    This is my "go to lens" to mount on my A6000 for underwater photography.
    Fun fact: If you put it on a full frame (A7 series) camera and shoot at full frame, you can still use it as approximately 11-16mm zoom without significant vignetting.

  • @geirjohannesen667
    @geirjohannesen667 Před 4 lety +37

    I’m on my third 10-18. I sold the first one to get the Zeiss Touit 12mm, but found that the AF hunted and it wasn’t that much sharper, so I sold it and got another 10-18. Then I was tempted to go FF and sold number two. Then I went back to APS-C and got my third 10-18. I think I will keep this, unless Sony release a 10-18mm f/2.8 to go with the 16-55mm.

    • @andrewfreeman88

      @VGScreens Před 4 lety +4

      Oh man, we deserve a faster 10-18 by now - I've kinda been waiting for years, but always find something else to spend my money on rather than compromise on F4. That's the only thing holding me back at the moment, I like night shooting, but I really want an ultra wide. They probably have one already designed but it'd cost like $1600, lol. Meh, maybe I'll just get the current 10-18, that way as soon as I buy it they'll finally realease an updated ultra wide, you can thank me later.

    • @NathanElcoate
      @NathanElcoate Před 4 lety

      @@VGScreens Same here I don't want to spend so much money on an F4. Did you get up getting one? I am also looking at 7Artisans but they are manual lenses.

    • @VGScreens
      @VGScreens Před 4 lety

      @@NathanElcoate I ended up picking up an as new Samyang 12mm f2 (manual) for like a 10th of the price of the 10-18, very happy with the performance and price. No stabilization, but for stills makes no difference (I'd rather freeze my subject with a faster lens than try to get OSS to assist with a slow shutter), and manual focus is easy this wide. The 10-18 is still on my radar, but I honestly couldn't justify more than $300-400 for it.

    • @NathanElcoate
      @NathanElcoate Před 4 lety +1

      @@VGScreens Thankyou very much I just bought a 2nd hand 7Artisans 12mm and will see how that goes. I am used to manual lenses as I had a 14mm Samyang and use vintage lenses so it's not that much of a biggie. If Sony can do a 10-18 F2.8 that would be amazing, but would probably require a bank mortgage to get one lol.

  • @rubbrdux
    @rubbrdux Před 4 lety +5

    Having decided to stick with Crop Sensor for the foreseeable future, I recently got both the 16-55 and the 70-350mm Sonys. Both are very, very nice apsc zooms. I've owned the Sigma 16mm for about 2 years (wonderfull but limited to 24mm equiv. on full frame) so I'm now considering adding one more lens to fill out the lens lineup. This 10-18 is the one I'm considering. Thanks for the timely review! It looks like a good choice. I should also note that I own the 18-105 Sony f4 (2nd lens I purchased) and have gotten great results from it as well, so the f4 of the 10-18 shouldn't be too limiting and, if needed, I have the 16-55 f2.8 and the Sigma 16 at f1.4 to cover lower light situations. I believe you are correct in saying there isn't an equivalent performance lens out there to the 10-18mm. Again, thanks for the review!

      I just bought the Sony 16-35mm, 70-350mm, and now the 10-18mm, so you and I have the same idea of a good lens lineup. I travel a lot so the smaller APS-C form factor works great for my hobby shooting.

    • @rubbrdux
      @rubbrdux Před 3 lety +1

      @@erikpallhansen I agree. For travel where I don't want to be really obvious with a camera, I've since purchased a slightly used RX100 VA Sony which is really very good and so small that most people don't realize you're shooting or even carrying a camera. Pocket-sized with a 1" sensor , a popup viewfinder and an equivalent 24-70 fairly fast lens, it covers a lot of situations yet is very unobtrusive. I have one further lens goal at some point. That's for the Sony 200-600mm, but that one may be awhile!

I was wondering what’s the problem if I bought the 20mm 1.8 (full frame compatibility) vs 10-18mm on the a6600 which has the aps-c sensor? I’m looking to shoot landscapes. Which would you recommend?
