I love that you stick with curriculum. That's what keeps me coming back to watch your reviews.
Glad you like them!
Love your curriculum reviews!!! Thanks for the LA Highschool notes!! Valuable 🎉❤
Agree 100% on having the solutions worked out in TGTB math levels above level 3! It would help so much with how many levels I’m teaching right now!
Thank you for sharing these!
Love this type of video! ❤ Can't wait to see what next year's choices will be! 🎉
Thank you so much for this information! I find myself stopping to take notes 😂 really appreciate this information
Love these follow up videos on curriculum, super helpful in planning our next semester!
I agree with your take on TGTB math 6. It works fantastic for my son and he loves it, but the answer key isn't really helpful in showing me how to arrive at the answer. I was so relieved when I saw Math 7 actually has solutions shown. So much more helpful.
Yes! I honestly wouldn’t use it if they hadn’t changed that!
ChatGPT has saved me in this area 😂
@@deedeeatkins543 GOOD GRAVY! I had no clue ChatGPT solved math problems! 🤯
We ran into this issue with Math 4 with my son as well. Dad is horrible with math and I’m decent. However, between the video lesson and myself he sometimes still struggles with the lesson and we will need to slow down before moving on. I found that finding CZcams videos with step by step instructions sometimes helps as well as extra worksheets from Teachers Pay Teachers.
I just have to say I’m so grateful I found your channel!! We just completed our first year of homeschooling and your videos have provided so much encouragement and wisdom this year!! ❤
Love that they included the solution for Math 7. So far, not having solutions for the younger grades hasn't been a problem for us. Thanks for sharing your hits and misses. I totally agree with consistency when it comes to using a curriculum. It's been a blessing in our homeschool having that consistency with a company we love and works so well with our family.
Totally agree!
Thank you so much for always giving your honest reviews on curriculum!! Shormann Pre- Algebra has been amazing and I’m so thankful for your recommendations!! 🎉
You are so welcome!
My 9th graders interest in history was important too. We all agreed on Biblioplan’s high school history and they loved it.
My son wants to learn French so I’m so happy that you talked about this because I was thinking about BJU
Absolutely my 9th grader helps my 6th grader with math when I can't! Love having older kids who are good at math lol!!! It's a blessing to this mama!
Yes!
Totally agree that math 6 (and also 5) need solutions!!! Momma doesn’t have a math brain and it’s been yearssssss! 😅
Will you be doing a video on your picks for next year? I love your videos. Truly a blessing!
Yes, soon!
You clarified some concerns for me…I wondered about the video quality and if they were very old and to a classroom. 😬
Just French! The rest are fantastic 💗
The good and the beautiful is AWESOME 👌 ❤
I admit I ask my older kids questions about my younger kids math too. I totally could have skipped this video but I do not like to miss anything. LOL We plan to use campfire curriculum units for electives next year for my youngest for middle school. She wants to do like different careers all year so we plan on doing 3: zoology, professional chef, and paleontology. Do you think 3 is too many to complete in a years time? I know they are like 12 lessons each. We tend to do electives on Fridays only but we will see when I print it.
I think 3 is doable. Though some of lessons make take two to complete!
My daughter took 3 years of ASL and LOVED IT!!! Hope your kiddos will too!
I hope so!
My son had a deaf teacher who taught his whole class the basics. My son loved it, too.
May I suggest that you say: “My tenth grader” or “Sixth grader” instead of, “My son” or “my daughter” because I find it much easier to follow! Thank you Ashlee these videos are so so helpful.
Thank you for the perspective on language arts. I have a 6th grader who is advanced and has been raised on TGATB. I have been wondering about college coming up for him and I will follow your path with him. Also, would love to hear about dual enrollment.
Video coming soon
Did you look into Apologia for science? My oldest is going into 7th next year and I'm trying to figure out her path for going into and during high school. And I'm looking between Apologia and BJU for science.
Hello! This is going to be first year homeschooling my kiddos (5th and 2nd grade)! We are going to be using TGTB and I’m so excited, I really appreciate all of the info you share and great advice! I was wondering if you have a discount code for TGTB that your followers get to use? I saw that they had a sale a few months back but we hadn’t made our final decision yet and that code no longer works. Just figured I would ask. Thanks for posting and sharing your homeschool journey with us!
No I’m sorry. They don’t often offer sale codes but 1x or 2x a year because the prices are so low! You can order through my link though and that helps them know where you heard about them and helps my channel! Good luck with your first year! 💗
How do handle all the grading with all the kids?
I feel like that's where i find myself overwhelmed. Teaching the 3 and trying to squeeze that in plus i need to regrade as well for one of them
For the hymn study, do you have the name? Also, have you heard of any good stuff for searching family history?
Thanks for sharing! Always nice with a recap at the end of the year 😊
Love and blessings from Johanne, Norway 🇳🇴
I started our homeschooling journey with TGTB for my oldest in kindergarten… I loved it until they revamped everything. Curious if you have opinions on their new curriculum vs their older editions. We did end up switching just because it was turning into such a pain point. I feel like the watered down their curriculum to cater to the pandemic homeschoolers.
I respectfully disagree. All revisions have improved the curriculum 💗
Would you recommend skipping the book studies altogether? or splitting them up over 8-11th grades? Thank you so much for all the info you provide! ❤
Was also curious about this
💚
From Adam to Us comes with/offers a LOT of components. Which did you do this year? Did you do the whole course in one year? It seems like a lot. Just wondering how you found it. I'm excited to do it with my boys who are 2.5 years/3 grades apart. When do you think would it work well?
It does offer ALOT! I bought both the student questions and activity books. I’d say the activity books are best for younger kids.
Student questions are a must for me.
We did not use the timeline, map books, or the project offerings.
We completed about 80% off the lessons, because I took some time to go through Tuttle twins as well.
Such an informative video! I have a daughter going into 8th. We did 2 TGTB science units this year and some ACE PACES. Do you think TGTB would be ok for 8th or do you feel the BJU earth science is essential for high school success in science? I know your youngest has done all the science, but if not, would you consider that for her at all in 8th?
Definitely can be used with the lesson extensions. Not all but most.
Thank you again for another informative video. My daughter is the same grade as your youngest. She’s going into 7th grade. I made a note for myself to have her do HS Language Arts TGTB for 8th grade (thanks for the tip!) 😊
Have your children used their Creative Writing elective? My daughter loves to write short stories, but I’m wondering if that would be too much Language Arts for her.
Yes currently using! Fantastic 💗
Does Shorman use Saxxon? Do his lessons go by Saxxon lessons?
I looked at the samples of BJU Chemistry. I assume there isn't an actual workbook besides the lab manual? Do you have your children answer the questions in the textbooks on paper or just take the online quizzes/test?
Answer all questions on paper. Those are graded!
@@GraceandGrit Thank you!
So a child who is pretty good at math but doesn’t like it and does NOT do well with a challenge should do ok with Shorman? I want my son to use it for pre algebra but I’m just worried it will be too hard for him. He’s used the good and the beautiful math since 3rd grade. Was hoping we could use 7 and then maybe he would be more ready for Shorman but he’s not liking the new math teacher for tgtb 7 :(
Was it overwhelming to do the literature of Notgrass alongside TGTB? We are currently using TGTB for language arts and wanting to switch to Notgrass. I’m debating the literature.
We didn’t find it to be. My kids managed switching books easily depending on the day and what was required.
Will u use TGTB Math high school levels with your youngest if they are available or do u think youll switch to Shorman?
Shormann
I know you have read a fair amount of the YWAM Christian Heroes books. Any you would recommend to read with an elementary crowd? I want to read them, but I don't want them to be too intense for my young ones.
No they are great! It’s always very mild. But the truth is important to share
Have you guys ever used MathUSee? What were your reviews if you’ve used?
Just curious. Of course I know you recommend TG&TB for lower and Shorman for upper. :) Thanks
We haven’t!
My son used MathUSee this year and last year- Algebra 1 and Geometry. We really liked it! The answer key does show how to solve the problems as well.
Do you think it would be an ok transition from Saxon 8/7 in 8th to Shorman Math in 9th?
Yes and they have placement tests to be sure
So it’s much better to do high school ELA 1 in 8th grade, high school 2 in 9th grade, and high school 3 in 10th grade to do dual enrollment in 11th and 12th right? I wonder how that will play out since they’re coming out with an official ELA 8th grade course.
That’s what I would do in hind sight had I known my kids would dual enroll. That’s just my personal opinion, not the advice of TGATB. I obviously haven’t seen their official La 8 yet since it’s not available so I may change my opinion after that.
@@GraceandGrit my kids aren’t there yet, but hopefully we’re still able to do it that way somehow, it makes more sense.😊
I am wondering if you did the good and the beautiful science and BJU press science?
Yes I say that in the video.
What do u think puts Notgrass above Beautiful Feet History?
BFB has a liberal undertone I do not agree with
@@GraceandGrit I didn't know about that. Thanks.
I've been exploring Shormann Algebra for my daughter. Curious as to how you put this on a transcript since it's integrated with geometry?
1.0 algebra
1.0 geometry once the other half is done in algebra 2
Do you spread the math out or would you list geometry and algebra 2 with credit in the same school term?
BJU is a hard French course if you have never had any French. I have university French courses. I think that they could have done better with it.
Will your son do HS 2 or just skip dince he is dual enrolled? Thx
Skip. No need.
Did your oldest daughter dual enroll for English in an online (college) course or did she go to a campus? I'm just curious as my oldest moves through high school. I am not excited about on campus right now.
Online 🙌🏻
I have a question when do you do the Spanish course? do you do it as a group or individual. I have a kindergarten (soon 1), a 4th (soon 5th), and a 6th (soon 7th). all girls hehe. 🙃
Individual. It’s meant for high school or upper middle school
So you suggest that I don’t start with my 7th yet? Or I do it only with her ?
My daughter totally did level 1 in 7th, and she is doing level 2 this year. She does like the level 1 teacher better. I think he was funny or something!
I purchased it for my advanced 7th grader and we found it unorganized without much review (compared to Abeka), BJU was a fraction of the cost of Abeka but ugh. Some days she would have to watch 5 videos, all different lengths and topics. Abeka was one video and reviewed constantly. I do think a 7th grader could do it though!
Why did u choose Bju press for Science over Apologia?
Because I liked BJU more. It’s also what I tried first and found it to be great so not changing.
I have all my older kids help with math 😆 its good practice on math skills for them to teach a younger sibling, right? 😉
Absolutely!!
Just curious if you’ve ever done the DIVE sciences?
No but they look great!
We are on year 2 and love them! Great science curriculum!
@@Graceful.Learning good to know thanks!!
Maybe for your youngest daughter you can skip Level 8 book studies and just go straight to high school 1
Yep, that’s what I’ll do!
