  • A friend recently bought this OBED Baseline All-road bike. They were nice enough to let me do the unboxing on camera, so we could all see what the experience is like, and what to expect if you buy an OBED.

That blue color is KILLER. Oh man.

This frame looks very similar to the Carbonda 696. I know OBDED uses the 696 mold for their boundary gravel frame. I have the 696 and love it, bought it directly from Carbonda pre pandemic. Love the color of the baseline, what do you think the max tire size is?

OBED claims 38C as the max, and I'm inclined to agree with them because of the clearance on the fork. You could probably run a much larger tire in the back if you wanted.
It wouldn't surprise me if OBED is using open mold / 3rd party frames. I've seen some claims that they are. It could be the Flybike frame that Carbonda uses for the 696 with a BB86 instead of BSA. Flybike makes both variants. I thought about mentioning some of that, but it felt potentially pejorative, and I don't think that it is necessarily a bad thing.

I know this is a bit old, but Carbonda states the max tire size is 700x50c.

What does the Di2 designation mean? I see there are two versions of each spec for this bike, the Di2 and the non-Di2. The Di2 looks to be significantly more expensive.

Di2 is Shimano's name for electronic groupsets. The one that doesn't have the Di2 designation is mechanical shifting.

Did you end up getting a test ride on this? Any thoughts?

I did not. It's way too small for me to ride, so would be hard to do it justice. FWIW, the owner absolutely loves the bike.
