    He did not even begin to answer the final question until a total of over 2 minutes and 3 seconds had elapsed... every time the clock is stopped the currently second is reset - time is added to the clock, but not in such a way that it is visibly added - essentially the current second is 'rounded' in favor of the chaser. After getting many questions wrong the chaser was allowed to play for an additional 3 full seconds. I think this would be an easy win for the contestants in court by simply having an expert analyses the footage with respect to the amount of time given to the chaser.

  • @dannyedgar5037
    @dannyedgar5037 Před 6 lety +4

    Without the technicality of the clock being reset at the second the time was stopped.
    Shaun’s was a catch. This can be distinguished by the fact that as soon as the chaser starts his set of questions, the timer immediately jumps down to 1:59, meaning that the second at 0:00 will have to account another full second, which shouldn’t really happen because that just makes it look as if he’s gotten away with winning when the time has really “ran out”
    With Paul’s though, you can see that it accounts a second from 2:00 to 1:59 which is how it should be done, but then at the end, the time goes down to the 0:00 and he is allowed to finish his answer. As soon as the 0:00 appeared, that should have been it. The contestants should have won it
    The timing is majorly flawed with the final chase in these videos

    • @c3po626
      @c3po626 Před 6 lety +1

      Despite your points you made, it's a rule of thumb in game shows, anything involving time clocks. If you start your response before the buzzer sounds off, even if you are still in the middle of answering it's counted as still being in time. Paul may have hesitated for a second but his answer was still before all 0's

    • @northaviation7952

    • @aidanmca4177
      @aidanmca4177 Před 4 lety

      But with the first chase if you watch when the timer gets to 4 seconds, pretty much a full second passes before the timer is stopped. Then, when it starts again, another full second passes before it turns to 3 seconds, granting him basically an extra second so it was also unfair

    • @thechasehighlights1988
      @thechasehighlights1988 Před 2 lety

      We don’t know for sure as the on-screen timer isn’t the one they use in the studio. There’s one on the wall that The Chasers can see, and I believe it is also checked by an adjudicator.

    Something dodgy about that first one. The contestant almost looks resigned to defeat already when the 4 seconds restart, as if he knows it has been set up for him to quickly shout the 2 answers. Then he doesn't even look dissapointed and his sarcastic reply almost seems as if he knows what's really going on.

      It was more than fair, rules in game shows involving clocks are. If you start your answer before the buzzer sounds off, it is counted as a valid response. Paul started his response before the klaxon went off and before the clock hit all zeroes, so not matter how you say it isn't fair. At the end Paul was in time with his answer even if he faltered for a split second the judges still counted it.

    The whole concept of the Final Chase is so flawed as to be farcical. Surely the final round of a quiz show should be a battle of knowledge and wits. This isn't any kind of battle; the contestants are almost completely at the mercy of the Chaser, and have to rely on hope & luck to win. Case in point: I saw one today where there were two contestants left. One of them was an amazing lady called Vicky, who answered almost every question correctly, and they ended up with 25. And yet, the Chaser still won fairly comfortably. It makes a mockery of the format.

    • @saltysee
      @saltysee Před 7 lety +9

      What do you mean they're at the mercy of the chaser? The contestants get at least a one step head start and have opportunities to push the chaser back, as well as the fact there's often more than one contestant in the final chase against just one chaser. Plus it's meant to be challenging otherwise the show would just hand out cash each show. Looking at the statistics of each chaser's wins, the contestants win around 1/4 of the time, that's not unreasonable for a show like this.

    • @RossGellar
      @RossGellar Před 7 lety +8

      Let's break this comment down coherently shall we;
      1- it is a battle of Knowledge and Wits... both sides are asked a series of general questions just as tough as the other group will be asked.
      2 - Rely on hope and luck? How may I ask? It's up to them to get as many questions correct in the first place to even be in the final let alone win.
      3- Your comment about the chaser winning comfortably, you do understand this is their job right? They are bound to have a slight edge on the knowledge side because they probably research and read everything and anything they can get their hands on, but then again, the contestants are given the chance to hit them back a question if they stumble, the pressure is on the chaser believe me.

    • @mikecreed22
      @mikecreed22 Před 7 lety +3

      Honestly the main thing that bothers me about The Chase is that everyone gets an equal share of the total money accumulated, which means shitty players who get lucky walk away with a far bigger cut than what they potentially put in (usually the low offer from the Chaser to maximise distance and chances to win/answer wrong safely). Irks me no end, but I always regarded the best chances to beat The Chaser in the Final Chase is to pass quickly if nobody answers immediately (time is precious) and obviously answer well...not guaranteed granted...but get at least 22 steps (how good this feat is depends on remaining players, 4 players hitting 22/23 is pretty simple but magical when 1 person alone does it) and you can potentially win. Labett, Wallace, Sinha and Heggarty all usually lack some modern culture knowledge and it's usually a good chance to push back, again not a guarantee as some modern culture is more pervasive but it is a common theme amongst them. Classical education will only get you so far sometimes.
      Love this fucking show.

      @@northaviation7952 I think he meant that the first name part of Paul's final answer is complete, though he didn't say the last name in time as the timer went zero. To be fair though, he caught the three with milisecond to spare, about 0.5 in my opinion despite the clock clicking down to zero. So I agree this wasn't fixed.
