blouse with short sleeves
i would kill for you to include the solve it squad in this bc half of them are just ".25 seconds as Brian changes his entire posture and 1 prop"
i‘ve actually been thinking about doing a second part because people keep adding costume changes i didn‘t include
Dikrat Productions do it!!
Though technically not Starkid, though nobody would bat an eye if the next one was "Starkid & TCB".
4:48 can we talk about how subtly Joe walked into the scene I had to watch this 4 times to understand how he did it
Yes I watched Twisted four times but honestly who hasn’t
He came out doing the dance too so I never realized he even came out
The switching camera angles probably helped it too. Plus he and Jafar wear the same colors.
Same I never saw him get on maybe because my attention is always on Robert when he’s on stage help😭😭
the fastest changes were when Joey changes from Citizen 1 to Citizen 2 to Citizen 3 while spitting different facts in Independence in TTO
hohohohoh hohohohoho HA! OX LIKE ME
Citizen to McDoon took me a few run throughs to actually notice he moved complete switch of personality sure helps.
i think your forgetting in avps snape changes into younger snape in 1 second
YES
I wish that I could change to younger Alison in one second.
@@Rosalia.Mine. Do you mean Bill's ex wife Alison or yourself? ;)
My greatest achievement in theatre was organizing a 15 second quick change for one of the leads that saw her changing her shoes, pinning a veil to her wig, putting on lace gloves, and getting into a wedding dress.
I held the dress above the shoes, which she stepped onto, then I pulled the dress up, helped her get her arms through the sleeves, zipped her, and dropped down to buckle her shoes while another person pinned the veil and 2 more put her gloves on (one at each hand).
It was super stressful but also really fun
sweet jesus
I had to do something similar for a Cinderella wedding transition right before the pandemic. I'm not sure how long it took but we ended up just having Cindy wear the wedding dress under her maid outfit, so all we had to do was accessories. Still super freakin stressfull
joey at the end is my favorite because for the end you’d expect some grand “let it go” type thing but there he is. putting on his hat.
When I was like 7, two actors came into school and did a performance playing multiple characters. They would walk behind a screen - literally like walk behind it for 1 second and come out again - and have a completely different costume. All our collective kid minds were blown.
What about in AVPS when Nick has to change from a black suit to Mama Umbridge in like a minute twenty?
...shwoopsie
Dikrat Productions at this rate you gotta make a part two
zero dislikes, let us all worship the duck so that he may bring light to this channel
omg you‘re so nice thank you
HE IS LÖOOOORD
ALL HAIL THE DUCK
13 dislikes now? Unlucky for some I guess. This is all your fault Jafar
Dikrat Productions you keep on making kiddo. Not the videos we need, but the videos we desperately need
me, a costume director, watching this and crying:
In HMB Dylan goes from Green Lantern to Scarecrow in 50 seconds.
Aka the whole of the trail to oregon starring Joey Richter!!
If only TCB was included then you’d have to have the bit where Joey quickly turns from the casino waiter to Owen for like one second.
oh yes!
G o o d
Also the bit where Joe changes into Joey in like 15 seconds max... wait that doesn't sound right
Yeah and the flashback part with Curt (although I’m not sure if it counts as just a costume change since everyone’s kinda participating in that one)
And he also has to run upstairs while doing this. I love the dedication just for Curt to have a really brief gay flashback
This is giving me flashbacks from when I had 30 seconds to go from The Tinman to a farmhand at the end of Wizard of Oz. So many baby wipes... so much silver......
30 seconds??
@@dikratproductions9657 YEAH i know it doesn't sound legit but i swear to god i had to basically strip in the wing. I wore my farmhand costume underneath (put it on during intermission) so it wasn't really changing but it was painful
Omg I had such a similar experience going from the witch back to the evil woman at the end, I think I had like 2 minutes but I had a full costume change from the witch dress to like a different black dress, a crap tonne of baby wipes and grabbing the basket the dog was supposed to be in
And getting into the witch was also p stressful as I had to leave most of the way through getting painted and changed to go be crushed by the house as east, then come off and get the full way done so that they looked different
I remember so many times we had to do quick costume changes, I'd just wear a cami and bike shorts under every costume because there were times where you had to step off stage, do a full costume change, and walk on at the other end of the stage. We'd have to change as we walked. Honestly for me the hardest part was having to change my hair as a different character too. I'd start with a braid for character A, a ponytail for B, a bun for C, loose hair for D, if I was lucky I got to wear a wig instead.
Robert as Professer dude is really just a dream daddy character no one can change my mind
Sugar Wafer they should 100% make him a character
I know joey’s changes at the end were simple but the way he changes character is impressive. Like the voice and stance and mood change not just the costume. Ok I just love him 😤😩💖
joey's quick changes during independence is like an overdose of serotonin
I remember once I had a complete costume change in 30 seconds now that was stressful
I had to change a complete suit with dress shirt, tie and shoes in that time as well. Not fun at all!
I once had about 15 seconds to take off a belt & sweater and put on a skirt & blouse oof
And in the same show I had 1 minute to change into a prom dress and one night the zipper broke... absolute hell
i was narrator/mysterious man in into the woods and i had a full costume change in 7 seconds towards the end of act one. i missed that cue 9/12 times
Madden Windham holy cow! now that is impressive
Excuse me but WHERE is Brian Rosenthal during the entirety of The Solve-It Squad Returns???
i didn‘t include tcb but i‘ll probably do a second part
I had to do a 1-2 minute ish (don't remember the exact timing) quick change from a t-shirt and pants to a wedding dress complete with heels and tiara once. After which I had to sing a solo immediately. It was beyond stressful. I had 3 people helping me take off my clothes and put on the dress.
4 years later I now know what it's like to have to quick change to completely different outfits including shoes just about every other scene without people helping you. Starkids are legends for being able to do all these insane changes time and time again!
Once, when I played Annie, my school cut the song I was supposed to change into the iconic red Annie dress so I had 10 seconds to completely change outfits and hairstyles. Absolute chaos. There were 3 moms waiting in the wings that just attacked me as I came off.
Wait Joe is wearing a wig as Commander Up?! I always assumed they put grey stuff in his normal hair
yeah, looking back on it i think so too
i‘m doing a second part! i don‘t know when that will happen but please leave your suggestions for other quick costume changes
When Mariah had to put the Greenpeace costume again?
Can you add tin can bros stuff too please (Brosenthal in SiS)
Joe Walker in SAF!
SAF SPOILERS
Joey in SAF I forget when but he’s one character and then leaves to be Owen
There are a couple Owen flashbacks that Joey does, and Eyes on the Prize II has a few quickies too
I’ve never noticed joey on his costume change into mcdooon! It’s so cool how they can trick the audience into looking at a certain thing so you don’t notice people coming and going.
Jamie: subtly floats off stage so quietly I had not noticed she did that until now after 5 years
Robert: BOING
Someone hasn't been a dresser on a show that's ALL quick changes.
I've been a dresser on a show where I had to get an actor out of a full body cape, then a 1880s dress, and into a period jacket in under 10 seconds. I had 2 other people helping me but it was crazy every time. The rigging is EXTENSIVE. I make the costumes now and quick rigging is truly engineering.
my theater did a production of A Wrinkle in Time last year, and boy, was the Mrs. Whatsit costume hard to do. Macy (the girl who played her) ran offstage and 3 people got her entire dress changed in under an minute. I think the record was 54 seconds. We came up with extra dialogue in case it took longer. She also had an amazing outfit change onstage where she spun around and unlatched something on her dress. That show is my favorite because of that.
This doesn't negate how impressive any of these quick changes are, but sometimes when everyone leaves stage, they skip a bit of footage to help the show run better. For example, some of the transitions in Tgwdlm are significantly shortened in the CZcams show than live/the digital ticket. I haven't ever calculated this, so I don't know, but that might help with some of those quick changes. Either way, they are all very impressive, as is this video. Good work :)
thank you, i did think about this but i thought that they would skip 10 sec. or so so it wouldn‘t make a big difference
@@dikratproductions9657 I don't think it really does, thinking back on it, I think I looked at this at one point and it didn't really matter
I like how they’re ordered based on time rather than how impressive they are so that the second to last one is actually kind of impressive but the last one he just puts on a hat
If TCB were included, i have to give it up for Brian Rosenthal quick changing between 6 different characters at once in Solve It Squad
i think jamie had less time for the chorn change because i think she helped control the snarl puppet
she could’ve changed before she started to control the puppet but i doubt it because it would’ve been way easier to control it w the regular chorn costume than the alien one
i thought so too but if you look closely you see it's Brian and Robert holding the claws and Lauren holding the head
Dikrat Productions i just rewatched it and i think what happens is jamie is holding the head and then lauren comes and takes over when they sing “light that flame” because you can see before they sing that the person holding the head has a brown dress over the skirt and then you see lauren come on stage when they sing “light that flame” and she doesn’t have the brown dress over her skirt and doesn’t wear a brown dress in the show
@@AlexTheCrayChick well then it's even more impressing
If you look at the IMDB for Trail to Oregon Joey Richter is listed as McDoon/Everyone else
as it should be
TGWDLM might as well be called "Quick Change, the Musical"
Tyler from Cedric to McGonagall everything ends to back to hogwarts
So I was in a production of Gypsy a year and a half ago, and I was Dainty June. Only really in act 1, but whoever wrote the show decided to put 4 quick changes for my character into the less than a half-hour I was on stage. From the moment I went backstage I didn't go back downstairs (the theater used to be a house so the dressing rooms are in the basement) until intermission. It was a frantic throwing off of one dress to pull on another and attempting not to tear my wig off of my head. Ugh, and changing from character shoes to slippers to tap shoes is N O T fun!
I had a pretty stressful quick change when was in the Little Mermaid in high school, In one scene I was a sailor steering a ship, and in the next I was a fish in King Triton’s court, so I had to keep pace with the boat moving offstage then run to where I had my fish costume stashed, then I had to take off my poofy sailor shirt and pants and switch to tights and something that looked kinda like a Greek helmet without the hair stuff on top, then I had to get someone to zip up my back and wait for my cue, this happened during a 1-2 minute conversation between Ariel Flounder and Scuttle. And I couldn’t wear the tights under my sailor costume because it had frilly fin things on my arms and legs that we didn’t want to damage because we rented most of the costumes

I cant believe you forgot Joey!
@@neera3167 Oh shoot! How could I forget? Thank you Neera.
And introducing...JOEY
It's Joey's quick changes in The Trail to Oregon... end of story.
I never even realized how fast the costume changes were in TGWDLM! Also Richter's shift from citizen to McDoon is impressive as heck.
as someone who has been in musical theater if you have a quick change and multiple clothing items itll be like a pit stop in the dressing room with people running all over and just throwing stuff off and on you lol
The first two times I watched Trail to Oregon, I was always so impressed with Joey's general store guy to McDoon cause I never realized he switched shirts before he walks to the back of the stage and starts clapping
I thought he changed shirts in like .2 seconds
You forgot when, in tto, Joey goes from general store guy to an OXE LIKE ME in less than a second
watch the second quick change video i made 🤫
my favorite quick change was when my character said “i need to change..... i mean LITERALLY.... i mean EVERYTHING.” and i had to RUN offstage and change from a zipped dress, cardigan, and heels to pants w/ a belt, a shirt, a different cardigan, and new shoes AND take my hair out of a bun and do some twists in it and grab a purse to be rifling through when i walked back on, all during a veeeerry short scene. we didn’t have a very big crew but luckily one of my co-actors realized the struggle and would come all the way from the other side of the stage to help me out
Joey had so many quick changes in TTO that it’s just hilarious. His role is literally “everyone else”
Flashbacks to hairspray and the guy playing Edna having like 10 seconds to change into a massive pink sparkly dress!! Oh, I love quick changes lol
As someone who had a 20 second quick change in my first show, I can definitely sympathize. This shit is next level hard
This was so good! Especially for your first video! Looking forward to more content soon!
thank you!!
For my play last year I had one minute to change from one dress with a skirt underneath it to another dress (and I had to do it twice)
It sucked so you really gotta appreciate the quick changes lol
I didn't even notice when Jamie left to change into Belle until you pointed it out. That's how good that song is (or how unobservant I am..)
The most insane costum change I ever witnessed in a show I was in was when is did a production of School of Rock. Two girls had to do a complete head to toe costume change in twenty five seconds
really thought “ox like me” was gonna be the last one but this list is so valid
Personal story here:
I played a raccoon once. I was a puppeteer!!! So I’d pop out from behind a tree in the middle of a stage. Coolest thing about the role: I’d always take care to make sure the raccoons appearance was magical. I’d stand still behind a tree for 6 minutes, trying hard not to show my face or body. The. When I popped out, no one knew where I came from when I was actually there the whole time!!
costume changes are the absolute bane of my existence, i respect these people so much
I remember a time when I had to change from a Cuban Waitress with curly hair, skirt, leotard and flowy off the shoulder shirt, to a long formal dress with high heels, hair up and pearls in 2 and a half minutes, entering with lights down. It was a great experience, but I hope I never do that again. I had to do that change at least 2 times. Being an extra can be tiring too 😂
wait, is this from Guys and Dolls? I had a very similar quick change from the havana scene, plus another from the guys and dolls song (blazer and skirt) to a scene as general cartwright (basically a marching band outfit + black skirt + weird hat that had to be pinned in place in my hair)
@@mylahobbit1815 Nope! But that sounds cool and stressing!
I am simultaneously delighted and infuriated that you ranked putting on a hat as the most impressive quick change
and i get it, although it‘s not a ranking from least impressive to most impressive
But what about Joey's roll of quick changes between civilians in TTO's Indepence tho
This reminds me of when I did a professional performance of Miracle on 34th Street. At the beginning of the show, I was a normal citizen (it takes place in NY in December so a bulky coat) but had about 30 seconds to run to the opposite side of the stage while simultaneously changing into an elf for the parade. Although the elf costume was underneath my coat I still had to exchange the socks, shoes, and props.
And it was professional, so I had to do this in the opening number most nights of the week. I messed it up about once every 10 times, usually forgot something minor like the shoes or the prop that I didn't have enough time to grab.
But I got used to it, and it was pretty exhilarating.
*Fast Forwarded “Twisted” is like a whole new experience and I don’t think I’m ready for it*
All the ones in the solve it squad need an honourable mention
My favourite quickchanges I've ever helped with was when I did Shrek a few months ago
I helped the kid who played young Shrek/pig1 change, he had about 45 secinds to get completly changed costume wise, his Shrek cap (this weird thick baldcap that is essentially just a head with a facehole cut out, plus ears) and the green face makeup off, into his pink pig makeup, and given his suitcase for story of my life
We had 2 people, and the other girls job was to hold a light. He changed his clothes while I got rid of his makeup and took his cap off, then he grabbed his suitcase right before walking onstage
It was hell, and we only kinda messed it up once, but it wasn't our fault, the makeup team diddnt put enough latex so his face was still green and couldn't be peeled (easily) or wiped off.
The few times that happened, he would cross to the other side of the stage, while getting the last of it off, and entered right where the other pigs are. The audience never knew
Live theatre is fun!
I also did the Gaurd to duloc dancer quickchanges but it's much simpler
6:52
Honestly the impressive part is changing character that quickly like holy shit bro just went from “yeah you might die” to “I want to marry a child”
that last one still blows me away by how smooth it is
the hmb costume changes are insane!! they change in and out of full suits super fast
I find Joey’s change from citizen to mcdoon impressive, not only because it was fast, but because he completely changed personality immediately. From a super energetic character to a slow clapping mischievous one
I always assumed in Twisted act 1 finished after the song Twisted, and Act 2 began with Prince Achmed's soldiers turning up in the audience
the song twisted is actually like in the middle of act 2
@@dikratproductions9657 ahh cool. When does Act 1 end then?
after the song „Happy Ending“
Joey's quick changes in The Trail to Oregon impress me because he's able to change his personality so quickly.
This feels like playing the sims and fast forwarding through events
I patiently waited for OX LIKE ME
A+ commentary
thanks!!
i always love and am very impressed when costume changes happen onstage
Joey: *puts on a hat*
You: impressive 5 second quick change
That bread seller one has always been so impressive to me considering Robert had to wear his bread seller pants underneath his guard pants and he got on the new top, vest and hat, and made it all the way to the auditorium in time. I love Robert 😂 ❤️
Love the subtitles!!! I was cracking UPP!!
Jeez Jaime did that one where she changes from ensemble to Belle really fast jeez! And she had to make sure her hair wasn't messed up either.
Oh my God I had never noticed nothing of that, it's so amazing!!!! Thank you
wowww yo watching this, i didn't realise like half of these changes happening!!! so amazing. also props to the costume designers and creators. making these changes efficient truly is a show of skill for both designers and actors
so true!
As a theatre kid, I very much agree on all of these. I haven’t seen all the shows but yesss. Like 2:44 both seems like a very short and long time. I haven’t tried having to quick change but i have witnessed and also assisted someone in doing so and it’s not easy. You don’t only have to be quick you also have to be sure you got all the pieces, any makeup additions or changes, and props and that you don’t look like you rushed so you come out neat. It’s hard work really.
this video in a nutshell - *_'quickchangequickchangequickchange'_*
i cant be the only one who was terrified that they would change in time even though ive watched all these plays tons of times
Why is Ani such an underrated gem?
Robert is always so impressive I can't wait for the inevitable day he gets to Broadway. Also Darrin's in AVPS gets me very time, but that could just be the song.
Brian from The Solve It Squad. Literally, the second video can just be Brian from The Solve It Squad.
I mean the entirety of TGWDLM is just sooo freaking impressive when it comes to this. And they're not only changing costumes in that time, they are also switching characters! I mean it's just like..
Sooo hard to pull off. Broadway would just do it with big fucking cast but I find the way Starkid did it so much more intriguing, like half the fun of watching it is seeing them changing character at the drop of a hat.
Still, it must have been an absolute nightmare to figure out who could play whom because they actually have the opportunity/time to do a costumes change, but also are never on stage as the same time as one of their many other characters, and then always having the costumes and props lined up and ready at the appropriate places Backstage...
Honestly, I would pay big money to just see the whole thing from backstage once and see how the frick they do it.
This reminds me of Robert in What Do You Say just _sliding in_ outta nowhere and idk how that makes me laugh so much lmao
YES I’M READY FOR SOME QUALITY CONTENT I FEEL HYPED
Glorious!
If this video has taught me anything, it's that the second someone in a play changes even one article of clothing they are a different character and/or a character whose personality has changed drastically
Realizing that doing a high-school quick change (normal everyday outfit->tuxedo) in about 20 seconds, is pretty good.
part 2! (where i found a better way to comment on what is happening)
czcams.com/video/kwtgVxxSLt0/video.html
I had to do 20-second costume changes, running from one wing to the other, grabbing 3 laptops and placing them, and then getting ready to carry a bench that was taller than me. I have a newfound respect for actors who make quick changes, they are painful, stressful, and fast.
