    Nice video! I will be headed to Graves Mountain Lodge for a week in April and will hit up the Rapidan, Rose, Robinson, and Hughes River. Last time I fished the Rose and Rapidan and only caught two trout. I remember parking at the exact spot you parked in this video, and I didn't hike up a lot, but I did catch a brown trout a little bit up. This time I hope to hike up further and catch more brookies.

    Nice video! Beautiful place. We are going up for a week at Massanutten in a few weeks, and we spend a lot of time hiking in the SNP. We have hiked the Rose River trail several times. I will spend one day carp fishing the Shenandoah River at the park in Shenandoah, and hopefully get in a morning at the South River in Waynesboro drifting Trout Magnets for rainbows and anything else that will bite. I've had good luck on that river, catching multiple rainbows between about 6" and 15". There are also Brown Trout, Rock Bass, Large and Smallmouth Bass, Crappie, sunfish, Fall Fish, and I even saw a carp cruising through the last time I fished there. I thought your idea on beach balls with the kayak cover was a great one--might try that on my Coleman Crawdad, which is perennially full of spiders after leaning against the fence. Maybe I'll buy a cover and a couple of beach balls for it...

      I really enjoyed fishing the special regulation section on the South River near Waynesboro. I wrote it up in my fishing blog a while back - switchfisher.com/trout-content/virginia-trout-content/augusta/south-river/

      @@KayakhacksFishing LOVE to fish that section, but right now I don't have any fly-fishing gear, so I will have to stick with the Catch and Release section. I can't complain; it's been very good to me!

    Beautiful stream. I’m several years older with several artificial joints so I’m not sure I would want to sneak through that beautiful area. But then, I really like the saltwater fish. But a beautiful Brook trout- with the effort when you can catch one. Of course, trying to catch one is almost as good. Keep on trucking, young man!

    Beautiful scenery. If you check out the Nolichucky and Pigeon Rivers in East TN, there are quite a few trout and some gorgeous places to hike. Some fish are stocked, some are native. There are also numerous places along roadways where the rivers have fish and you can practically fish from your truck (ie near Erwin and Gatlinburg). I've tried casting poppers and flies with spin rods - I'm impressed you got 15' 😂

    Nice video! Your blogs have helped me immensely! I try to chase brookies in the SNP as much as I can. I only fished up to about where you stopped once before and always wondered if you could bushwack back up to the trail, particularly in late spring/summer. The Rose is fickle IMO: beautiful, fishy water but often challenging. I don't know if it gets too much pressure or what. This time last year I fished pretty much the same section as you and only caught 1 little fish.

      @KayakhacksFishing  Před 2 lety

      I fished it a lot when I lived in VA. Only saw other people twice. The fish are there.... lol... I just suck at getting them. We did go above the "cave" once and it is pretty much the same except for more deadfalls across the stream. Granted, that was probably in 2010 and it is certainly different now.

    Nice video! Never caught anything at the cave section. It’s very deep though and I think the big Brookies hide there. Rose has been very hit and miss for me over the years. I tend to always use a dry & dropper nymph now days-just catch a lot more fish that way.

    Do you ever use the traditional sakasa kebari style flies? I tenkara fish similar sized trout streams in Northern New Mexico and find flies like these can out perform classical nymph style flies. In addition, you can fish these as dry or wet flies by modifying your casting technique.

      That would really be sad. I know the lower Rose is stocked and it is appropriate to harvest... but, up in the Park - no. Geez, a large fish there is 7 inches.

      I’ve only ever seen fly fisherman there and they aren’t keeping the fish. Locals fish the section near graves mountain and the stocked section. I really doubt too many of them are hiking a mile or two up the trail to catch little brookies.

      I had to take it off the market when private a hunt club shut down access to the Confluence at the end of Richards Ferry Road. Without the Confluence, there are only a few other good spots. You can get a free PDF copy if you want - recognize the age of the book - at this link from my Dropbox (I will remove the file in a bit) www.dropbox.com/s/u7jsk831arzkp1h/Wade%20Fishing%20the%20Rappahannock%20Final%2001-24-2015%20-%20Catchguide%20series%20-%20Reduced.pdf?dl=0
