    If you like Speed and Trash, Please make sure to check out Queen of Winter Throned. It showcases All of Dani's Singing Styles and the instruments are Fucking Amazing!

Cradle genuinely are the most underrated metal band. Epic songwriter and Dani is a modern day poet / bard really. Please do this entire album it's a masterpiece and most definitely about Elizabeth bathory. He's written lots about her and other mystical/ mythic women from ancient history 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘👍

    Cruelty and the Beast is what I would call a musical masterpiece.
    A concept album written when the band were at the top of their game, far superior to their recent work, they've never created anything like it since, for want of trying.
    It was heavily inspired by the Hammer Horror movies, and even features the Voicework of the late Ingrid Pitt on some tracks, which works fantastically.
    From beginning to end, it's excellent, and whilst I know it wouldn't work for a reaction video, it really does benefit from listening to it all the way through, back to back, since it basically chronicles Elisabeth Báthory's rise and fall as the 'Blood Countess', in a way only that era of Cradle could capture.
    Whilst it's difficult to recommend specific tracks, due to them all being highly recommendable, I would say it's worth looking for a video which combines both 'Once Upon Atrocity' and the subsequent track, 'Thirteen Autumns and a Widow', since they really are designed to be listened to from one straight into the other, and also it's one hell of a way to start an album.
    It really sets the scene for what's to come.
    Also; Cradle recently re-issued a 'remastered' version of the album, with more prominent drums etc. (they were originally a little weak sounding at times), but unfortunately they also nerfed the layers of keyboards which gave the original version its incredible atmosphere and made it what it was, so for that reason, I highly recommend you listen to the original first-off, especially if you enjoy the background atmospherics.
    This will be a controversial opinion, because the drums were a point of ire for a lot of people (including Dani Filth), but in my opinion them taking a back seat to the atmospheric keyboards works really well, and it's a more than acceptable trade-off.
    It's essentially the difference between the album sounding like it was recorded in a studio (reissue) vs an old cathedral (original).
    Whatever you do, I highly recommend you revisit this album for your reactions at least once more, as it, along with 'Dusk...and Her Embrace' is easily the band's best work.

    • @omegazx7236
      @omegazx7236 Před rokem +1

    • @RathBlack
      @RathBlack Před rokem

      @@omegazx7236 For me, the thick layers of atmospheric keyboards in the original make the album for me, so it's my personal go-to.
      I liken it to sounding like it was recorded in an old cathedral, as opposed to the remaster sounding like it was recorded in a studio.
      I like both though, and think it's great to have the two different takes on the same material to dip into, and completely respect your preference for the remaster, as it's definitely more refined.

    Cruelty and the Beast if a fantastic album. Well done for spotting that the song's about Elizabeth Bathory. Fun fact - the spoken word part on The Twisted Nails of Faith is by Ingrid Pitt who was in Countess Dracula which based on the story of Elizabeth Bathory. I'm sure plenty of CoF fans are already aware of that ;)

  • @RustBunny
    @RustBunny Před 3 lety +3

    I had to like this even before you got to the song. Cruelty And The Beast is, to this day, one of my top ten albums - perhaps top 5. If you have yet to hear it, I do recommend that you listen to the Re-Mistressed release of the album. Remixes and remasters often fail to deliver, but what they did was make the album sound like it should have - and how many CoF fans try to remember it sounding. Most notable is how the drums finally sound and the improvement to Sarah's vocals, but everything else has been given the treatment it deserved so long ago before being maimed in the studio. As much as I love the album, it's hard to go back and listen to the original release now.

    I once watched a show where they said that Elizbet Bathory's execution, was that she was only allowed to sustain herself from pig's blood, and that it took three years for her to become sick enough to die from having to eat that way. Just yikes. Probably the most grotesque form of execution I've ever heard of. My vote today is

Pretty much anything from Vempire is pure gold. The best way to describe it would be Cruelty being a nice little danish while Rape and Ruin is pretty much a whole steak dinner followed by a nice apple pie LOL. So, just because you showed interest in the story of the countess Bathory and in female serial killers in general, I think I might just share a piece of history about a similar woman from my own country. In the XVIII century Russia there was a woman who is regarded as a "Russian Elizabeth Bathory", Darya Nikolayevna Saltykova commonly referred as Saltychikha. A noblewoman widow who inherited her deceased husband's mansion and sadistically tortured and killed her serfs. When all this became known to the empress Catherine the Great, she struggled to make a decision, since at that time the abolition of the death penalty was paraded. But the empress was so stunned about the atrocities this noblewoman committed especially to the young girls that she ordered Saltychikha to be locked down in a very small underground cell without a trace of light to be seen and even went as far as ordering her guards to never speak to her so that she couldn't have even a shadow of human interaction.
    Pretty grim and unknown story, thought you might be interested to learn about this.

    Ah this was an excellent reaction. I died at the serial killer senses part 😂
    I fucking LOVE this album. It’s such an excellent blend of thrash and dark metal with just a hint of the very gothic and orchestral sounds that were to become much more present on future albums.
    I just wish this album (and Dusk) and maybe Midian, were recorded with late 2000’s/2010’s quality. Even on the remastered album there are some sections where everything is a bit jumbled.

    The style is beautiful horror. I highly suggest Lord of abortion live at Birmingham to really get a feel of how their age and presence is betrayed at their peak talent. Some other great songs they have made are All hope in eclipse, the cult of Venus aversa(this is very halloweeny), lustmord and wargasm, darkness incarnate, tragic kingdom, and if you want to see their first and foremost biggest song it's again better heard life at Birmingham (the principle of evil made flesh and dusk and her embrace. This is when they more identified with black metal)
    Looking forward to more!

    Yeah, this album is totally dedicated to Erzebeth (Elizabeth ) Bathory. All voices are from him with the exception of the female ones. In Bathory Aria, and if you enjoy movies, there was a movie about Elizabeth portrayed by Ingrid Pitt (Late 70) and she agree to sing in the album . In music 7 there is also a part where she says a verse or so. They do a lot of concept albuns. Look at the albuns and you can check it. Midian is also about mythos of cthulhu and clive barker and such. Ther eis one about giles de rais, etc... and the lyrics? My god. I doubt there exists a better song writer than Dani (all lyrics from all albuns are his)

    Awesome video. I like your reaction and thoughts! I suggest finding better sources for the lyrics though. There are a few words wrong here and there. Darklyrics is a good source, FYI :)
