I use both. I have an Aeron at the office and a Leap at home. For office settings where you're forced to sit in proper posture for continuous typing, the Aeron works quite well; but be warned, if you slouch sit on the edge or sides the Aeron is extremely uncomfortable due to the hard plastic frame. As for the Leap, I find it provides great support once you dial in the lumbar, seat, arms, and height properly. It's also more forgiving and comfortable if you sit on the edge, recline, or even cross you legs in a lounging manner. For that reason, I'm quite happy with buying the Leap over the Aeron. Another thing about the Aeron, be careful if you use the lumbar pillow against your back and recline; I've happened to snap mine in half! It's made of dense foam with no cross support. That's another thing to give the Steelcase Leap a one-up on.
I've also tried the Gesture, IMO its "active" lumbar support isn't as firm as the Aeron or Leap's even though in many other cases it feels more supportive to my legs.

Great comparison, those details about the more forgiving posture of the Leap are extremely helpful.

I've got a similar situation backwards; Steelcase Think at work and an Aeron at home. TL:DR - Steelcase wins the armrest flexibility wars, hands down. Herman Miller wins for materials quality, also hands down. Bought my Aeron for $250 used from Craigslist, threw away the lumbar baseball-bat, and it's now a swell place to sit for hours on end.
An Embody is in the mail as I type.

@@subscribeorsus6862 Haven't tried the Amia, Leap V2 or Gesture yet, but from the many consumer reviews I've read so far, among Steelcase fans, they always come back to the Leap.
I'm currently loving the Embody; it takes some doing to properly adjust, given that its lumbar support is comparatively slight compared to the Aeron. But having gotten used to the Embody, I find many other task chairs' efforts at lumbar support to be a little heavy-handed, at least for the curvature of my own spine. YMMV.

We have Leap chairs at work, and I have an Aeron at home. Both are good chairs. My personal preference is the Aeron because I like the mesh. I got my Aeron from an office liquidator for $400. It's made in 1995 and still looks like new. There's something to be said for quality like that.

The primary reason I like the Aeron over Leap is the shoulder area design. The Leap has a concave design that forces the shoulders to roll inward. This was a non-starter for me. The Aeron allows for you to put your shoulders in the proper, down and back position and still function at your keyboard. For me, a person focused on making his shoulders outwardly rotated, that makes the Aeron the clear winner.

@Arjun Thakkar. Thanks for this info. I’ve been sitting at a desk for 20 years and have noticed I have the problem you mentioned, shoulders rotating forward (and back hunching over) from sitting at a desk all day. I definitely need a chair that encourages good posture (shoulders back) not bad.

  • @danielpittswinegarden1837

Use both, but prefer my leather Leap for all day comfort. Aeron's mesh fabric does have an advantage on humid days. Both beat traditional task chairs. You sit on traditional task chairs. You sit in these high-end chairs (Aeron and Leap) and they move with you and are easily adjustable through the day. It makes a huge difference in comfort. Getting the right thigh support and lumbar support improves comfort by orders of magnitude. That is precisely what both the Aeron and Leap accomplish.

I sell both & personally I will take the leap any day. Also they missed 2 things about the leap. The arms do go up/down & in/out but they also slide forward & back. The other thing is the leap does come in 2 sizes. Its available in standard size which is the same as a size B in aeron then it also come in a Leap Plus which is wider & rated for 500lbs.

Thanks to the demonstrators for an LOL end to this video. Oh to be youthful and unconcerned with dumping my brittle bones on the floor.
From the comments section, there are fans of both. I used an Aeron chair for 10 years, before the movers destroyed it and I had insurance money for a new chair. I was single when I bought it, married when I replaced it with a Leap chair. Here was my experience:
I'm 6'6 with a bony butt and long legs. The Aeron worked great for me. My first was given to me by a friend who is fleshier and the front edge of the seat cut into the bottoms of his thighs, eventually causing severe pain. I never had that problem because my thighs aren't fleshy. What I really liked was that the fabric mesh didn't cause pressure points on my "sit bones" or coccyx (tail bone).
When we bought two chairs for two desks that occupy the same space, my partner who is 5'3 needed support for his feet. We considered a raised platform, but the furniture merchant suggested a footrest. The perfect answer was the foot ring from a drafting chair. He had a used chair and moved the footrest ring to the Leap. I find the Leap comfortable, but I do need to get up and stretch my butt bones after a couple of hours. What I like better about the Leap is the high back and headrest. There are aftermarket headrests for the Aeron, but at my height, they are still too low for neck support.

    • @yootoob4516
      @yootoob4516 Před 7 lety +2

If you, like my partner, are concerned about your feet reaching the floor when seated at your desk, may I offer the suggestion from his chiropractor: make sure your work surface is in correct relationship to the chair, then consider building a platform where your feet can rest. In his case, the ring from a drafting chair provided the perfect footrest, so a standard Steelcase Leap chair works perfectly. The ring came from a used chair and the merchant where we bought our office chairs installed it.

@@prodlandfuse5155 welp, a lot of ppl grab them for free when offices are closing down or liquifying their assets and throw away +1k $ chairs in trash or are selling very cheap. I paid full price for my leap, which was around 1k euros cuz in my country we don't really have craiglist and similar stores etc., and my friend who works abroad grabbed aeron for free from his workplace since they were closing it down and relocated elsewhere, to big companies these chairs are just numbers so they hardly want to pay extra and waste time to transfer them to different part of city or w.e.

no contest, the aeron destroys the leap. I own both and the aeron has better build quality and is much more comfortable. The leap cushion is really hard and the shape cuts circulation to the legs! the Aeron is literally the best chair you can get in this life, very comfortable and the quality is phenomenal and is worth every penny because it will last a life time while helping your posture and keeping your body healthy.

I used Aeron for about 10 years and then when moved to a new office have used a Leap for about 7 years. I actually prefer the Leap. For me the Aeron cut off the circulation on my legs after an hour or two. Maybe it just depends on the individual. Personally I wouldn't go back to the Aeron, although they look amazing and the build quality is great. I find the Leap to be in the same class of build quality and the comfort to be better.
