Longtime CLE user here. Mennonites are born again evangelical Christians, 🙂 so there shouldn't be worrisome theology in there. They just hold to a very literal obedience, as evidence of being a Jesus follower. Also, I think the pages are laid out in such a clutter free, plenty of white space, format, that the lessons aren't as long as you'd think. Although I've really struggled with the desire to do something that looks more "fun". There truly isn't much out there as solid as CLE!

Just here to support anyone supporting CLE! We have used their math 100-600, Bible 500-600, and LTR. Next year, my youngest is using the math, LA, and reading. My oldest will be using CLE American History. My mom is hooked on the readers for my sisters.

Had never heard of CLE before your videos. I ordered math and bible for all 4 of my boys and some of the HS electives for my older 2 boys. Now, I'm going to have to get LA too. I have been looking for a solid LA course for awhile and this looks great! Thanks for doing these flip through videos!

I am eagerly awaiting my MASSIVE CLE order from the Homeschool conference last week!!! Your videos were so influential in helping me pick which Units I wanted to start with. My oldest will do LA, Reading, and Math with CLE. My littlest guy is getting immersed in their Kinder and Reading Readiness programs. And my little 2nd grade struggling reader is going to stick with just their Learning to Read unit. And because CLE is so thorough, and she's already struggling, we're going to skip LA for her for a year and call it good. I have no worries about it bc I know when she is ready, CLE's LA program will be more than enough to fill in any gaps. Thank you for introducing me to this curriculum. I'm excited to work with it this coming year!

I was so excited to see you had a video on CLE LA finally! Definitely helped me solidify my choices for my kids for the upcoming year. We are going to use CLE for LA, Math, and Reading. We might eventually throw in their Bible but I am still unsure on that one. Super grateful for your videos!

@@JaiBeesCrochet for our family, we prefer the simplicity of CLE over TGTB. The price is comparable, and they are both solid curricula. I love CLE because my boys are not as exhausted from the lessons and I have much less teaching to do, even with the kindergarten and first grade levels. They advanced so much this last year that we will use CLE again next year. We switched to CLE language arts and reading from TGTB language arts. Hope this helps.
We used CLE language arts, reading, and math last year. Love them! So affordable, solid and simple. We're set to use them again next year. When the lessons run a little long, we just save the rest for the next day. Our boys are thriving with CLE!

We started BJU Press Writing and Grammar last year. It’s a solid program but my daughter and I really butt heads on the writing lessons. She doesn’t like the writing process. We’re going to do one more year, but if we have issues again I may try CLE Language for 4th grade. 🤷🏻♀️ Enjoy making all your curriculum decisions. Looking forward to your curriculum videos. ❤️

I am currently using level 2 for my son and 3 for my daughter. I will be continuing with CLE once they've completed those. I love this program and recommend it often.

This is phenomenal! I was looking online today, I saw a teachers guide, and then a separate one that was an answer key. Do you think that is needed, as the answers are in the teachers guide? I don’t want anything extra laying around! Thank you SO much!!

We love CLE. We used Language Arts 400s this year for my 4th grader alongside TGTB. It is so solid and thorough. TGTB was more of our 'reinforcement' program. It can be a lot to remember, so next year we are doing IEW's Writing with Fix-It Grammar, paired with TGTB. CLE'S LA 500s we will save for 6th grade. It is such challenging grammar and very advanced. I feel like my son needs a year of maturity before we jump back into it. Even saving 500s for 6th grade doesn't make me feel like we'd be behind in the least!
That’s a good plan! Yes I’ve heard that the higher levels are quite challenging but good. I’m looking forward to trying them out.

How do you use the TGTB to reinforce the CLE LA? I have the same plan just don't know how I wanna go about it yet. Haha
We are in the 8th grade level and the teacher's guide is totally different. The one you flipped through is so much better!

It totally depends on the child. I would say 30 min on average, but it always depends.

Yes! It really is….page number wise, people can get caught up in that, but it has lots of space for showing your work as well as explaining the lessons. It is so good!
This looks really good for when my daughter doesn't need pictures and color to motivate her. (She is very young for grade so sticking with TGATB for a few years followed by this may be perfect)

Would loooove a review on highschool English and Literature for CLE. We've been in Classical Conversations and are looking for a great English/ Literature program for highschool. Kids coming out of Challenge A and Challenge B (CC). L.o.v.e your reviews. Homeschooling is in its infancy in Australia and it's great to get in-depth reviews before paying international shipping.

I would LOVE your advice; I have done first language lessons and writing with ease with my kiddos from 1st grade up to now 3rd grade. I think it was gentle...gave a fantastic foundation of the basics...but IMO not very "fun", there were even some days I dreaded doing it with them. My oldest strongly dislikes it, second kiddo tolerates it but it is hard to keep her engaged, she's kinda a floating butterfly, daydreamer type
I love all of these ideas! You have it all compared so well with the pros and cons! I’m impressed!
So the three I gave experience with are TGTB, CLE, and Fix it. I have some love for all 3. TGTB covered so much, which was great! It was beautiful! And it was solid…it covered everything it needed to. I loved all of that but I did eventually get to the point where I missed the straightforwardness of CLE…no fluff. I’m glad we’ve done both honestly! So this year I have two doing CLE and my older 2 doing fix it. I think I would do CLE up until 4th or 5th grade to give that real solid foundation and then go to FIX it…I love the ease of fix it , but they’re learning so much even though the lessons are short. The lessons for CLE are definitely longer…and so are TGTB. So I don’t know…they all have their pros and their cons like you stated. I think it just depends on what you want for your kids this year. I don’t know if that helped at all! But let me know why you decide! ❤️

I have been waiting for your curriculum reveals. 😂 I am curious as to why you aren’t using TGTB anymore. I have been going back and forth with my upcoming first grader and kindergartener between ordering the new TGTB LA or CLE LA. We do currently use CLE math and I love it. I was set on going with CLE until they released the new TGTB, now I’m conflicted. 😅
I was honestly torn. TGTB is a solid and beautiful curriculum. One reason for switching my younger ones is just to make sure they have that solid foundation from CLE that my older ones started with. I really love that and they need it!
My older girls, I’m still deciding. The independence of CLE is very appealing especially after the difficult year we had. There are some subjects that I just don’t want them sitting around waiting for me for. But I’m still deciding. I’ll explain further once I make my final decisions! ❤️

I totally get that! I’ve done both and I real don’t think you can go wrong with either….BUT I think the quality of education our kids get with CLE puts it over the edge! ❤️

Hi! Do you remember if sentence diagramming started in the level? Or level 3? Also, is there a lot of cursive or would you consider it still beginner cursive?
I am Pentecostal and have never found anything doctrinal in the curriculum we have used. I have heard there is some pacifism in places here or there at upper levels, but I have not yet seen it.

Hi! Have you found with this language arts curriculum the writing portion is sufficient? Not just lower grades, but towards middle school as well? If you supplement, what do you use and at which level did you see the need?
I do think the writing portion is pretty light. I think it’s fine for the lower grades, but I would probably add extra writing. We are using Writeshop this year. It’s a huge learning curve but we are really enjoying it!

I think it’s good. It’s very traditional and straightforward. I like it.
Mennonite/Amish curricula is “plain” which is why there’s nothing fancy in it. Rod and staff is the same
Is CLE a full Language Arts Curriculum? Do I need a reading comprehension as well? My daughter is grade 7 but we work at the grade 6 level. Thank you.
Yes it’s a full Language Arts Curriculum! I always did CLE Reading or some other reading to help with comprehension.
I have tested my student who scored 115 in level 3 Language CLE. We have use ACE the last four years so we are on level 4 in that. Now, he passed the third level to go to the 4th level CLE, and he is so close in Language. Since you have experienced this, would it be best to put him in level 3 or since the 115 result was only 3 less than to pass to 4th level, that I go ahead and stretch to put him in 4th? He has been doing well, except in the 4th grade Abeka reading we have used.
In my opinion, I would put him in 4th. I had to do that last year with one of mine bc we were coming from a different curriculum to CLE, so there were a few gaps, but it was close enough that I knew I could teach the things that the child didn't know and they would catch on and be just fine!

We haven't used any CLE past junior high.
how does it work using this for the first time in grade 6? He did the diagnostic test and did good except for sentence diagrams....he has never learned that.
If he did well on the placement test I would think he would be fine…you just might want to take some time to teach sentence diagramming. They do have a really helpful booklet for sentence diagramming on CLE’s website!
@@ourthriftyhomeschool oh darn. My order already shipped. I went ahead and put him in grade 5....eventhough I think he would have been fine in 6....other than the sentence diagrams....which I never learned how to do myself. Not once have I needed to diagram a sentence in my life.
My child is autistic and I'm really considering CLE - my kiddo gets distracted or upset if there is a lot of extra stuff.
This might be a great fit then, bc the pages are plain and simple. Nothing flashy or distracting.

My 7 year old can’t read yet. If I got her level 1, I’m assuming I’d still have to teach most of the lesson. Does it still teach reading at that level?
Level 1 (grade 1) Language starts later into starting Learning auto Read and reinforces the phonics and what not in the Language. I highly recommend the Learning to Read program and then using the Language with it and then once the Learning to read books are done we went into using the reading 1 books.
@@JaiBeesCrochet we’ve already done TGTB reading and I feel like we’re not moving ahead. I’m ready for a more grammar/structure centered lesson. Punctuation, sentences, etc.

I agree with @Amber Fencil! CLE Learning to Read goes so well hand in hand with Language and the Language curriculum for level 1 doesn’t start until halfway through the year. It’s such a wonderful foundation for reading!

How does this compare the ACE curriculum for language arts?
I've personally never used ACE, but I've heard that at least in the set up, like having little workbooks, they are similar. As for content, I don't know. I'm sorry I can't help more!

Yes. There are weekly spelling tests.
Is one lesson one day?
Yes, but I have heard that some people will split the lesson if it feels like too much.
