Live from the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Ringing in the New Year 31/12/23. Special guests include founding members Willie Watson and Critter Fuqua.
This is one of the great American tunes, and this performance is spectacular. You can tell how important this song was to each and every one of them. Great to see Crit and Willie on the stage with their old band mates. I think Richard, Rick and Levon would’ve enjoyed seeing this.
If anyone ever underestimated the songcraft credentials of the late ,great ,brilliant Robbie Robertson , any lingering doubt has been put to bed by the totally incomparable ' The Weight ' tune which was written in 1967/8 and remains to this day in 2024 a popular music all time classic . In my opinion Robbie was right up there with the very best of them as far as songwriting is concerned . I read recently that Mr Dylan himself was amazed at the quality of 'The Weight ' when he first heard it when The Band and he worked together in Woodstock NY .That's a definitive appraisal in my book ...coming from the greatest of the Rock era .
Wow. All of you are amazing as is your rendition of this classic anthem of a great song by The Band. The Weight has survived generations and will continue to make glad of anyone who loves a good song in generations to come. Thank you. Thank you for honoring Thr Band. Levon, Robbie, gone now. But never forgotten as you live on in this song every time someone hears it. Much love, much much gratitude. To everybody who has ever performed this song!
Watched Nitty Gritty Dirt Band cover this in 2012 to honor Levon’s passing, everyone was on their feet singing and crying, my oldest son was with us and Nitty Gritty and The Band are two of his favorites, his blue eyes were red ❤
It might be silly to ask, "What's the greatest song ever written?" But if one were forced to ask such a question, "The Weight" is as good an answer as any.
“I pulled into Nazareth”…Nazareth, PA…Robbie needed a place for the song he was writing. He looked at his guitar which was branded Martin, Nazareth, PA on the headstock…now you know…
Yeah imagine this…they went right into “I saw the Light” after this. It was amazing! I was hoping for “Will the circle be unbroken” but they always know how to keep you guessing!
The band, in my opinion, is the greatest band of all time, hands-down. And they did them a lot of justice with this.
A great song has to be appreciated. Don't try to make it better at the risk of making it different. KEEP IT GREAT!! THE WAY GOD MADE IT!!
I am so glad I got to see The Band in '74 with Bob Dylan. Best show ever. Old Crow Medicine Show pays them a great, great tribute ✌🏻❤️🌼
Levon did this song the best. RIP LEVON HELMS AND ROBBIE ROBERTSON
@@lawrencemay8671 R.I.P. Levon, Robby, Rick, and Richard. The only one left is Garth. 😞
Levon Helm would be proud!
Is proud! 🫡
as would the other members of the group
Possibly the greatest song ever written. So much fun to play, so much fun to listen to. Everybody loves this song. Greatness only!
It's a damn shame that such awesomeness doesn't have millions of views.
1/4 there
I used to smoke with Danko
He was a great soul
Cool guy
Wow, Molly was looking great and playing great.
Molly is like Linda Ronstadt. She just shows up and rips
They look like they are just enjoying the hell out of performing this song. Their enthusiasm is so infectious.
Molly looks adorable
Always does

Um pretty sure they didnt write this song the band did!!
Well, Americanadian . . . Robbie was technically the writer.
@@allmostbrothersI think that’s why he said Richard Rick and Levon would have enjoyed it

Thes e songs must carry on, to each generation, Robbie wrote
Folklore that feels good.
I didn't know that I needed that, but I did. Thank you!

I can't believe how good all these musicians are in this video.Brilliant.
I worked for Levon and the Cate Brothers in 1980 and 81. Listened to this song every night! Never grew tired of listening 🎶
Willie makes it complete
I'm sure the boys would be proud of this.
Best thing The Band ever done, period. Full stop!
Idk the night they drove ole Dixie down cripple Creek yea great songs from that bunch of fellows
It makes me happy to know that Molly and Ketch are an item ❤

Wow. Just wow. I think that's the best cover performance of that song I've ever heard. Love it.
They did something very few bands can do: they did justice to the song.
“I pulled into Nazareth”…Nazareth, PA…Robbie needed a place for the song he was writing. He looked at his guitar which was branded Martin, Nazareth, PA on the headstock…now you know…
I hope you're telling the truth or I'll be really sad. Thats a great origin story.
@@jonnygranville281 It’s true. Robbie did an interview and told the story.
If you don’t know this you don’t know Americana music
Robbie also said he got the name for Fanny from the owner of a bookshop he liked to frequent.
@@lanewallace9083 Didn’t know that.
This is the stuff I run on…keeping the faith ✊🏼
Willie Watson!!
Dude on drums hits hard
Top 10 greatest song of all time.
The guy who sang the second verse he has such a unique voice!
Willie Watson, not longer a member of the band unfortunately, but a founding member who made a guest appearance, very unique and very good.
That looks like Sami Braman in the blue jump suit and playing fiddle. Love the Onlies!
Very nice tribute to Levon and The Band.
Wow! What a group of extremely talented musicians, singers and harmonizers. 😇
Excellent
I love this song so much. This rendition is just off-the-charts wonderful 👏

Best cover ever!!
I miss Willie in the band so much.
So awesome seeing him up there with them....he was a staple to the original OCMS
Me too
I sang this to my kids at bedtime...as good as any lullaby! Maybe better.
Wow!
I have never seen a more impeccably dressed ensemble.
Yeah imagine this…they went right into “I saw the Light” after this. It was amazing! I was hoping for “Will the circle be unbroken” but they always know how to keep you guessing!
We were there the night before - they rock!!
Loved them !
Oh beautiful.......
Great rendition
So glad he's back with ya yall love yall ❤
Great job yall
OCMS are the best. Love it!
Why on earth did they not let "Molly Tuttle" do a solo????
Bcz men suck.
Not the right time for one I suspect
Maybe she didn't want to.
All the focus would have gone right to her
Maybe she didn't rehearse it.
EXCELLANT!
“Excellent.”
No Ragrats
Sami Braman!
Nailed it!!!
OCMS died when Willie left.
Late great. He is still alive.
Unfortunately Robbie passed in August. Only Garth left from the Band.
Almost as Good as THE BAND!! Cheers JJ
Got dammed good music.....
🎉❤
Molly looks great Bald.
❤🔥
I was there!
👌👌👌😎
Awesome !
I think Molly missed the callout at the beginning and someone had to go and get her, culminating in Ketch's very _subtle_ nod at 2:06
Greatr
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Id love to hear them do the day they drove ole dixie down nowbim gonna have to look.....
“Too many cooks, spoils the broth”
Never could figure out what this song was about .
If you Google it, there are some good articles explaining it.
Fanny Wil....lis brought me here
I didn’t know Ed Helms grew his hair and beard long, and plays the accordion.
Dangit
The guy who sang rick’s verse looks so much like Garth
The Weight is the official song of when you get 20+ musicians together and you just let them go and make some great music
Fiddles in the back please
Is that Molly Tuttle in the green dress?
awesome
Isn't this the Time Traveling Lumberjacks of the Confederacy?
Too bad Molly didn’t get to solo vocally or on guitar.
True, however, she does get her moments throughout the rest of the gig both vocally and on guitar, and even on the banjo as well.
Who's the gal in green? Great cheekbones.
WAIT A MINUTE CHESTER
JMO. . . Too many cooks.
👍👏👍👏👍👏👍👏✌️❤️
Old crow died as a band when Willie left.
That's not true you just quit caring about there work after that.
Ketch definitely doesn’t speak in that folksy southern accent irl.
