    I have 3 beautiful German roses in this video for this time. Both of them have excellent disease resistance, very beautiful pink form, and delightful fragrance. They keep flowering very well in my climate. Hope you enjoy them. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend!

      Yes, well which one is which? I can't tell. Why don't you label them so we can tell? It's frustrating!

If you want to see the name tag of each rose, please watch again and will be shown just like “Scentuous-Tantau” at the bottom of the video frame.

    This spring 2023, i didnt have enough funds for DA roses but at my local big box retailer there were bins of bare root roses for 7 bucks. After going through like bin of hundreds them, i stumbled upon 7 scentious roses. I bought all i could find in that bin. Made a rose hedge out of them. Am i sure glad i stumbled upon them.

      @@smallbackyardfun right now theyre starting to bloom. But i keep on taking the buds off to encourage more root growth. But omgah the blooms are amazing! The cup shaped blooms, the lighter pink outside petals and then a glowing bright interior. Im in iowa z 5. And these are supoosed to be hardy to z 5. Im going to take great care of these in the winter. Like wraping them in burlap and a heavy mulching just to be sure.

      @@onetwocue watering with light dose of liquid fertilizer weekly (sea weed, fish emulsion, kelp) will encourage a lot of root development at the first year too, and you are right, please mulch and protect your roses in the winter for the first year, especially where the weather is harsh just like in Iowa. Good luck with your roses!

    I am happy to have found your beautiful video as I have just purchased Bliss Parfuma and Scentuous. I am wondering how much sun your roses receive during the day as my yard receives about 3-4 hours a day.

    • @smallbackyardfun
      @smallbackyardfun  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for stopping by, my Bliss Parfuma is in full sun (more than 7 hours) in the growing season, Scentuous is less sun exposure than Bliss Parfuma but still gets 6-7 hours per day.

    So beautiful! May I know the potting soil you're using for your roses and peonies? I tried growing two bare-root David Austin roses in containers early this year. One died, and the other seems stunted. I think my potting soil is too acidic. It also was not drying up quickly enough. Thank you so much 🌻

    • @smallbackyardfun
      @smallbackyardfun  Před rokem

      Thanks for your compliment, potting mix soil I use for roses is different with for peonies. So basically for roses I use 2 parts of compost, or top dressing garden soil, 1 part perlite, and 1 part peat moss, I also put 1 cup of worm casting in there, so as long as the mix is light and well-draining, so it is good, normally, I test it by myself by filling the mix in a container and watering, If the water drains quickly, so it is good enough. Sometimes I also use the potting mix soil from Miracle Gro and I add more perlite into this one, it is fine so far. For peonies I use the same rose mix, except peat moss (too acidic for peonies), instead of peat I add river sand, to increase the draining of the mix, and based on the season I add fertilizer or liquid fertilizer to make the plants to thrive. I also have a video to guide how I plant roses in pots/containers if you want to refer:

    Beautiful flowers! Thanks for sharing! May I ask how much sun do your Earth Angel roses get? I just bought a 3g pot. I'm East facing and only get 4 hours of morning sun. I'm bit worried, as most websites say they require 6 hours of full sun.

    • @smallbackyardfun
      @smallbackyardfun  Před rokem +1

      Thanks, so my Earth Angel gets sun from around 9.00 am until 4.00 pm in the main season, so it’s about 6-7 hours ish, but I have been successful with some roses just only 4 hours of direct sunlight, of course it depends on varieties to thrive in partial sun situations, so all I want to say, just give your Earth Angel a try in one year to see it is ok or not, if not you can move in next year to the better location. Gardening is about experimenting by yourself, sometimes it is right for someone, somewhere, but it is not in your garden, so just get the information as the reference, and do it on your own!

    Are your beautiful plants grafted or own root? Such an amazing video thank you. I’m having a hard time picking between earth angel or scentous to grow!

    • @smallbackyardfun
      @smallbackyardfun  Před rokem +1

      Some are grafted and the others are own root, depends on varieties, some roses are very weak on their own root, but growing well on the grafted root, Scentuous and Earth Angel is totally different regarding form, colour and fragrance, if I ever choose one I would pick Scentuous!

    Your roses are absolutely breathtaking!🥰 May I ask which zone you are in? Your roses looks so healthy!! 😍😍And how do you keep them from free black spots? Or do you just get disease resistant types?

    • @smallbackyardfun
      @smallbackyardfun  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for stopping by, I am in zone 7b-8a PNW, my area is known as worse region for black spots and the other diseases because of its high humidity and forest rains. I also have no spay garden, and also have some roses which are susceptible to black spot as well, my first priority is to keep the roses to be healthy as much as I can, so they can fight back the diseases whatsoever, secondly I avoid to water over the foliage or to water very late in the afternoon, thirdly I collect all the disease leaves either on the plants or on the ground, keep them clean and good air circulation. These are simple but not really easy to keep consistently throughout the season. If you worked hard enough I think you could limit the diseases even not spraying. Hope that helps!

      @@mee3973 haha, totally understanding lol, ‘love’ is always kind of agonizing ;), as my observation from my friends’s garden in your area, as long as you keep your roses in the ground, they are should be fine. May I ask where do you usually order the roses? As I know DA won’t be shipping to Canada in the coming year, I usually order from Palatine, DA, and Select roses in my area, rather than those, we don’t have a lot of choices in Canada.
