The pregnancy announcement is an excellent window into human psychology. These people are perfectly willing to watch children die - but a pregnant woman is considered unacceptable.
Kind of like anti abortion people.
I think it has less to do with the fact she’s pregnant and more to do with the fact that these Victors are like Hollywood celebrities in the eyes of the Capitol Citizens. It’d be like Taylor Swift announcing she’s pregnant but is now being forced to do sports or something, all her fans would freak out and immediately attack whoever’s responsible. If Katniss was an ordinary tribute and not a Victor, they wouldn’t care at all about her.
Yea the capital sobbing over an unborn child but being ok with killing dozens of living people/children every year sounds awfully familiar.
its giving pro lifers lmao

He shouldn't had been saying that stuff what if Katniss decided to be with someone else? It would be extremely awkward down the line.
I was kinda appalled since his character was technically like 17 years old. But kids nowadays be having kids around that age anyway it just seems unusual.
@@traverse_danikuuu Nowadays? You know people are having kids way later now than they used to right?
@@Jassiij27 The point was that at least she would be alive.
Gloss saying that they are "not going by choice" weighs so much more when you remember that both him and Cashmere volunteered for their respective games. Now, they are forced back into the arena and they are obviously not happy to do so anymore.
good catch
I feel so awful for gloss and cashmere, they were raised to think going was an honour but they have to live with the consequences. hell cashmere was one of the victors forced into prostitution. i think suzanne villainized them but at the end of the day they were a brother and sister who didn’t want to die or be separated. i wish haymitch and plutarch spoke to them but ig the careers were too risky :/
@@megan.5139 I wish they would have been included in the plan of overthrowing the Games too. The comment they made and how Haymitch remarked that they were also some of the tributes that wanted to stop the Games make me believe that they might have not turned them down, Cashmere and Gloss were really not happy to be there. I understand not wanting to include Brutus and Enobaria since they actually seemed eager to participate again but District 1? Not at all.
There definitely is missed potential in not expanding on Children who were brainwashed on the glory of the Hunger Games and actually surviving said game to realize it’s hell.
Like how Cato was entering the game to how he ended up before his death.
@@bijuutamer729 That's great food for thought, I haven't really taken that into account. Then add the fact that those who were brainwashed on the glory of the Hunger Games and realized they were hell, not only did they survive them, but they had to go on as mentors to other children who believed it's an honor to volunteer as tribute, confident that they'd survive the Games just like they themselves once used to believe. And then they watched many of those children die a brutal death.

One of my favorite moments in the books that couldn't be translated to screen was that when Peeta was all "if I weren't for the baby" in the book, he was so convincing that for a moment Katniss herself was a little convinced that there was a baby, even though she damn well knew that she never slept with Peeta
Yesss i was laughing hard reading that part
Peeta: we have a baby on the way
Katniss completely knowing this was impossible: we do?
Oh my god I totally forgot about that part in the book until now!!!
lmao! my teenage dumb ass had to re-read the previous chapters thinking that I skipped the part where Peeta and Katniss slept together (probably in the train) 😂😅
Something else I love in the books is how that thought is expanded upon. To the point where Katniss surmises that the fear of losing your child to the games, to the way the world is, is shared by every parent and potential parent. Where Katniss realises a big part of why she doesn’t want children is thanks to the world the capitol has created. I had to sit with that one for a little while.
I love finnick - not only Is he professing his love for Annie but really he's convincing every woman he's slept with that it's her... earning lots of sponsors
Didn’t he say Annie’s name in his interview? And I don’t think he at least willingly slept with anyone else for years
@@brennathecatlover4360 maybe he did but not here in this scene, and we learn later on that Finnick was trafficked, so you’re right, he didn’t voluntarily sleep with anyone other than Annie. By making his speech here vague, the rich Capitol women who paid for him may think he’s talking about them, and pay to sponsor him in the Games.
@@brennathecatlover4360he didn't, he left it purposely vague so many people around the Capitol would think he was talking about them
Not just sponsors, but rich people in the Capitol thinking that Finnick was in love with them would increase the chances of the games being canceled (something ALL of the tributes hint (or scream) at) since they wouldn't want their precious toy (he was abused by them, NOTHING more) to die.
It wasn’t just women (and probably not primary women either) who forced him to have sex.

@@jradjj2988 well she had nothing to lose.
I love how terrified Caesar looks during these scenes. Like how you can see the smile vanish from Caesar’s face the second he realizes what’s happening with Katniss’ dress, like actually choking in the middle of his sentence. And not only can he not say the word “Mockingjay”, but then explicitly goes out of his way to single out Cinna. Almost like he’s pleading to Snow “This was all Cinna’s fault, look at Cinna, I had nothing to do with this.” And then at the very end when he can’t even speak at the absolute fiasco unfolding in front of him.
You know, I was just thinking how it's interesting that Caesar still tries to help the tributes despite being a part of this horrible system - BUT HE THREW MY MAN CINNA UNDER THE BUS

The fact that Johanna's actress went to the director as told him she thought her character might be more angry is honestly genius. Apparently you're only allowed 1 F bomb in a PG 13 movie and since she used several they bleeped her. I remember sitting in the theater watching it and laughing as hard as everybody else because I was NOT expecting THAT.
Literal Minors killing each other, but god forbid we get 2 f bombs off.
I actually cried when that happened bc the sound gives me a stomach attack, also since one of the characters said oh shit before this scene it made me angry that it happened bc I thought movie theaters allowed uncensored dialogue in these movies
And it makes perfect sense in context, because she's on national TV, so of course they would bleep her!
That was honestly really smart of her I think that reaction totally if it’s a character more than being sad or trying to reason her way out of it
I loved the book, but this just felt so Johanna when I saw it I thought it was in the book.

Lmao
also love his reaction to Cinna’s mockingjay reveal,, you can hear the concern/empathy for him knowing cinna was actively making his stance, and knew what would happen as a result
Right. It's his job to be dismissive at that but you know he knows she's right
The actor did an incredible job (honestly most of the acting was really good) showing how he secretly agrees with the tributes, he sympathizes with them (not just here, the fact that even in the first movie he makes a point to make sure each tribute looks good, he identifies with each of them even though he knows he'll only ever see one of them again), but he can't really encourage them in these interviews because of Snow.
I’ve always had a soft spot for Caesar. On one hand, he’s a Capitol guy. On the other, he actually does his best to help the tributes gain sponsors

Niall Prideaux actually in the book Johanna doesn’t say that. She does the same as the other tributes.

You can hear the pain in Katniss' voice. She knew right then and there that Cinna just sealed his own death sentence.
No, she didn't. She didn't knew about rebellion or that half the tributes and Cinna were part of it .
Haymitch didn't told either Peeta of her, in case, they got captured.
But, I think, she felt that Cinna might be in trouble for what he did. She didn't know Cinna was going to die, until he was killed in plane.

Why is no one talking about the fact that the moment they hold their hands up the crowd is heard to grow even louder and even more restless. First ever public solidarity between the districts, especially the tributes, over their shared hatred of the games as they know the true horrors of it. Being met with hatred even tho the capitals residence are calling for the games to be stopped over a baby that isn’t even real. That’s just. Omg. Always gives me chills

I love how all the tactics to stop the games are so mild compared to Johanna’s like:
The district one siblings: try to get people to be sympathetic to their situation and to end the games that way
Betee: says some smart shit about how panem doesn’t have to see the victors go and and they can still stop the games
Finnick: tries to woo everyone over and be all like “I don’t want my hubby to die, stop the games”
Peeta: tries to stop the games by saying that Katniss is pregnant with their child and they also got married and like trying to get people to be like “DONT LET THAT POOR UNBORN FETUS IN THE GAMES, STOP THE GAMES”
Katniss: honestly idk the tactic, maybe woo them over or smth
Then Johanna is all like: “this is fucking bullshit”, and “fuck everyone who made me participate in the games AGAIN”
Great analysis! It shows that none of these Tributes never wanted to kill each other.
katniss wasn't trying to stop the games, katniss was talking to the districta and calling them into action. She was telling them the mockingjay has survived.
I noticed how Cashmere and Gloss was calling the Capitol citizens their family, and both do not know why they would send their “family” back into the deadly Hunger Games. Apparently, Cashmere and Gloss interviews in the books made everyone cry.
How was Peetas mild? 😂 his was the most effective and resulted in the biggest reaction. Johanna’s wouldn’t have made a difference
In the book, it was mentioned finnick's interview was impactful because everyone thought he was talking about them
I love the ending of this scene in the books-
_““Maybe I'd think that, too, Caesar,” says Peeta bitterly, “if it weren't for the baby.”_
_There. He's done it again. Dropped a bomb that wipes out the efforts of every tribute who came before him. Well, maybe not. Maybe this year he has only lit the fuse on a bomb that the victors themselves have been building. Hoping someone would be able to detonate it. Perhaps thinking it would be me in my bridal gown. Not knowing how much I rely on Cinna's talents, whereas Peeta needs nothing more than his wits._
_As the bomb explodes, it sends accusations of injustice and barbarism and cruelty flying out in every direction. Even the most Capitol-loving, Games-hungry, bloodthirsty person out there can't ignore, at least for a moment, how horrific the whole thing is._
_I am pregnant._
_The audience can't absorb the news right away. It has to strike them and sink in and be confirmed by other voices before they begin to sound like a herd of wounded animals, moaning, shrieking, calling for help. And me? I know my face is projected in a tight close-up on the screen, but I don't make any effort to hide it. Because for a moment, even I am working through what Peeta has said. Isn't it the thing I dreaded most about the wedding, about the future-the loss of my children to the Games? And it could be true now, couldn't it? If I hadn't spent my life building up layers of defenses until I recoil at even the suggestion of marriage or a family?_
_Caesar can't rein in the crowd again, not even when the buzzer sounds. Peeta nods his good-bye and comes back to his seat without any more conversation. I can see Caesar's lips moving, but the place is in total chaos and I can't hear a word. Only the blast of the anthem, cranked up so loud I can feel it vibrating through my bones, lets us know where we stand in the program. I automatically rise and, as I do, I sense Peeta reaching out for me. Tears run down his face as I take his hand. How real are the tears? Is this an acknowledgment that he has been stalked by the same fears that I have? That every victor has? Every parent in every district in Panem?_
_I look back to the crowd, but the faces of Rue's mother and father swim before my eyes. Their sorrow. Their loss. I turn spontaneously to Chaff and offer my hand. I feel my fingers close around the stump that now completes his arm and hold fast._
_And then it happens. Up and down the row, the victors begin to join hands. Some right away, like the morphlings, or Wiress and Beetee. Others unsure but caught up in the demands of those around them, like Brutus and Enobaria. By the time the anthem plays its final strains, all twenty-four of us stand in one unbroken line in what must be the first public show of unity among the districts since the Dark Days. You can see the realization of this as the screens begin to pop into blackness. It's too late, though. In the confusion they didn't cut us off in time. Everyone has seen.”_

I thought you said the interviewer forgot Beetee's name and to not make it obvious he complemented his intelligence 🤣
Peeta UNDERSTOOD the assignment. Like he played the hungergames SO well
Caesar is such an interesting and complex character. He tries to help the Tributes relax during their interviews but also tries to make them memorable, desirable to the Sponsors, but he has to walk such a fine line in order to stay alive himself as his very job keeps him under Snow's watch. He can't show where his loyalties actually lie, and the only thing that is a possible hint to his loyalties is the fact that he survives the series, which hints at the very least he was NOT loyal to Snow. I see him more as a neutral party who is neutral because he HAS to be just to survive. So he plays both sides the way he's expected to, never leaning too far to one side.
The author also stated he was not directly affiliated with Snow and thus explains his survival.
Yes I especially loved his first interview with Katniss, you can tell she has no idea what she's doing and is panicking out of her mind. But he twists the errors she makes into jokes, he starts a line of questioning that makes her sound noble, brave, and sympathetic for volunteering for tribute. She enters the stage with nothing more than "girl on fire" to her name, and leaves with a more heroic character in the eyes of the audience.
I was so happy he survived the series.
love this analysis but personally id like to think that if he were to be given a choice he WOULD side more with the capitol but that’s just a head canon
@@edwinalonso9026Definitely he would, it's also been shown in the third book. Also his answer to beetee. He's no matter than other people from the capitol.
He doesn't care about the Tributes at all. It's a game to him, not people's lives. He talks about the odds, not the stakes.
In the books, he was described to be much more sincere if I'm not mistaken. He is doing his job pretty well but at the same time, based on Katniss' POV, he seems to not only help her relax as you mentioned, he also was genuinely empathetic.

Beetee won his games by using his intelligence and built an electrical traps to kill the rest of the competitors to win.
Finnick was so popular because of his good looks to the point that he got the most expensive gifts such as a trident (he may have gotten armor too. I am not sure. I am just trying to remember but that could be very wrong....becoming the youngest to win at. Of course we find out late on what happens to good looking victors...makes it worse because of his age....
Annie won her games by being the only one left that could swim due to being from the fishing district. As they flooded the arena. However she saw the male counterpart from district 4 get beheaded...it severely traumatized her. That and being in the games in general to the point she comes off as crazy to the others for example. But it's due to post traumatic stress disorder and maybe more. This made her unsuitable to be in a public relationship with Finnick...(also she was a brunette in the books not a red head. Plus despite being from the career district it appears she wasn't like any of the others in wanting to kill or volunteer because they were trained.)

For the people saying they are trying to stop the games just because of the baby. Throughout the scene the audience displays their displeasure and sorrow over losing their favorite celebrities. They have followed these people (not just Katniss and Peeta) like they were their favorite characters in some book. It broke thier hearts to see the people who they have watched for years, marching to their deaths. Some points were more than others but when they found out their fav ship was about to die before their baby could be born, they lost it.

After his first interview before the 74th games, Katniss is fuming that Peeta said he was in love with her, believing it made her look weak, but after being told by Haymitch that it made her look desirable, she realises the value in being liked by the audience and sponsors. Here, also, they are aware of the need to stop the games, and all the tributes probably believe that the baby is fake, but aren’t going to contradict Peeta’s statement as they all know it is a power move to try and stop the games. Having said that, it ought to still help with sponsorship.
TLDR: Katniss learnt to trust Peeta and believes this baby lie could help stop the games lol
@@ropowo it's actually incredible relationship development, now that you mention it. the difference in Katniss' reactions to Peeta's two interviews is stark
Also - Katniss isn’t very believable so she also couldn’t play the card on herself 😂
@@yujaehyun1925I swear, each time I read the books or watch the films, there’s always something new I find that went over my head as a teenager.
Good eye!
Honestly, this is one of my favourite scenes. Katniss did have her moments as the symbol of the rebelion, but most of the time she was honestly doing nothing but following orders. Peeta, on the other hand, was always a master of words. In his first interview he basically created a storyline for him and Katniss, and in the second he managed to achieve what the others tried but failed. He knows what to say and when to say it, and truthfully I believe he would be a far better option as the symbol of the rebellion. Almost all of Katniss successes in the Games was in part due to him, and he was capable of influencing the people of the Capitol with just his words. He was by far the best for the job, and it always seemed a little odd to me why they ended up picking Katniss. If memory serves right, I even that think Coin said at one point that they should've had rescued Petta instead.
Tbh it was a teamgame, he also wouldn't have survived without her.
Think it was hamich or plutoch who literally said the old plan was saving peeta not you
Peeta and the team were good at pretending and lying, while Katniss was not. But that also contributed to when she actively reacted to events happening around her, she became a true fire that sparked inspiration to all districts and even the capitol. Peeta was good at pleasing the crowd, especially the capitol, but Katniss in her best moments fanned the fire to the rebellions.
Peeta was a charmer but Kataniss was a warrior

I adore how each of the tributes expressed their discontent in a different way; Gloss and Cashmere with sadness, Beetee with intelligence, Finnick with emotional manipulation, Johanna with anger, Katniss with silent rebellion and Peeta with pure wits 😊 such a nice introduction for each character's personality
What I love about this scene of the tributes holding hands is cause it shows a more human side to even the careers who are actively trying to hunt Katniss and Peeta in the games. These people are traumatized and if they had a choice they wouldn’t go back.

@Weirdo's Haven damn🤣🤣🤣🤣

In the book it was described that she had no idea that the dress would catch on fire or reveal the "Mockingjay" dress (which is very clearly a magpie) underneath when she twirled either. Cinna had told her that she must twirl, but only at the end of her interview, but didn't tell her why or what would happen. She noticed that the dress seemed bulkier and heavier than would be expected of just the wedding dress, but didn't know why. I think it even mentioned her feeling a tag or pin being pulled and it caught on fire much to her surprise. Frightened and not knowing what to do to avoid being burned, she just kept spinning until the fire was out, though as with other fire-costumes Cinna had made the fire was fake and did not burn her, but unlike those the (outer) dress actually burned away. So on top of finding out she's apparently married and pregnant, she also found herself unexpectedly on fire - that's a good bit of a surprise to anyone!
In the movie m, does woof fall off his pedestal and drown? If so where?
Johanna: really, a wedding dress?

Cinna knew it was his last moment to do something great, and he did something magnificent
He seems like the kind of man who would rather die than compromise his artistic vision. The stakes are clear, and he took his chance to exalt a woman who could use her image as part of a revolution.
If anyone wants to know, in the books Katniss was actually crying cause she imagined a world where she had to mentor her own child just to watch them die in the games
Imagine Johanna as a girl who graduated High school

Honestly Peeta is underrated. He might not be great at hunting/killing/survival skills but he definitely has an amazing skill in human communication. Being able to manipulate thousands of people(not just the dim witted capital people, but other disticts) with his words. He is completely unearthed and not praised for his brilliance.
According to the books, Coin actually wanted to have him be the face of the rebellion for that reason (Katniss would presumably be made a martyr).
He has charisma.
And he and Katniss at then end are together with two lovely children.
Actually in the books Peeta was super strong and I believe in the first one was the only person to go up against Cato and not die. Anyways he was a good fighter in the books, he just preferred peace.
@@mhcook9747 Unlike the film verison where they have a son first then a daughter who's only a baby. It's more because of the pink blanket. Also their actually both portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence's nephews. LOL. The daughter is first and the son is second and more of a toddler not a baby in the books. Their names are confirmed to be Willow and Rye. Fitting as a Willow is a plant fitting her mother's side of the family. Rye is a type of bread. Fitting the father's side. LOL. The film doesn't mention that Peeta is what got Katniss to change her mind after 15 years of being together. As he wanted children so very badly.
Caesar is underrated as hell. Imagine having to interview little kids and really get to know them but then for them to dies days later. And for this to happen every year. Wow. Respect.
a potato he likes it though he’s a product of the capital
He doesn’t really care about those people though. He only cares about his job
I agree with a potato, I don't respect him because he did nothing about it, but then again what could he really do? He was not really a man of power within the capitol
it's kind of hard for him. he has to have a job, so it's being an interviewer. if he tries to help any of the children, not only will he be fired, he'll also be president snowed, aka going the same way as seneca crane. so he's forced to smile and laugh as children die in the games, whether he likes it or not.
As long as he is alive and well, well dressed and has the opportunity to exploit the emotions and the show he doesn’t seem to give a shit about those kids.
I personally love Caesar’s character. The fact that his performance as the host was so supposed to be over the top with the fake smile and laugh makes it so entertaining. Also the implied threat of getting killed if he doesn’t keep up appearances is quite interesting to me.
And he apparently having a complex surgery to keep him from aging. Being he looks the same even during the 50th hunger games. So you wonder how old he is?
One thing I don’t see spoken about enough is how clever Peeta is. No question that Katniss is the better fighter and survivor, but Peeta is brilliant at manipulating the audience into rooting for him. In his first games he knew straight away to wave outside the train and in his interview he was the one to create the star crossed lovers gambit that saved both his and Katniss’ lives multiple times.
Then in this interview, oh man what a king! The baby thing is bloody genius, man I just love Peeta, you can see why Coin wanted him to be the mockingjay cause he was adored by the capital and wasn’t resented by other districts like Katniss (but tbh Coin also probably believed Peeta would be easier to control than Katniss - that’s on her cause I don’t buy that tbh)
Anyway sorry I just love Peeta goodbye

You can tell when Cinna was waving after being called out that he knew he was going to die for his rebellion by his face, and that was a moment that broke my heart....
It's even worse than that. In the first book, Katniss asks him how he ended up as designer for the underdog District 12 (because no designer ever wants their district) and he says briefly "I asked for District 12" and turns away. He knew right from the start he was going to die for what he would do, and he went ahead anyway. I reckon in some ways he's the bravest character in the trilogy.
I doubt the events of Mockingjay wouldve ever occured if it weren't for cinna
