Hey friends! We are smack dab in the middle of 3rd grade & I've realized that "The Good & The Beautiful" homeschool curriculum is just not the right curriculum for us!!! But I didn't panic...not completely lol...I made some calls, did some research and chose a new curriculum for 3rd grade called (CLE) or Christian Light Education!
Sometimes when your mama gut tells you something's not right...you just have to listen to it! Even if that means throwing everything out of wack for a bit in order to set things in the right direction.
We are soooooo loving this new curriculum that I wanted to do a video to share with you just how great it is!!
Join me today while I do a flip through of the CLE 3rd grade curriculum for the following subjects: Language Arts, Math, Bible & Reading!
Thanks for hanging out with me today! If you found this video helpful PLEASE give it a thumbs up! Also, if you're interested in a more in depth flip through of any particular subject...just leave me a comment below and let me know!
If you think CLE might be something you want to try, I'll leave the link below so you can check it out!

I did use a glue gun. I squirted glue in the bead and had the tip of the wire go through the bead but not so far that the wire was sticking out of the bead.
I even did a different color bead per subject to help my brain out that much more haha. But now I'm thinking I should have did it by grade 🤷‍♀️. Maybe I'll do that in the future. Lol

Everything you share is EXACTLY what we’re experiencing - we just want to get through it. Too many games & fluff just add to the “misery” of doing school 😂 I will have a 5th-grader next year, and he is needing something that is straight-forward, and CLE is exactly that! We did TGTB math for the last 3 years, and it IS a beautiful curriculum…but it takes us nearly an HOUR to get through Math every day. And Language Arts was next to nothing this year. Appreciate all this amazing info! It’s still making waves 3 years after you uploaded! 🎉
Question: Do you still use CLE all these years later? Still enjoy it?

We use a secular curriculum for our main curriculum, it’s a software based one. My kids love the abeka streaming videos (we watch them for Bible) and I wanted to get some workbooks that were Christian based. This reminds me of ace paces, but with a dash of Mennonite. I agree with you. The reasons I loved TGAB L/A initially, became the reasons I ended up disliking it when utilized. IMHO, It was a lot of extra stuff/time for a small amount of direct language arts learning in return. I realized for our family of three children, having a straight forward, to the point curriculum for L/A would be much more time efficient. (I do still love TGAB science since it’s family style). Your review is so helpful, I’m loving what I’m seeing from CLE. I especially like that L/A is separate from the reading for the extra attention to comprehension and contextual vocabulary. Will be ordering soon! Thanks!

I ended up doing Time4Learning and by the middle of the year, my daughter got bored with it. Too repetitive even though she was doing well. So we switched to a brainquest workbook and completed that. This year I'm doing the relaxed homeschool. Not exactly biblically based but I try to supplement with a daily devotional. We started off good but just can't seem to get into it. Then 2nd quarter between the holidays and my mom passing away...it's been a huge challenge to do much. CLE I think is the best curriculum out there! Plus it’s CHEAP! There will be things you will have to explain to your kids (or Google them yourself) as it’s written by Mennonites, such as old school farming tools LOL And all Bible verses are King James Version (but don’t let that deter you!!!). It’s a fabulous curriculum. Also, if you’re bringing your kids out of public schools, you should start with a grade back as CLE is advanced compared to public schools.

Hey Robyn! Yes, we have done social studies with CLE. We’re not doing it this year, but I’m kind of regretting that decision & I think we’ll pick it back up next yr. Just like the rest of CLE’s curriculum, it’s not as colorful as other curriculums, but it does come with a textbook that’s very colorful with pictures etc. comes with lightunits just like the other subjects. 😊 I would recommend it. Even tho we only used it for one yr, we enjoyed it & I think I’ll prob do it next yr for Parker. 😉

We only have 51 lessons left in TGTB old level 2 math and I see things in the CLE flip through you did he hasn’t quite learned yet. I’ve looked over the placement tests, I’m just nervous with placement because I think that was a small part of the problem with TGTB. He bombed the placement test even though he knew everything and so the first year he was placed in the wrong level and was bored! I should have trusted my gut!

There are always some new concepts with a new curriculum but we just took them as we came and got through it day by day. I didn’t see any major issues or anything that was significant at all. Hi! So I do make Parker do all the math. The only thing I have cut out completely are the speed drills in the back. But for us, Parker needs the repetition, so even something I feel he’s mastered, I still make him do it. I totally get what you’re saying about him being distracted LOL! Oh how I know. Parker is this way with every subject. I would recommend taking a min before each lesson & continue crossing off what you feel he’s mastered. Or…maybe break up math. Do 1/2 and then the other 1/2 after a different subject…just so it’s not all math for sooooo long!
One thing I found that works with Parker is I’ll set a timer for certain sections of math & if he can get it done by the time it goes off, I give him a reward. Something simple like 10 min outside on the trampoline or maybe a quick bike ride with me after school. Something I know he loves. He gets SUPER excited about this and it makes it a game & not so boring! If he doesn’t make the timer, he doesn’t get punished he just doesn’t get the reward. I know every child is so different so this may not do anything for yours but this works well for Parker. Maybe give it a try! 💗

Is CLE as advanced as Abeka?

Hi Kathy. That’s a tough question. Because it depends on what you consider “advanced.” I do feel that when I switched Parker over to CLE (because we did Abeka for two yrs)…I didn’t notice a difference in the level of challenge he experienced with the content. I would say they’re prob pretty similar. What I like about CLE tho, is there is zero prep work. It’s open book and go.😊
