1967 Toyota 2000GT: A Generational Gift

- In this week’s film we head off to the French commune of Annemasse just outside of Switzerland, where we met multiple generations of the Degenève family as they recounted the story of this Toyota 2000GT. The clan operates the oldest Toyota dealer in the country, and at one point Jean-Pierre Degenève owned two of these cars. He was forced to sell them both, but decades later his sons tracked down this white example outside of Tokyo with the help of Toyota. After buying and then hiding the car from their father’s eyes for months, he was finally presented with it on his 70th birthday. That’s gifting tastefully.

Japanese manufacturers had some killer designs in the late 60s/early 70s era, this car is unreasonably good looking.
And definitely not a rip-off of the E-Type, amirite?
But a good rip off,it looks better than the Jag
@@C345OFR E-Type is overrated in terms of looks. It's subpar compared to this
Agreed. The 200oGT i streets ahead of the E-Type in looks. The TA22 Celica is also another beautiful Japanese design.
Like the mazda cosmo the first Mazda car with a rotary engine the 10A
Yamaha had worked on creating the Lexus LFA as well. Clearly a Yamaha-Toyota partnership does wonders.
Also, the 2JZ-GTE engine from the Toyota Supra MK4 was developed with the help of Yamaha.
Yes, it does wonders.
They also jointly developed the 2zz engine found in celica and tsport corolla models. Great engine.
and the mighty 4A-GE engine
And the 3S-GTE.
vedant agarwal
Yep. Yamaha developed a highly sought expertise in light but strong aluminium alloys, castings and very precise machining of high reving engines and transmissions. Still true to this day.
Arguably one of the most beautiful cars ever made.
vedant agarwal Ye this and the Ferrari 330 P4
Sideways G yea the basic shape is similar but then again that Sam body style is present in cars made today as well so you gotta look at the finer details and that's where I think this looks a bit better than the e-type. I'm talking about the e-type coupe, the convertible is probably equal to this in me eyes.
Sideways G Knock off? It does the shape better than the E type does
@Sideways G but it scores extra for pop up headlights.
One of the most beautiful cars ever made!
Actually saw a car video of a FRENCH guy that owns a JAPANESSE car while he speaks in FRENCH with ENGLISH subtitles while i translate in my mind to SPANISH LOL
Mr Worldwide :D

The Toyota 2000GT, the 1960's LFA.
One of the most beautiful cars ever made. Truly a dream machine.
This is my favorite CZcams channel.
It not only shows beautiful drivable Artworks & Craftsmanship.....
.....it also shows the human adoration and the close bond with it.....
One of the most beautiful cars ever made! I've seen one in person before and it's even better.
Hell of a gift.
This car put the world on notice that Japan was capable of building world class automobiles. Though clearly inspired by the XKE it’s never the less the most beautiful Japanese Car of all time
I saw the notification and saw "Toyota 2000GT" and I immediately clicked. This is one of my most favourite cars of all time, and to have it covered by Petrolicious is a dream come true ^_^
That Starlet was looking pretty good as well
It's so beautiful. I just want to hug it, with a completely clean and sterile microfiber suit on in a clean room of course so as not to scratch or tarnish the car in any way shape or form. The Love if feel for this car is maddening sometimes since I know I will never get one. I have too many cars already and couldn't afford one now even if I ever found one that didn't need a full restoration.
This is one car that I have yet to see in the flesh. Hopefully, someday soon...
Great story, great visuals, and a fantastic 2000 GT. I can’t think of a single Petrolicious video I didn’t like for any reason whatsoever. Keep it up team !
Ahhhh...Toyota being the beauties they once were...i hope they could return to their former glory...70s to 90s Toyotas are the Best🇯🇵🇯🇵
Rahul Mandala Honestly Lexus is really bringing that back with the GSF, RCF, LC500 and LCF
It's a new era for Toyota boys, and it's a beautiful one
xxroyalxtigerxx oh yeah, no doubt Lexus is amazing, but Toyota too could use some of that performance treatment like how type r is for Honda, and I know Lexus has the F sport, but Toyota could work in gazoo racing and uptune it
Gorgeous, luscious visuals. A feast for those of us who love beautiful, sporting automobiles.
I've been waiting for this video my whole life. Thank you to the most genuine and well spoken car lovers that actually drive these cars like they were meant to be driven, also thank you petrolicious for supplying us with this amazing content.
As always great cinematography! Great car and wonderful story. Thank you
Truly one of The most beautiful cars ever created.....
Thank you for bringing us the images and story of this wonderful car. Its lines are beautiful-especially from a side and 3/4 rear view.
Finally a Japanese legend!
that is arguably the most beautiful car EVER designed
I'm not crying! Just really humid around my eyes right now.
This has always been my favorite car by a wide margin. I’d love to see one of the videos of this like with the 250gto, where you have raw driving for a few minutes. There’s pretty much no footage of ones driving normally, just unloading, at good wood, or on display. Thank you for another fantastic video, have a great day. :)

Yup, I was referencing that one. The same sort of thing but for the 2000GT
Those cars in his garage had me drooling 😋
Absolutely amazing! What a wonderful story as well.
The first 20 seconds really could have been shortened to like 5 seconds.
And could have used it to specify the spoken language... turned on the captions for nothing.
Considering the amount of whining for not having subs on other videos, I think it's fair.
Blame it on the stupid people that cant use youtube
I knew I would find this comment somewhere lol
I've waited for this car to appear here for such a long time, and I'm not disappointed. Thank you, Petrolicious. I wish for the opportunity and power to seize one of these Japanese moving art pieces every single day.
So rare, so beautiful, so ground-breaking for Japanese cars. It's no wonder these sell for a million a piece nowadays.
😲 you guys topped yourself by finding the greatest Japanese classic car, thank you for sharing this story with us.
Absolutely gorgeous car with a great story behind it. Fantastic video as always.
I was about 10 years old when my dad and I visited Paramus Toyota NJ. He was a Toyota salesman at the time (1981) There was a 2000GT in the showroom with wire wheels in the same color as this car. I actually had a chance to sit inside the car. I remember it being almost the right size for me. That experience has stayed with me all these years later and makes this one of my favorite cars.
Gosh,what a beauty…
I wanna thank to Petrolcious from the bottom of my heart for be a OLD SCHOOL channel!!!
Totally a heart touching story. Another excellent work by Petrolicious.
That KP61 he was working on at the beginning was pretty mint too 👌🏽
The editing, the camera works and the music just mixed together in harmony, I've never seen such video like this just perfectly crafted with care and love. The music are chosen perfectly and carefully to emphasis the story to the point his feelings are tangible and it made me cried inside. Why was this channel hidden from me for years?!
Magnifique voiture, magnifique histoire. Il à de la chance votre père d’être aimé de la sorte.
Un véhicule très rare à garder précieusement.
Car and story were absolutely beautiful. Such an amazing vehicle, #1 in my top 5 dream cars to own.
No bad angle anywhere, simply beautiful,
Great mini Documentary !
This car...gorgeous look, sound and looks so light that I’d believe you if you said Colin Chapman was involved. Dream car. I’ve loved it since I was a kid and it still pulls my heart strings. Thanks for this.
I found this channel today and I'm already in love with every single video
I love Petrolicious videos. As a videographer and classic car enthusiast, I find them beautifully shot and incredibly inspiring.
Que de souvenir...
Je me souviens encore d'être allé vous voir à Annemasse il y a bien longtemps (mon permis à peine en poche) pour decouvrir "en vrai" cette sublime 2000GT rouge. Merci.
Wonderful video! Great car! C’est toujours un plaisir de voir les vidéos de petrolicious! Voir les passionnés d’automobile à travers le monde est un réel plaisir!
Beats the hell out of these other CZcamsr buys dad his dream car videos
Amazing story, amazing car, and amazing effort
Just tease us with their KP and RA's too please. lol
Another awesome film. You have reached the epitome automotive films. Bravo!
I've only seen 1 of these on the road. It was 5 years ago leaving Vantage Motorworks in Miami. What a beautiful classic sports car. I couldn't believe it was cruising down the street next to me!
How beautiful in both vision and story
Wonderful story.
Fascinating car.
The closed caption message at the start was a nice touch, thanks for giving the English speakers a moment to make the switch. It's a small detail, but not surprising that Petrolicious would be aware of making the small detail improvements. Bravo!
Beautiful story!
Magnifique j'en ai eu la larme à l'œil
You guys are incredible sons. Your father is a lucky man.
great car,nice film,well done
wow..pure beauty.
Always loved these.
Just look at that beauty seriously 😍
fantastic car, fantastic story, thank you for sharing :)
absolutely beautiful car
The 2000gt is one of the main reasons I bought a 280z. It was as close as I could afford. Long nose, 2 door with really nice flowing design and of course a stunning sound track.
I gave my father a book for his birthday. Not showing him this video.
it's cool bro. when your father leaves you 100M inheritance you can buy him a 1M gift with his own money
Beautiful car
I just discovered this beautiful car. I'm surprised I haven't heard of it previously as Toyota is one of my favorite car companies and I am obsessed with sports cars and classics. Such a beautiful car and one day I hope I am lucky enough to drive one!
Very nice BJ45 at the beginning!
About time you upload this
Interesting that the father had a Ferrari 365gtb/4 ahead of the Toyota 2000gt. I've always thought this Toyota was the Japanese version of the Daytona (later on the same could be said for the 240z.) For years I've been captivated by the design of this car, especially the pop up headlights along with the front mounted lights in the nose. 5-7 years ago these were the hot item at high end auctions but seem to have cooled a bit lately. Still a fascinating car and fascinating video from Petrolicious.
I’m absolutely obsessed with this car because it’s a Toyota they are just the best so reliable
2000GT is the most beautiful car I ever seen. YAMAHA made most of TOYOTA 2000GT. TOYOTA and YAMAHA are good partner to make good cars.
shiro ichi
You have to love Yamaha
Great motorcycles , grand pianos Audio equipment
Damn that was a great video
such a beautiful car
Wonderful video, but needs more engine sound... the only background music you really need.
Beautiful
Cette video est trés bien! J’adore le Toyota 2000GT!
"Fenomenal" Grat , love it
What a gift to the old man. Trě bon.
Oh oh i live very near i'll have to take a look at this magnificent car in person !
Love that blue 45 series Land Cruiser!
TOYOTA Masterpiece. And the value now...
Amazing.
Magnifique témoignage
The music is a bit too loud. But anyway fantastic story and brilliant camera work as always.
Swapping in a Chevy Crate LS7 would make beautiful Music........... 'MERICA...... F Yeah!
why in the end not showing the father with the car, the story is not completed yet
maybe he didn't like the color
Loved this beauty since it was a bond Car
The Bond car was one of 2 convertibles made. It needed to be a convertible because Sean Connery would not fit in the coupe.
Is so wonderful looking Car 😍😍😍
It's perfect :')
Love the story of why and how they bought it. Such a wonderful-looking car as well... and tiny! I stood next to one a few years ago and felt surprised that an adult might actually fit in one! No wonder they needed to cut the roof off for Sean Connery...
To this day, it remains the most beautiful Japanese car ever made. They nailed this absolutely timeless design.
Easily the most beautiful car of all time.
Awesome car 👍
Such a amazing car. Later becoming the well known Supra. This 2000GT needs more love.
One sold for 3 million. That's love.
@@wannabecarguy No it's called dough
2000gt and 1st gen Celicas are the bestttt
This car really was a milestone for Toyota. They were known for making affordable, reliable cars, but this one showed they were just as capable of making a stunning supercar capable of competing with the traditional Western marques. What a machine....
My Dream Classic Car. Would love one in Bellatrix Yellow
Awesome video! Awesome looking car! I've heard of the Toyota 2000GT, and I've read magazine articles about the sports car, but sadly, I've never seen one in person. It's the best looking Toyota I've ever seen, with the Nissan H150 President a dangerously close 2nd.
Jason Carpp Well the close second isn't even a Toyota so 😁
I agree. I used to love Toyotas of the 60s through to the 80s. Particularly the JDM and Australian market versions.
