- Join me as I look at this 2010 GMC Savana Cutaway Van with a 10 foot Morgan Mini Mover box. This is a retired U Haul rental van. 131,000 miles 4.8L V8. Very happy with the purchase. Personal opinion:
I'd close off the rear door entirely and put in an exit window from a rear engine school bus. I'd open up the pass through from the cab, put the bed across the back, galley along the drivers side and put in a passenger side entry door. You'd still have enough room for a small dinette or even a standup shower.

I work for an air conditioning company and we have a whole Fleet of these.
I am seeing these 10 ft GMC box trucks getting well over 450,000 miles with no major problems.
Right now I have a 2011 with 240,000. Still runs and drives great.

Your extremely lucky,at Uhaul we dump them at 150,000 or less as they all have head problems,never seen any with 450,000 maybe 200 tops.

A step van gives you more space for the same sized truck. The cab becomes a part of the overall living space and what was a passenger space is your main entrance, same as a bus. However, the ride comfort is way worse and lower ground clearance. For the way your live, this is the right choice. Everything is a trade-off. Good luck!

Having owned and driven these trucks for hundreds of thousands of miles the 6.0 liter in this is the best choice. The sprinters with the diesels stay away from. This is exiting and I'm glad for you. Great choice.

Being able to stand up and walk around inside is such a big plus. I have a bad back and knees and can't be bent over all the time. I had an old step van with a 10ft box I worked and traveled out of for years. Several motor homes, Class A and C. Now an older model Ford/Coachmen Class B. Best of luck with it, I think you'll love it. She's cute....Kelly and the truck.

Congratulations! I just bought a 2009 model of this exact van back in October. It's been a slow build in the Oklahoma winter, but I love starting with a clean slate. I bought all terrain tires, spare wheel, and some jacks. It was super easy to buy at the u-haul shop and the employee that I worked with had never sold one. She called the sales office, they walked her through the process and I talked them down $2000 and I bought it! Easy Peasy. I did run in to a slight hitch with insurance because it is considered a commercial truck and State Farm had to get an ok from the underwriters. Three weeks later I'm insured. I've only taken it on a few local road trips,, (longest one was 380 miles round trip) Runs great, stops great! Be shure and check all the tires I noticed all the trucks including mine had mismatched and out of date ones.
After Kelly's 411 of the bartering going on, a little wait...and you coming out with the truck papers, I actually let out a victory shout "Yes! Right on!!" "He got the truck"!😂 😂 Congrats on the new dwelling! looking forward to the build. ☮️❤️🕉️

Brian, Deb and I are so happy for you. The engine in your new van is awesome. We have a 2004 Chevy Express 2500 6.0 with over 230,000 miles on it and it's still going strong. It's our tow vehicle for our cargo trailer conversion. We're currently in Florida ourselves. In fact, we kayaked the same river you guys did on January 21st. You guys stay safe and happy travels to you both. You're one of our favorite van lifer channels.

Morgan is a good built box. Im a truck mechanic and those are built to last. excited for this new journey!
In Michigan all I had to do was get was the Chauffer's endorsement on my license to drive my company's box truck with a lift gate. It's bigger than Brian's.
All it took was a small fee and a test with less than 15-20 questions. I literally studied the pamphlet while waiting to take the test and passed.
A guy next to me who was taking the test failed and when he went up to the counter afterwards the DMV/SOS lady offered to let him take the test again.
Box is the way to go. Pure space monster. Great/cheap chassis. Perfect tiny home.
