I hope you at least replace the chain before you donate it! 😋 I had a 260 pro years ago and sold it when the 261 M tronic came out. The 261 got stolen with all my other saws so I bought another 261 M tronic. I always convert the 261 from .325 chain to 3/8 pitch chain, sprocket and bar so all my saws can take the same chain, sprocket, bar, files, etc. The 261 M tronic is a great trim saw and in a pinch can get you thru the bigger stuff. It's so lite and handy, yet powerful for its size, I almost never go in the woods without it, with the tractor or the gator. All of my saws are M tronic models now because they run and idle so smooth and they all start the same, which you know is different from a carburetor model.

I'm writing from NH to let you know that I love your videos (I've been binge watching them this evening.) I've encouraged my son and his son to watch them too. We have been working together for a few weeks and are considering the possibility of running a family business. That would include land clearing and using some of the tools that you feature in your videos. We must see how the Lord leads and surely want His guidance. Love watching your videos! I'm 68 years young and still cut firewood.
I call it my "THERAPY" and attribute it to my good health and happiness. For years I supplemented my income with cutting firewood. We still heat our home with a wood stove and the whole family loves it. I appreciate your videos and your lifestyle. My wife and I are raising our two grand daughters and are teaching them real life skills that will benefit them in the future. I had a 028 Stihl for over 20 years and probably cut well over 100 cords of wood with that saw. Still ran great when I sold it for $100 10 years ago. Using a Stihl Farm Boss with a 20" bar now and I will have until I die. Also have a smaller Stihl I use for limbing. After 40 plus years of bucking firewood I still love the total workout it gives you and the satisfaction of using a natural resource that is totally renewable.

You need to play up the saw your donating is Stihl's Professional Series MS 261.
2 years ago I hemmed and hawed over buying a Farm Boss series or the Pro Series. Then I went to my dealer and did the touchy feely test. That's what to convinced me at 60 years old, I'm buying the Pro Series MS 261-CM. Sorry, I went with micro processor control upgrade. I have run about 15 gallons of fuel through it, just wearing out bars and chains. I cleared acres on my NC Mtn property, cleared acres of palm trees here in FL, did 2 neighborhood hurricane clean ups.
The saw is lightweight and powerful. It comes with the anti kick green chain, I upgraded mine to 20" bar and only use the yellow aggressive chains. I've had 2 other people upgrade there saws after using mine. The light weight powerful engine, easy start and it really really cuts with the yellow chain.
I've cut many 24"+ trees with the biggest being a 37" Birch, so this light weight saw can do the job. After doing all that clearing, I was wondering if I should have put even a larger bar on it. But all my big trees are down.

Been a fan of your channel for well over a year, and I think this is probably my favorite vid that you've done, for a number of reasons. Yeah, I run a small Stihl saw...MS-251...and I love it. But mainly because you and Melissa really show a HUGE amount of heart by helping out Buckin' and the charity with the raffle for that power saw. By the way, give Hunter a high-five from me! My girlfriend has twin special needs girls, and it's a chore, to be sure. I tip my Tilley to you and yours for making Hunter comfy and happy....
Thoroughly enjoyed the video.... new saw, new chain, new bar.... was really surprised that you didn’t have to adjust the chain tension after the first log. I always have to.
I have a suggestion for preventing bar oil overfill: I pour mine into one of those big laundry bottles with the push button dispenser. The one I use has a pour spout on it too. I just crack open the spout to vent it, aim the dispenser nozzle and push the button. The nozzle is small enough I can see how full the reservoir is and releasing the push button stops the flow without spilling a drop. I wish Stihl would take a hint from the soap folks and sell bar oil packaged this way.
I worked in the poly pipe business for about the last 30 years and used stihl chainsaws (farm boss) the whole time to cut everything. Many the time I cut pipes still full of water and I never used bar oil because I couldn't risk the oil contamination in the welding process making the pieces of pipe into whatever. There may be better saws available but Stihl never gave me a reason to go looking especially with the availability of parts where ever you go. The last saw I used were Stihl electric 240 volts chainsaws in a fabrication workshop. Can't remember the model number and Stihl have dis continued them now but they were a very powerful saw and light weight for what they did. Plug them in and no petrol, pull cords or bar oil to worry about. These saws over their life time probably did 30 to 50 thousand cuts each and we stretched a few chains and wore out bars from no oil. Even the quality of their chains was mind boggling with the abuse we threw at them. Always value for money because they kept on working with virtually zero down time. Great product.

The 261 is a Stihl factory hot-rod saw. Love mine!! Revs high, pulls hard, cuts fast. They did it right. Thank you for all that you do.

I bought a poulan a while back. It was a titanic struggle to start. I got 1 tank of fuel through it before the rope gave up and vacated the saw. Went and got a 251c. That is a smooth running beast of a saw! Stihl is the way to go.

I have an MS260 - 2005 vintage still going strong. I used it as my main saw for years cutting 10-15 cords of firewood and some big oak and it never missed a beat. I moved up to larger and faster saws for most of my cutting, but the 260 still sits on the ATV to clear trails and is the go to saw for cleanup as it is so light and nimble. Perfect saw for a small time firewood and landowner.
I love my MS261. It is a great saw. Light, powerful, efficient. Overall great. Much better than the MS291 that I used to have. The wife likes running it too. And it's a pro saw, so better built. Great choice, Mike!

I got a 261 in June. It replaced my 024 that had locked up. I absolutely love my Ms 261. Sooo lightweight but still plenty of power. Got mine at our local rural king in Bedford Indiana.
I’ve been watching your channel for a while. I may have missed it in a previous video, but this intro was the first time I have ever seen PDA between you two. This is not meant as criticism. I’m guessing your intention has always been to keep the focus on the show so we can enjoy the outdoor life as much as you do. It's just that I had never seen this on your program and it made me smile to see it.
I also loved Melissa’s comment about loving the smell of fuel. Only a real country girl would say that and it makes her just a little more awesome. The hat looks great on you, but what doesn’t? It’s similar to the hat you wear on your CZcams logo where you have a hat with red trim.
Mike, you are a genuine, all-around, good person. Not a lot of people would take the time to point out how something so simple as a chain saw can touch so many lives in good way and you did a magnificent job breaking it down.

Great choice. The MS261 Is my go to saw. I use to have a 362, but now that I'm older, the power/weight of the 261 is perfect!

Mike, you and Melissa should sign the saw and I reckon it will sell for more money. My wife was heading to town today and I said can you stop by the Stihl shop and get a spark plug for the MS311. When she came home she handed me the spark plug and said that there is something in the boot for you, I went over and to my surprise she had bought me a MSA160 C-B. After 30 years of marriage she is still full of surprises and I love her to bits.

Great outlook on the saw and its history ! I'm in Maine running my landscaping company and all I use is Stihl ! And yes I pronounce it steel like you ! Lol. Stihl saw live a long time. In 1976 I bought a new 031 stihl, it heated my house for 25 years, and fed my circular mill. I have never adjusted the carb. When I bought an 046 a few years ago I asked the mechanic to adjust the carb. He started and goosed it a few times and said I'm not touching it ether.
That is one fine looking saw. I have a 026. Love it. It is so light weight and it really rips for the size. I run a 20” bar on it with a full skip. Probably my favorite saw of all time. Never tried the new 261.
Love my 261C-M, it will be a great saw for whomever ends up with it! I’ve run it hard over the past year and a half or so. Summer cutting or winter cutting, never once had an issue. He/she will have a gem of a saw. Ice of you to “warm it up” for them, btw. Just too hard to resist, I know...😉😁
Would be really neat if you and Buckin' Billy Ray could autograph the saw with a permanent marker.

Hi Mike and Melissa you guy's have made me an addict to your videos. I did own a stihl year's ago had nothing but headaches with it. Went and bought a husqvarna and never looked back. Keep the videos coming please.
I had issues with making a mess with the bar oil also. I started transferring it into 32oz gear oil bottles. They are slimmer in design and have a cap with a little spout built in. I will usually have enough with one bottle for the job. Thanks again for the sharing of all the videos that you do.

I use a repurposed honey or pancake syrup bottle for bar oil. Pull top makes filling oil a lot easier, no mess.
Just found your channel and subscribed. You have a very attractive life there. Melissa looks and works like she is 25 (no disrespect intended/meant as a respectful compliment), the property, the toys & tools you have, etc. I know you have worked for it and it hasn't been easy, but I really appreciate what you have built for your life and appreciate you sharing it. The MS261 is a great saw. I use it all the time. The weight is just right for using over long periods. Great video guy's. Keep up the great work.
Hi Mike I have the MS 261 and really like it. I'm in my 70s, so I really appreciate the de-compression feature for starting (for us older guys). Also have the HT 131 pole saw, Yard Boss, and Kombi 131R. The last two with several attachments.. I do like Stihl products.

I have that saw and find that it can last a long time on one tank of fuel. I love that little saw.
use a empty soap dispenser, like from Tide, All, Etc, that dispenses with a push button.. Very controlled and clean. Red for gas and orange for oil.
Here's a thought ...... How about you Hosting a Buckinstock , you seem to have the room for it , then some of us East coasters could make it to one LOL

Quick tip for the chain bar oil. Years ago I started using a 1 gallon gas can (low profile) with a narrow fill tube. It's an older style can with a vent cap on the backside of the can.
NO MORE OVER FILLING OR SPILLS!
As much as you cut wood you will never use the chain bar oil jug again when you discover the control you have with a small vented gas can for your chain bar oil.

i think you should be using a smaller saw for cutting most firewood. i use that model saw with 16" & 20" bars that are narrow kerf. the narrow kerf technology really makes the saw perform like a bigger displacement saw.

My fav saw is a McCullough 125 CP with a 48" bar. I don't use it much any more, but behind that, Stihl is my choice.

Mike...How did you get an MS-261 that is not M-tronic? Whoever gets that is going to be thanking you when he can tune the saw himself.
Filling the bar oil reservoir in a saw is so much easier and less messy if you get one of Melissa's Clorox 2 or similar laundry detergent bottles. (The smaller ones are easier to handle and pour but the larger ones don't require filling as often. You will never go through more than a quart of oil in most days anyway!) Wash it out real good, wash a little mix gas through it to get it real clean, let it dry out, and fill it with bar oil. The spout was designed to allow it to pour right in the opening and it never spills. And you can turn the Stihl bottle of oil upside down over the nozzle, let it sit for a couple of hours, and get every last drop that you paid for.

Hello Mike and Melissa, good choice, I have this type of chainsaw for more than 3 years now and I never touch a screw on this saw.
I have been running an MS460 for fire wood it cuts fast but it gets heavy after a while. I am going to look into one of those. If there is a way to buy raffle tickets with out being at Buckin Stock I would be interested. I wanted to go but just couldn't get there!! I would even be interested in donating to any at risk kids. Lord know I could have used help when I was young. It took me almost had to die to get my life together. That was 20 years ago. And I am 58 now so I look back and see how much of life was wasted and drunk. I wouldn't wish that on any one!!!

I actually have something to share. I’ve learned a lot from you and I’d like to share one thing we do. I learned from my wives family to use a syrup bottle for the chain oil. The top allows you to pour the oil with a lot less spillage. (I guess you can use any bottle that has a top like that). I actually then found out that the top fits right onto a store bought chain oil bottle. Any way. Thank you for sharing all that you do.
By the way my girls still love seeing your videos, and are especially excited when Melissa is in them.

For the money, weight vs power, I don't think you can beat an MS 261. This past fall and winter I cut 3.5 cords and it never wore me down.
I love how it's going to get raffled off for kids to bad it to soon to this weekend could of sent you guys money to get me a few raffled tickets if won you could of brought it back home and I'd try to make my way out your way to meet you guys and pick the saw up . Looks like a great saw I have a older 170 and had a 440 it shot craps so it got replaced with a 661 . Could always use one in between. Hope you guys have a great time this weekend and keep making the videos I'll be watching .
