This is talking about a story written to describe two gays at the Republic of China era (from 1840 after the opium war to 1912), the anti-Japanese Period.
Qin Shu, the young master in the north, met Shui San’Er, the bandit leader in the south, because he was raped once.
Shui thought him was a girl so caught him and wanted to marry him. Qin rather die than marry a man.
Qin used marriage as a bargaining chip to get Shui to go to the revolution (to Japanese)with him. They experienced the Resistance Against Japan, the War of Liberation, and the Cultural Revolution together. They soon fell in love with each other.
In the end, because of discrimination of others, they were killed by the red guards using guns.
The red guards bend their kneels down, pointing them with guns, abusing their sexual orientation.
When they were gonna been killed, Qin shouted,”Shui, is the red lanterns hanging out looks like the #candles of wedding?”
Shui answered and cried as loud as possible,”Yes…Yes!!”
The red guards pushed their foreheads onto the ground, Qin shouted,”#Worship to heaven and earth!!”
Qin said,”Silly man, when you get to the# bridge of NaiHe, you must hold on to the #red line tight! Don’t let me get lost…”(傻蠻子，到了奈何橋邊，千萬把紅線拽住，別讓我走丟……）

I speculate mostly non-Chinese can't relate this channel's music to sorrow, regret or detachment. You just listen to it casually and think emm..uh nice sound, relaxing. I think that's rly good, you can enjoy it and it's not necessary to enjoy music in a fixed way. But plz notice some vids are strongly venting sufferings of life and grief(specifying this Guqin X Kunqu Opera vid), the sounds are no longer relaxing, then plz mind your words, or just try to perceive it in a different way, it might be telling a deeply painful desolate story.

its based on a song from an audio book. The book is about a gay relationship at the time of the cultural revolution. The two lovers managed to survive the second world war and all its horrors together in the army, but end up being killed by their own people for their relationship. pretty sad.

Kunqu: more melody and it is the oldest form of Chinese opera, its audience are mostly poets and royal family; Jingju(peking opera): less melody, more drama, and it is derivated from kunqu, only 200 more years old, and became popular among the folks

没有上次的牡丹亭好，镜头太近人物表现欲太强，反而音乐艺术性下降了，不过还是让人心旷神怡，如果镜头拉远一些，拍下艺术家的全身会更加突显音乐和昆剧的形体美。

It’s just so god damn strange for European ears. It hurts even maybe. But it’s interesting.
Why are the voices of the Italian opera singers so strange?
It's not about being strange or weird but more about being exotic in this case. Asking why the "beauty" or the art standards are differents is a little bit irrelevant, it's like asking why do English eat shit? It's all related to different cultures and history (well, even if English truly waste food).
Ps : I'm actually more used to Chinese operas than to some Western "singers" like Sia and I'm pretty sure that some old songs from Europe will be hell "strange" to your ears as well...
It's to invoque a mood more than to bedazzle. For example, baroque Opera is for grandeur, excitement, sometimes sadness, etc, but in a bedazzling way. This is to invoque a kind of mellow/sad/yet calming mood, but with much less bedazzlement of European singing styles. And our ears of course aren't tuned to this style. It's like getting used to the screams in metal and learning to enjoy them, if any of this makes sense
