i just realized the birds immediately start mimicking katniss, when she starts singing. its really subtle, but also reflective of the people of the rebellion, who follow her, no questions asked.
Also reflects back to her father. It was said that even birds would stop to listen to him. So it’s only natural that instantly they choose to listen to her and sing for her

This was actually my favorite scene of all the movies because it was shot exactly the way I pictured it as I was reading, especially Pollux and how lovable he is.

Fun fact: in the book, it says the song is actually forbidden, and that one time Katniss’ father was singing it to them, and Prim was making ‘necklaces of rope’ for them. Then Katniss’s mother came outside, and started yelling. That scared Katniss, because her mother barley yelled.

In the books they played her singing video recap to help Peeta from his capital conditioning and it worked he instantly snapped out of it.
I read Catching Fire in my school, and I really wanted to find out what the mockingjay was like. I found this, and this actually tells you and helps you a lot. :)

@Cobiwan Kenobi It's revealed in the new prequel book that his lover wrote this song for him. I really recommend reading it because it's sooo good and unlike other prequels that try to make you feel bad for and excuse away the villian's actions, this prequel doesn't do that at all and just explains how Snow became the evil man we know him to be here

It was revealed in the prequel book that it was based on true events that 18 year old Snow witnessed and his lover wrote the song for him
It can be interpreted a lot of ways, but me personally, I always saw it as a message that when things are even at the most terrible they could possibly be- there’s still something to hope for, to die to protect, and to fight for.
Let us not ever forget: when we are discussing our favorite parts of this movie, Suzanne Collins' overarching message was "This is what happens when your government gets too powerful."

@guillen If you are a reader, then I recommend reading the second book of the series "Catching Fire" that has a small section of Katniss and Peeta watching Haymitch's year in the games and explaining everything. Also there's a great fanmade video of it on CZcams if you search up "Hunger Games Quarter Quell"
