    I think this 2A meant to be the current which can draw maximum at any conversion. So for an example 12 to 24 conversion if you set the input current to 2A, 12Vx2A=24W and the output will be 24W/24A - (loss of the conversion) = less than 1A. So I hope it works as they specified.

    • @BingoBongoMan
      @BingoBongoMan Před 3 lety +1

      "...24W/24A..." I guess you meant 24W/24V (Volt not Amp)! Other than this I think the same. Test failed by 12 to 24 with 1.5A but got kind of better with 1A and passed with 0.5A, so if you calculate the inefficiency or as you say loss of conversion something between 0.5A and 1A should be in the advertised 2A max. in this case.

    Just calculated for module 2Amp maximum for input ( actually is too much) and depends how many times increase voltage with same times divide current on output from 2Amp. But keep in spare Calculate 1.7A in inlet. If want from 5V to make 10V 2 times output current 1A . If want from 5V to make 20V 4times output current -0,4-0,45A Better find other modull :)

    Seller explained and I followed his instructions and it worked, if you've spun it the wrong way 20 times it can 50 or 60 turns the other way to get it right, once you hit the sweet spot they work great. Seller does mix up counter clockwise and clockwise in the image but good product.

    Nice video! I appreciate how you showed that the chip got hot with high load as well as when using a large input/output voltage difference. The MT3608 is quite a powerful little chip, but one needs to understand the limitations of these modules. I killed one myself when making a 9V rechargeable Li-ion battery and then fixed the module by replacing the chip. On my channel you can find the videos I made about that. Perhaps you like to watch those...

      If you need 5 volts, yes you can use 2AA batteries but you must connect them in series (+ of one to - of another and you will let with + and - to use.
      This can power small project with very little power. Also the quality of AA batteries very. Make sure you get good quality so they last longer.

    I had purchased five of these circuits. Hoping to convert 12 volts to 18 volts. With no load, I connected the input to a 12 volt battery observing correct polarity. Each one immediately snapped and smoked and did not function. Is there something I am not aware of about connecting these to a 12 volt battery?

    • @robojax
      @robojax  Před 6 lety +1

      This is what happend to me with other boost converter. Apparently for all boost converter, we should have some kind of load otherwise the voltage continuously increase and it burns when the voltage reaches above the limit.

    • @ansk
      @ansk Před 6 lety

      I've ordered this module and is yet to be delivered. Thank you for reporting.
      I guess the trimpot is the culprit here. It might be at its lowest output setting.. maybe for 5v or even 0v... and you were connecting it to 12v source.
      The input voltage has to be lesser than the output voltage for a DC boost module.. Can't be vice versa!
      Next time, try turning the trimpot screw anti-clockwise as much as you can before connecting to the battery.
      To be extra safe, try connecting it to a 3v coin battery (maybe CR2032) and read the output voltage before connecting it to a powerful battery. I'm fairly sure a coin battery doesn't have enough juice to kill this module.

    • @ringwood
      @ringwood Před 6 lety +1

      @@ansk thank you for that information. I had purchased some more of these and this time attach them to a variable power supply starting at zero. I slowly increase the voltage monitoring the output with a slight load. I was able to adjust the output and raise the input voltage to the 12 volts I wanted to use.

    • @ansk
      @ansk Před 6 lety

      Thanks for the reply. :)
      Took your advice and used a DC voltmeter (about 20mAH load) instead of a multimeter to read output voltage. Source were 2xAA used batteries with total voltage of 2.7v. The maximum output voltage I could get was only 26.9v! Maybe my module needs 3v min input for the rated 28v max output?!
      Anyways! My requirement is to power a 12v 10w (833mAH) LED from 2xAA NiMH 1.2v 2600mAH batteries.
      I hope the module does not heat up much.

    • @robojax

    Who else applied more than 6v to these out of the packet and popped them? Apparently there is a design fault as the Vref pin can't handle more than 6v and the modules are supplied set on minimum which applies the full voltage to this pin. To avoid this issue apply a maximum of 5v then setup the voltage you want (turn the pot ANTICLOCKWISE).

      it is all about power P, voltage V and Current I. Now P=V*I, input V=5V, I=1.5V, P=5*1.5 = 7.5W and using for output this P=I*V we can find I=P÷V, P=7W because0.5W is wasted as heat. V=27V, I=P÷V= 7÷27=0.259A so yes you can get 250mA. Now remember it is all about power.
