  • Authors, most often, have to leave things out of their books. Author, Dennis R. Blanchard, discusses some things that were left on the cutting room floor from his book, Three Hundred Zeroes. Stories that don't make it into the final version of a book are not necessarily undesirable. Just as some movie outtakes can be more interesting, or humorous, than the final cut, there may be good reasons for leaving them out.
In the case of this book, there were several hundred more stories that had potential, but it would have necessitated creating a book that may have been two, or even, three volumes. In most cases, for this genre, that is just too much. The author has to determine what will work to make the composite story work well and this can mean leaving out potentially good material because it just doesn't work well with the whole story.
It is always a tough decision, and one that most authors agonize over; it's like trying to choose a favorite child.
Enjoy the video and check out Three Hundred Zeroes: Lessons of the Heart on the Appalachian Trail. If you're looking for a book about adventure, humor and inspiration, it may just fill the bill.
