If you char the bamboo with a propane weed burner it will seal the wood and the bamboo will not rot. This is cheap with no chemicals. The Japanese invented this process and you can look it up on the Internet.

In PR we have many concrete and cement houses and roofs... During strong hurricanes like Maria , I open the windows a little bit to mitigate the pressure on the walls of windows... Some wind enters and goes across and gets out and keeps the inside fresh... About the front property fence , maybe keeping some 1 inch spaces between boards on the fence will relieve some wind pressure in storms... I thought the same thing : the beautiful fence will act as a big sail in a storm or hurricane. I enjoy their videos and I wish them the best!

Hey guys I found a simple solution to keep the Iguanas out of a vegetable garden, plant rows of marigold flower plants between the rows of vegetables your growing. The marigolds put off an odor the Iguanas can't stand and neither do the mosquitoes like the smell. When I lived in Key Largo, I had a small garden that was doing very well until the Iguanas laid claim to the garden, after a little research no more Iguana issues..... Society garlic plants are another good option to keep the Iguanas out. You can also mix up a solution of cayenne pepper, lemon juice, and dish soap in a 1 gallon sprayer or 2 gallon and saturate the ground around the vegetable plants it will also deter the Iguanas. You can spray this solution on mature plants and it will stop the little thief's from stealing but might burn the leaves on younger plants...

Matt, Kristen the fence is awesome and looks nice and using natural materials is a great idea and a great way to save money and conserve resources. I would like to add my two cents in and please I'm trying to help and not criticizing. If you make the fence about 4 foot you will save on the amount of bamboo you use and the bamboo will go further. Try putting a hot wire, electric fence all the way around the perimeter that might stop the lizard problem. Having the fence shorter will allow you to see your beautiful property and my fence is 4 ft tall and our pygmy goat stay in just fine. A electric fence is a small investment.keep up the good work😊

Some suggestions which you may have already decided not to use, but here goes. Solar powered Electric fence. There must be some way to construct a wire fence that when electrified would keep those buggers out. Next. Is there a native vine that grows effortlessly that the iguanas don’t like to eat. Use that to reinforce the bamboo fence. Smells. Any plant with a natural scent that keeps the iguanas away or makes them sick when they eat it.

How about and electric fence? I'd think that would discourage the iguanas and eventually the goats? No expert here, but it seems you have enough bamboo to stabilize the bottom of chicken wire to keep the iguanas from going under and the chicken wire would provide an EXCELLENT ground and with a live electric fence wire around the top....I'd think you could get quite the sizable garden patch for starters. Plenty of organic matter from the mowing, leaves and manures, by next year you should have a OUTSTANDING organic soil going! So excited for you guys. I know the process of discovery and experimenting can be frustrating, but it is the best teacher for wisdom and understanding what and why things work. I LOVE it!

When I was in Guayaquil, Ecuador, there was a city park which attracted many iguanas. During non-feeding times, they would climb up the palm trees with little difficulty to wait. So I think your crafty fence won't serve the purpose of keeping the iguanas out.

So the slats would be easier to make using your skill saw and make them more uniform. Just make an X sawhorses and you can do it standing

Hi from Sydney, Australia. We have water dragons that love our pools on the Central Coast. They breed frequently. I have catched many by hand and relocated down by our lake but they aways return. My boarder collie keeps them at bay but they end off worse and pretend to die so she loses interest, then there gone. Good luck in finding a solution, local advice is probably best for controlling these native pests. Love GBU show John

Here in Pennsylvania we seldom worry too much about the weather. However, tropical depression Debby came for a visit on Friday August 9th. It started raining around 6AM and by 10 AM I had to dump the rain gauge to start over. By noon it tapered off to 6.1 inches total. Some nearby places had flash floods. One heavy rain band that was probably 15 miles wide and 40 plus miles long left a trail of destruction from South of Williamsport to Canisteo, New York. Yesterday there was a low pressure system that parked a severe thunderstorm over part of Toronto and Mississauga, Ontario. Look both of these events up and watch some videos.

I hate to tell you but that is a play yard for iguanas. They climb a tree in minutes. They climb that fence in seconds

What about some off cut netting to put over your garden, like nylon fishing net?

Jungle Joey going to work. I love the use of free wood. I wood use those bamboo posts and wrap that with chicken wire with the electric fence. Zap those iguanas like mosquitos. Connect a battery for night time and solar for the daytime.
Hope the storm didn’t flood out your home or damage the boat.

according to google a bamboo post buried in the ground has a life span of six months before rot and insects causes it to collapse...

True… Bamboo MUST be preserved to mitigate the inside starch that insects eat & ROT occurs within Months…

Fun video. Plant marigolds around the outside of your bamboo fence. I'm afraid those iguanas are gonna go right thru that fence to get to your nice veggies.
I'd trap em and relocate them farther from your nice home. Just my opinion. Be safe with this hurricane. As always, love n hugs, Myk

You guys make such a great team. Both in life in general and in love. Matt you work so hard and I know Kristen looks after a lot of the vlogging. I really hope you get where you want to be. I know about pests. I had 100 tulip bulbs stolen by squirrels one year, frustating!

Build your above-ground planting boxes to whatever dimension you want. Then, you want to take at least a 1 x 12, add it to the top of the box, and slant it outward at about 30 degrees. Cover the outer surface with something slippery, like a sheet of aluminum or any other hard-surfaced item that they can not get their claws into. The bigger you make the sloped surface, the more protection you should have.
