As a finn I would say even though weather is bad about half of year I still wouldn´t want to live anywhere else. That´s how well everything just works here.
Of course everything is not perfect I mean we are still part of this world... And of course everyone is not happy all the time but we got better change to live happy free equal life than most countries. No matter is your parents rich or not.

This was in 2019 after Finland was declared the happiest country for the first time in 2018. But then Finland went on to be #1 in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022...
One thing I think has been understood wrong: The UN does not claim Finnish people to be the happiest. It is stating that Finland is the happiest country. Countries do not have emotions, therefore the happiness of a country is something else. Even the dictionary has another meaning for being happy - being advantageous.

Let's bare in mind that this is a very edited video focussing on a small group of people during a time most people might find unpleasant: When it's very cold. I don't think there could possibly be a single country in the world that's happiest as there's far too much complexity interfering with that for better and worse. Are we truly talking 'happiness' here or a lack of what makes someone UNhappy because there is a difference.

Life requires balance in my opinion and living in Finland you get alot of balance. Being down and grumpy in the winter makes summer just so much more enjoyable. You get a constant flow of good and bad. Living in a place where theres only one climate becomes monotone and that can get very depressive imo.

I strongly believe that Finland and the European welfare states in general are really good countries to live in, because we know that even if things could go badly, we know that we already have a support network from the state to rely on. General health care, social services, free education from elementary school to university. All this makes Finland an excellent place to live in my opinion, and I can honestly say that I would never want to live anywhere else. P.S. Winter, snow, cold and dark is not so terrible. It's very beautiful here in the winter and I personally enjoy the coolness much more than the warm.

The way I understand it, happiness is well... an emotion. And that makes it temporary in nature. You can be happy for... well lets say hours. You will eventually have to fall asleep and get a reset. And when you wake up you might become happy again... or not. Might actually feel sad instead. Or neither. And sometimes happiness is very short lived. Something good happens, but it gets instantly ruined by something, which makes you so much sadder than just that annoying thing happening by itself. Being content however, is something a bit more long term thing. You can be content, go to sleep and most likely wake up feeling content again.

Thysheen, it seems you do not have rhe whole picture of winter in Finlans.Nr1. There is no bad weather on bad choise of clothes. Nr2.. the homes usually havr central heating and temperatur is between 22-24 C around 73 F. So what am saying. We are warm inside, wearing t-shirts and we even might be without socks:) And we have appropiate clothing as we go outside. And when we go outside in winter time we do not stand doing nothing. No, we move- like walking, biking, skiing, iceskating etc. Just telling….

I've never been to Finland but if you compare New York and the middle and lower part of Sweden for example, I can't imagine the temperatures being that much of a difference in the winter time 🤔

NY is on the same line of latitude as South of Spain. Sure they get cold winters but not long, long hours of winter darkness in Finland, Summer is very hot in NY, far ahead of Finland and spring arrives earlier. Believe it or not, Alaska is on the same lines of latitude as UK, Netherlands, Finland, Sweden etc.

Alan Dean Foster, the famous American fantasy and science fiction writer who applied his writing talent to such hits as Star Wars and Star Trek, wrote a few words about Diana Ankudinova on his website.:
"Also, check out the youtube videos of the teenage Russian singer Diana Ankudinova. Her "Rechenka" is practically a mini-fantasy vid all by itself. Her vocal control is astonishing , her voice is powerful, and the timbre is unique. Closest analog I can think of is Yma Sumac."

There's several parts to happiness. Financial stability ie a roof over your head and all your bills being affordable. A job you enjoy. A strong social scene. Good relationships with your partner and family. And the freedom to enjoy your life ie a good work life balance.
All are challenging to achieve for different reasons. No country can guarantee all of these things. We have to prioritise the things which make us most happy.

You missed the point of the video and also the index. It's a badly translated and misleading title because it doesn't measure how happy the people are, it measures things like environment, absence of corruption, GDP per capita etc. Finland ranks high in all their measurements so naturally they rank high in this index, which again has nothing to do with happiness. For instance it doesn't measure how "good" the weather is because that's subjective, some (poor bastards) actually enjoy winter.

In this time of year it pretty decent to live here. Around 20 hour sun light and temperature have been last week or so 25-30c (I have no idea what it is in Fahrenheit). Unfortunately there are in my opinion completely misery about 9 or 10 months of the year with only a few good things like sauna (actually in Finland we have more saunas than car's).

Even as my both parents as Finnish, I lived for my first 8 years of my life elsewhere in the world in 4 different continents, and now over 10 years been in Finland. I can honestly say that Finns really are more depressing people comparef to the other countries I was in. It's just that the Finns don't know or understand the outside world, and think that life in Finland is fun. That's why I personally am willing to move out from Finland after im a completely free adult myself quite soon. But I sure gotta say that living in Finland is the most precious and beautiful thing any human could do, not the funnest though at all.
