@@alexsweet8585 My favorite comment here! As I've been diving deep into performances by The Band in recent weeks the exact same thought crossed my mind. Thankful for CZcams among other sources for keeping the music of these two great groups alive.
💯💯💯💯🫶🏻Rip Levon, Rick, Richard, and Robbie! To quote Robbie ‘the song writer is the lowest man on the totem pole’. Guess Robbie worked hard to make sure that didn’t apply to him!
I can't listen to this version very often. My face is filled with tears now, but it's joy. Levon is one of my favorite people. He was everything and he was nothing. If fame hadn't found him, I imagine there would have been great music coming from somebody's screen porch somewhere in the countryside. Thank God he did leave us these recordings though.
Absolutely unbelievable talent. Gives me the chills. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, for those that was there, were in a great moment in history. I hope you never forget it.
This is from Bob Dylan’s 30th anniversary concert at Madison Square Garden. I was lucky enough to be at this show. My ticket was behind the stage- so we took a shot. Saw the whole show in a section set aside for Columbia records- 10 rows from the stage-and got to stay there for the whole show. One of my all time greatest concert memories!
Levon Helms shares his heart and soul with us when he sings. Danko too. It's a shame how bands like this fade. It's also a shame that Robbie never allowed the other members the credit they deserved. The discography and the catalog as a whole would be nothing without the entire group. It's their voices that made the band the band
I wouldn't be too hard on Robbie. Anyone who knows the band knows they are a freakishly talented collaborative effort. He just wrote most of the songs, which of course was vital to the band.
Consider this: we are lucky they got their act together to give us a small amount of great music. I am not trying to be contentious. Just suggesting the "glass half empty/full" might apply here.
I have been a real "the band" kick lately. What an incredible collection of musicians. If anyone was ever worthy of the title "The Band" they were certainly it. Over half of them gone now, the singers in the group, Richard, Rick and Levon.... but their music lives on, thankfully we still have Garth and Robbie.
Kevin. Turning 40 this year. Just dove in deep, and I'm a music lover 30 minutes from Port Dover. The Band is the band!. Amazing. Peace brother, hope the last 8 years has been awesome.
I love the Band. i don't think anyone played or sang with more passion then they did. Danko always appears to put everything he has out there. Same with Levon - I miss them. I'm glad Garth is still with us.
So few people that affected me more than Levon Helm . His Song writing , vocals and musicianship is unique and unequalled ..God rest my neighbor from Arkansas
Rick and Levon. Damn their voices are jivin' perfectly here!! Every last member of the band is a musical genius, I swear to God. I watch this video everyday
I was in college in the mid 70s into hard rock. I had a girlfriend an music from the big pink was her favorite record. Took me decades to understand that but now I do. Fantastic music!
A comparison, when George Harrison sang lead, and had John and Paul singing harmony behind him? That's what it must be like here. Robbie Robertson can also sing solid high harmonies.
Was lucky enough to attend this show. I had gone to see Clapton/Harrison/Young/Petty/Dylan and several other acts , and the Band being on the bill wasn't really on my radar (in part because I knew Robertson wasn't with them anymore). And this performance blew me away and was my favorite of the show's (along with Harrison's 'Absolutely Sweet Marie', Clapton's 'Don't Look Twice' and Petty's 'Rainy Day Woman'). RIP Levon & Rick...
To hear Eric Clapton say the album Music from Big Pink changed his life is priceless. I m 70. I was at Watkins Glen and will never forget the moment. Etched in my mind forever. I listen to the band every week, and I long for the era of love and peace.❤☮️
Another thought....I have watched this video and played this song so much; Back-ups on Back-ups! The Band being one of the great backup bands and having Booker T and the MGs backing them up on stage (Duck Dunn/ SteverCropper/ Booker T. Just Great!! DD
I was a freshman and 14, when the kid's mom who I carpooled with was playing Dylan. First time I had heard him. A few weeks later, on Pay Per View I saw that they were going to have the 30th Annv. Concert, convinced my parents to order it and I got to see/listen all of this.

All this Robbie hatred is so unjustified. You see comments like "Robbie would be nothing without Levon and Rick" (not I think here but on plenty of Band videos). Well probably yes if you accept that Levon and Rick would be nothing without Robbie - the whole point of a band is that it's more than the sum of its parts. I never heard Robbie say or write a bad word about the others and the first thing he did at HoF induction was to thank them. A musician with an ego - whatever next!
I just watched one of the best interviews with Eric Clapton I have ever seen. He tells the story about the first time he ever heard the Big Pink. Its really a great story so I dont want to give any more away, but if you get a chance to watch it - do so. :-) Miss these guys a bunch.

I’m 71. I still play the Jericho album about once a month. I got old, but the music never did 😊
Me too and I’m 70.
But it's been a grand party!
it is hard to see the ones who will become immortal. isn't it? sitting next to them in class...
Am 56 and you are never too old for The Band
The Band is, by far, the most underrated band of all-time.
The only other band even remotely in the discussion for that title is Little Feat.
Not in my house they aren't.
Underrated by whom?
ABSOLUTELY!!!!

Levon is amazing, but can we also admit that Rick deserves more respect than he gets? Those two were so bright together.
Rick was one of the best vocalists that we’ve ever known. Him and Levon were a match made in heaven. Those harmonies were magical

There ll never be such vocal combination like Levon and Rick. And don t forget poor Richard.
Love how Levon plays the mandolin like it might explode at any moment.
Those ones with the round back are kinda like trying to play a watermelon.
My first Grateful Dead concert had The Band as the opening act.... It was an honor to hear them.😔😔😔
