Thank you. I have recently purchased three converters from different places: Singapore, Georgia, Nevada but none worked. Your testing was appreciated.
You are welcome. I am glad you found it useful.
Appreciate the video for clear and concise presentation. I was looking for one of this and found it but wanted to know how well it works. You explain everything very well 🙏.
Thank you for sharing this video!
As we can see, you have tested 101 coil version (100uH) of this circuit, so the result you have got matches the LM2596 datasheet. I.e. for 5V output, it should deliver maximum 1.3 A at 37V input, see tables at page 20 in the datasheet!
This chip LM2596 is not suitable for large input/output adjustable power supply, read the aplication implementation theory, especially inductor selection part.
If someone already bought this module, as I did, he has to replace the coil according to his particular application. As an example, for 12V input and 5V 3A output, the inductor has to be 33uH rated at 3.5 Amps. So, the module will deliver 5V/3A and most important it will do that at more than 90% efficiency!

Thank you so much for you testing and posting this video. My girlfriend got this for me and they shipped two so i guess considering the failed test but the extra 2596 the sent.. Iguess it isn't too bad of a loss.
Anyway cheers from Missouri, USA
Thanks for doing useful tests... and yes. the 2596 can only reach max current rating when heat-sinked.
you are welcome. Yes people buy it like this expecting to work with rated current.

you can calibrate the voltage readings by holding the right button for 3 seconds, when it starts flashing adjust it up or down with the two buttons
Have not tested it.
Thank you very much for your nice explanation. I am going to use your words.
You are welcome.
Stop trusting people words and try it for your self for that part use a heat sink
Thanks for video mate. It is very useful. I watched bunch of your other videos all of them good and useful. Thanks for your hard work 🙌

Hi Robojax, in your opinion, is there a better converter (which does not get so hot) of that sort and if so which one?

pm me can you to install do sola paint of charger,
I just bought 2 LM2596 boards and they only have the 1 button on them to switch between in and out voltages. Is this a concern or possibly lesser or greater version of the one you are using in this clip ?
And yes, it is always good to research on the type of board and what it can handle. Thankyou Heaps for the insight.

Is it effective for 4.2v input and 2.4v output 2a
Hi. do you think this module can support input 12v to output 7.2v to charge my handheld vacuum cleaner?
Hi, we just know voltage and current. You should know the capacity of the battery and maximum charge amount . Then you find the right change module.
Hi, mine show a correct output on the multimiter but when i use/connect it to a device it drops to 3.5 v for some reason, I think it needs like a diode or something so the device current doesn't affect the "converter"
Hi, your load must need more current that this can handle so the voltage is dropped. try it on another load. for example test it on 1A load or 2A. if it doesn't work with 1A, then the module is bad.
sir good day can i used this lm2596 module.5v input to 12v output 3A.
My device is showing output like 5v but when I measure it.. it gives same voltage as an input 12v.. can i fix it somehow? Also the potenciometer has no effect.
Pushing the button will change the display voltage (input and output). Potentiometer is multi-turn. So turn it it at least 7 to 10 turn before you see affect.
Hi, what power supply model are you using? Do you mind sharing?
Hi, I have 3 power supplies and don't know which one. this is the best and cheap czcams.com/video/tQdUfy0uyUQ/video.html
Thanks for sharing this info! I have 8v in and i want 12v out but it wont let me increase the voltage.. Can this module increase voltage output or mine is broken?
this is Buck converter (step down) and you should always get lower voltage at output than input. Yes something is wrong with your module.
@@robojax Thanks! Can u sugest a step UP converter module plz?
Look for a ‘booster’ not a ‘buck’
@@robojax Everything is ok, he said he CAN'T turn the voltage up.

IF THE "OUT "VOLTAGE DOES NOT WORKS (DO NOT CHANGE) THEN DO THIS:
TURN THE DIAL COUNTER-CLOCKWISE AT LAST 10 TIMES AND IT WILL START WORKING AGAIN !
R u sure ? Cuz I have 3 and all of them don't work plz help
@@ACE-gf2tj That did work with mine, and I bought at last 10 of them !
Can this be used in circuits to charge a mobile phone by attaching a USB connector pin to the output?
Very dangerous as if the voltage increases the phone will die. But yes if you set correctly it will charge.
could you please suggest best setup down dc to dc buck converter input 24v 10amps output 12v 5 amps?
The output is 12V X 5A=60W so you need 60w converter . Here 250w czcams.com/video/ErqyxBvkdPk/video.html bu search my channel for 100W .
hi , how efficiency input 24v to output 5v and 3a ?
that is I believe I made the video. so you have to watch to get answer.
HI, The LCD displayed load simulator where to buy? What you call it?
Hi, it is shown in this video czcams.com/video/-kI7OtTHd18/video.html the link to purchase it is under the same video
When I am doing 12 volt input and set 3 volt on output but digital display is showing 5 volt ie whatever voltage I set it increases by 2 volt but checking with meter output voltage meter But it is showing correct only on digital display two volt is getting high how to solve the problem
It's stepdown and very effective The video is misleading
Why was the first display value off 2 tenth, later not?
If I connect a fluctuating input DC to this buck converter, will it damage it, bcos I want to connect it to a solar panel, and u know V from a solar panel do fluctuate depending on sunlight, thank u
this device outputs contestant voltage meaning if the input is fluctuating withing the range it will keep the output steady. Sure. but it will not boost it. for example if you set the ouput to 10V and input is between 11V to 20V it will work but if input goes to 9V, then the output will be below 9V.
Gracias por el video, ud considerable que se puede usar a 1,5A continuo? Y for aircraft model is the life or died.
Could an additional heat sink be added to help it cope with the excess heat?
Yes indeed it does.
@@robojax Thank you very much indeed
Hi there nice video , I want to reduce from 5v 2a to 4v . Do you think is safe or will warm up ?
Hi, I made this video exactly to answer those types of questions. I don't remember what value it was. So watch the video and you will get the answer. I have spent over 5 hours making this video.
Robojax I watched it 2 times , but the minimum voltage is 12 volt and you don’t say if it warm up ,
Sir, if the input volt is less than 12voltage does 5 voltage remain constant? For example:-9 volt 8 volt
Pliz reply sir.
Hello, yes it will keep stable until the input is below the desired output value.
Accidently i connect input voltage at output end ,now it gives same b8ktage but lcd shows some other result , what could be the fault.though not connected permanently ,just touch battery ending to output end
pm me can you to install do sola paint of charger,
Heat sinks are advisable if you push the amps to the max...
When they sell it with the title 3A, then it should work right out of the box. or they should say 1A or 1.5A. I am trying to show people not get fooled by the title of eBay or Amazon or AliExpress.
i pushed this under 5 volts, now its broken.
what part i have to replace ?
this is very bad design. if certain voltage harms a device, it shown not allow it. repairing would be so expensive, it better buy another one.
5,29€ already in Germany for the S version. Does "S" mean just blue circuit board?
pm me can you to install do sola paint of charger,
Can you suggest 12 v solar to 12 v battery kit
Hi, I have not used solar panel with charger. Sorry.
pm me can you to install do sola paint of charger.
Is the LM2596 not also a step-up converter? Why not tested this case?
I don't think so. I just tested mine (without display) and the output voltage drops at a difference of about 2V higher input than desired output. Also the data sheet says something along the lines of "the input voltage must be 1.5V higher than output voltage" although that's translated Chinese, so no guarantee. So it's rather a step-down module, not a step-up module.
If I have a 24V/10A power supply in to the LM2596, and I'm stepping it down to 12V/420mA for a DC pump, do you think it will still run as hot? I am worried that the LM2596 will always draw 10A as opposed to my pump drawing just what it needs. Thanks Robojax
The total input power of the module = (output power) + (losses as heat in the module). If you want to get 12V and 0.42A, then the total (input) power is= (12x0.42) + (losses in the module which is about 15%) = 12x0.42 + (0.42* 1.15) = 5.52W. From that you can find the input current = P÷V= 5.25÷ 24=0.23A so at input your will need 0.23A and to be safe assume it a little higher 0.3A would be sufficient. So the 10A you have got at input is just CAPABLE to provide 10A. The system will draw the current(A) amount that it only needs.
@@robojax So in that case it should be safe to run my 24V/10A PSU through it. I was thinking maybe I'd have to buy a lower amperage PSU but this is good to know. Thanks for your help! I enjoy your videos.
Yes it is safe. You can use 12V battery with 150A to turn on a small 12V 1A bulb. Only 1A will be drawn from the battery.
@@robojax Thank you, that's all very helpful!
I had a same module and i accidentally reverse the polarity of the wire in the input side, the diode burst up. And now trying to fix it if i can still use it. Hehe.. Any hint to find the short. Thank you.
most probably it is dead. This module has two portion. the regulator and the display. it seems both or one have been damaged. I just looked at datasheet for LM2596 in here www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/lm2596.pdf there is not mention of reverse polarity protection so you should think of getting another module I belive.
@@robojax thank you sir.
Update sir, good news, after replacing it with a "M7 diode" . The LCD display works again. I checked the regulator, i found out that there's no short so i tried putting the same diode. Maybe the diode protects it from reverse polarity. I always watching your videos about testing all kinds of module, it helps me to choose what is the best before buying it. :) thank you again sir.
I would like to use a CCTV camera as a dash cam. I need 9V 0.6A power to run the CCTV camera. Can I use this DC converter to do it?
Yes you can but this over kill. You can use a very small back converter.

So they're crap! Thanks for saving me $
Can this regulator step up 9v to 12v?
my friend this is called "buck" converter which means it is step down converter and it will reduce the voltage. The one you are look ing at is called Boost converter or Step up. I will change the tittle now and add Step Up converter.
If my Input is 9v 1Amp , can i get output of 9v 3 amp?
You have 9V x 1A=$9 and you want buy 9x3=$27 with of ice cream 🍦 . No never .
@@robojax that's rude 😔
What is your input current?
Is it the 1.95 @6:28?
Yes. mentioned at 6:15
nothing happen when i turn the w103 wheel....
Turn it 15 on Times
how to test a broken one?
if it doesn't' output anything, how would you test it? no way.
I don't know if you know it or not the reason why it's getting hot is because of the heatsink try that
I am reviewing it the it is sold. why buyer should attach anything else? The seller claims 3A and it should deliver 3A without attaching anything.
Well if you was paying attention does come with the heat sink because when I bought mine it came with the heatsink
So...not fit for purpose then.
It is just the claim is false with the current available module. If you add heat sink or fan, yes it would get better.
Step up or step down ؟؟؟؟
Its a buck converter, read the title. Also, did you even watch any of the video? He says it a 00:37....🙄
