- Here is my long over due August summer rose garden update. We have an unusual really dry summer, so after thrips infestation I had to deal with so much of aphids. A couple of rose surprised me big time on its performance despite heat. Potted roses seem to struggle, etc. This is my attempt to give you an idea how a rose perform under heat and dry in my zone, what to expect performance wise when a rose is mature and also few roses performing really well despite being just a year old.

I am a Dental Assistant, a cat momma, and love gardening. I am close to Canada border and my climate experience would attest that my zone is dependent to what’s going on in Canada 😂, so My zone is more of 7b a lot of times than 8A. I specially love English romantic roses, English style of gardening, meaning balance clean structural gardening designs,
and of course houseplants! Drop me questions and I will share you my personal journey tips on growing them. Enjoy watching and don’t forget to subscribe. Have a great day folks!

Beautiful garden 😍. Very beautiful collection of roses 🌹
Welcome to our community , Thank you!
Wow what a beautiful garden and lovely story about the rose cuttings.
I believe your mystery yellow rose is called Korresia.
I know, hopefully people could still access them somewhere! My location is about 2 hours drive to Seattle. Thank you!
Your roses are so lovely, abundant, and healthy!!! Lots of buds!!! I'll rewatch the video re fertilizing :). Hope DA will offer Spirits of Freedom again or won't discontinue it. Can't wait for their 2024 Rose Catalog. And hope I can control myself lol. Thank you
Oh Melissa, I could sense your gardening passion. thank you for appreciating, I’m glad my channel could bring some joy and ideas. I am running out of space so i am not anxious about 2024 DA catalog, I got 40 to take care right now, it’s overwhelming at times.
Красиво❤❤❤
thank you
Oh I just love this! Would you recommend planting the Evelyn in a container? Thank you
I did my research on that, I found out, Evelyn doesn’t do very well in container. but I haven’t tried it myself, it does very well I. My climate and in the sheltered prime spot.
Hi! Your plants are beautiful. Where did you buy the Jorden earth angel?
I got mine as a small start from online ETSY seller called garden living if I’m not mistaken.
Your garden is just stunning, not only the roses, but everything, the way it's put together. New subscriber here, I love DA roses (along with many others!), my favorite is Brother Cadfael, which they just brought back & is already out of stock! I am crazy for lavender/violet roses, which DA does not have. My favorites there are Plum Perfect & Violet's Pride. Thank you for shareing Your beautiful garden, you give me inspiration!
Oh hey! I’ve been really looking for brother cadafel! I didn’t know Da brought it back. Thank you for appreciating and welcome to our little community, I’m a huge DA fan but you are right they don’t have lavander purplish roses, Violets pride and plum perfect are great looking ones,
@@IsshaGreenThumbing Thanks for getting back to me, I really appreciate channels that take the time to do that. Yes, Cadfael is back at DA & they are taking names to be notified when it's back in stock. I've been hunting for it & begging growers to get it back, hardly ever heard about it, but suddenly I'm finding some fans! And I've put it on evey wishlist I could find, constantly checked DA website, & there it was, shazaam! one day & I ordered 3 so fast it made my credit card spin!! I have one, in a pot, not very happy there but I don't have an in-ground garden---yet! I much prefer own-root roses, I mostly order from Heirloom (& grit my teeth at the prices, but their roses are crazy growers) but I wasn't going to let Cadfael get away from me again!
@@vintagelady1 Heirloom pricing is crazy expensive! I checked DA website, no luck for Cadafel. It’s on My wish list and they didn’t bother to notify me, Darn!
@@IsshaGreenThumbing Oh yeah, Heirloom is pricey but their roses are so big & healthy they almost explode into bloom (in the spring & summer, not now), and they are ALL own-root, which I really prefer. So I grit my teeth & pay the price. They do have sales so get on their email list. Cadfael sold out almost immediately at DA,, I don't think they notify from your wishlist, I think you have to do the "email me" list. As soon as I heard they'd brought him back, I called to see when, they said in September/October, so I got on the email me list AND I checked about 4 times a week (obsessed, much?) & ordered the instant I saw it available for pre-order. You might call to see if they'll be having more in the spring. He's available in Australia but not the U.K., and ONLY at DA here in the states. Strange & frustrating. In the meantime yoou might try Summer Romance---it's not as big but it looks abit like cadfael & smells wonderful.
@@vintagelady1 I’ve been checking out summer romance, thanks!
Wow! Can you do videos how to fertilize your roses?
I have one, video that talked about a kind of fish fertilizer. I used other ones but it’s the one that really makes them thrive and happy.
They’re all so pretty. Going to get me in trouble this coming spring. Added so many to my wish list. Is earth angel a shrub or climber ?
Hi Jess, thank you for appreciating. They definitely give so much beauty in my space. EA is a shrub but has the habit of throwing long canes in the warmer zones. In my space it does that in the fall and I just trim them down to maintain a rounded bush.
Love your garden! Beautiful how you mixed other perennials with your roses. What was that purple blooming plant next to Charles Darwin?
Purple toad flax also called Lineria. It’s a weed but I replanted them to spots where it will help highlight some roses.
Thank you so much and welcome to our community,
Your garden still looks gorgeous in August! And enhanced by that peaceful tall green hedge as back drop. Are those Italian cypress and how often do you trim them? I so wanted to grow them for privacy hedge bcz my metal fences are see-through. Everything is lovely and thriving in your garden!
I thought so too! The green backdrop has this nice highlight effect on roses, they are called arborvitae, they are wonderful for hedge. Thanks Melissa,
Thank you @@IsshaGreenThumbing
You have such healthy David Austin roses! Do you spray your roses? Also, what rose food/fertilizer do you use?
Thank you! No I don’t spray as I try to grow them organically, it is my wish to rely on more balance ecosystem in managing the foes. I use bone meal and organic home made fish fertilizer.
Do you have a spraying routine for your roses? They look perfect. Beautiful 😍
It’s a non spray garden. Thank you!
@@IsshaGreenThumbing that is simply amazing! What do you attribute to the health and vigor? Do you think it is the fish fertilizer you have commented on using? Do you get bad bugs (aphids, sawfly, etc)? If so, what do you use if anything? Thank you!
@@traceyjackson84 I believe in balance ecosystem, I don’t go crazy having bad bugs around. You need the bad to feed the good, unless it gets out of hand then, I find some natural remedies. A good fertilizer would help a lot in any plants health..good health fights fungal diseases. I defoliate right away when leaves are having problems, I water pretty consistently. Then my weather does some magic too.
I just found your channel could you please tell me what state you live in, in what zone?
Hi Linda, welcome to our little community. I am from Washington state, zone 8A. Enjoy watching.
I want to buy some of the david austin roses. So im Princeton tx. Probably zone 8 . can you suggest me that what type of roses should i go for??here in taxes the heat is just crazy. You can send me link.
