- Super Mario Maker 2 added a lot of new features, one of these being brand new level themes. This includes, the ground, sky, underground, forest, underwater, ghost house, desert, airship, snow, and castle types. This also includes their night time versions and separate game versions. today I thought it'd be fun to rank all 90 different themes in mario maker 2 from best to worst.

I believe the themes with water physics are significantly better in Super Mario Bros. 3 than the other game styles, thanks to the addition of the Frog Suit.
He really doesn't like that item. He says that it is because he prefers being on land and the movement is admittedly bad there, but he is just ignoring the fact that that is not what the item is for. I wonder how he would feel if it only existed underwater

My favorite theme is the smb3 night airship. I love the blue look.
The only negative I have with it is that everything has low gravity but the player

yeah the low grav that excludes only me makes me focus too much on the enemies. it's really cool, but not good for a noob like me lol.

there's a lot of forest levels in smw and nsmb with pits as obstacles for instance, having water makes it impossible to do similar level design in the forest theme

YEs not if the entirety of the level has spikes at the bottom. I have a level like that, and it can not be cheesed.

I really hate How NsmbU have the stars background in almost every night theme, like the underground or castle, when should have the normal background because it's just so weird seeing the sky in these

I think they should darken the trees in NSMBU for night jungle, and darken the clouds in NSMBU Sky, instead of reusing the ground night background. I think they should add night themes in SM3DW. It'd also be nice if they’d remove the slip in snow night, as we can use Ice blocks. Instead of just stars, they should find a way to make all night themes fit in better, and the desert night theme in NSMBU style, they could just darken the background.
I pretty much agree, although the background on its own looks really nice it just doesn't really fit as a complete replacement of the regular bg, imo placing the stars behind the regular background to appear in the sky and toning them down a bit would make them fit a lot better and look nicer
I do like that they put stars, I think it looks nice, but we have night themes for NSMBU Jungle, and some more, I mean c'mon Nintendo, re-useage of bg? In my opinion, that’s just lazy...

Fun fact: Pow blocks can be used as lights in the underwater/ghost nighttime themes, allowing them to make the player less blind! Great for spooky levels!

The new background themes are my favorite features too! Volcano and beach are my #1 tool wish for DLC.
My 3 Hope's for DLC are volcano, beach, and mountain
(Although mario world desert is like mountain and that's why it's my favourite!)
Other than that I dont think that theres any need for any more themes now I'm just waiting for more game styles

@@mogcmasterofgc158 It's probably in other games, but in NSMB, NSMBW, and NSMBU the towers in the middle of the worlds have their own theme.
It's very similar to Castle, and I'm not sure how it will work in horizontal areas, but it would be nice to see it added, especially since it makes # of themes left for them to add (Volcano, Beach, Mountains, and Tower) even.

I thought I was the only one who hated loads of the semi solids in lots of styles. It’s a huge base of which game style I end up building in😂
To me, the SMB3 Forest theme is actually pretty cool. It's a very unique theme and you can use its ground in ways most other themes don't do very well. Only problem I have with it is it reuses SMB3's ground theme music.
6:36 If you played super mario bros. 3 you’ll know that most of the overworld levels use that theme besides the athletic theme.

This video is really good. I too wish that the smb3 underground floor was an orange colour, it looked much better and would make the theme less boring.
The edit king in the trailer it was orange. Not good for me.
Sky SM3DW is criminally underrated IMO. I love the jazzy music, toy aesthetic, and the entire feeling of having a new engine in the game just sells it for me.
Odyssey Central: I like the SM3DW sky theme, it’s really unique and is always a treat.

All of the underwater ones have to be corrected with the frog suit

I saw a few levels that use the underwater night theme pretty good.
The Idea of Ranking all the themes isn't really that good because in pretty much all cases it comes Down to the level creator but using the right theme At the right time can improve a level big time.
Underwater at night still deserved Last place.
The ground night theme can be nice if used right.
If one area is normal and the other is ground night it can be cool.
Ground night theme is more of a theme that should only be used in 1 area.
I think that the idea of ranking the themes is pretty dumb but I can understand your rankings.
I personally love SMB3 snow day, night theme and SMB3 Castle.
I am really suprised that you like the SM3DW Sky theme so much because no one I knew said that before.
I also really like it which is why I Made a level with it.
For my rankings I did it based on mostly things that the players can’t control, music, semisolids, looks, etc. I do think each theme can shine under the right creator but this list was more to show this stuff they can’t control :)

Number 9 was my favorite in my opinion because I love the music, even when its 43 seconds into the music. Iy gets really good at that part.

It would be awesome to get beach and volcano themes. On top of that I would love to have night themes for 3D world. Beach would be really fitting especially because there's plenty of enemies that fit the setting.

In my opinion, smb3 desert is great, it creates a great atmosphere for traditional levels, and you can even create awesome looking pyramids with semisolids.
You forgot the SM3DW night themes. You can actually get them using the new black hole glitch, but the night gimmicks are invisible, and best of all, they use the editor music instead of the day music or its night remixes.
Top 10 fav: favorite to least favorite
NSMBU winter theme. I love the music, background, semisolids, the ground, the snow on things, and i like how the pokey is snow and the spike balls are snowballs.

Your top 10 favorite themes are very similar to mine, and if the night time SMW snow theme didn't have slipperiness, I bet it would surpass the day time snow theme. At least it would be my favorite theme.
I would have rated SMW day time desert a lot higher. I love mountain themes and wanted them for SMM2, but this is a very close match, so it is amazing in my opinion. It also doubles as a decent desert especially with the music.
I kinda knew that the night time ghost house, underwater, and underground themes were going to be the worst. However, if you put on your thinking cap on that boosts your creativity massively, i am sure that people would reconsider the dark theme itself to the good rather than the bad.
umm, you CAN put the any type of water at its lowest and keep it that way. there's a setting for that.
Snow theme SMW music is really incredible,and also I love jow the songs plays
