- Hello lovely people,
Some of you joined us yesterday when I attempted to host a live stream taking part in steaming up my collection of Mamod and Wilesco Steam engines to join thousands of others doing the same thing all across the UK.
The stream did not go well - so I present here how it should have been!
If you want to see the wonderful event in all it's glory on Facebook the link is here: / 1619849804831945
A video featuring:
Lawrie - on his own and trying not to burn down the garden with live steam.
A video edited by Lawrie.

This has to be a first in lmm history, 5 engines of any description running in one video.
Normally you struggle to get one engine going!
Great video.
And 6 working engines all in one video!
My grandad has a couple of large ish traction engines and one farm steam engine on display that are still in working conditions
I hate that and wish he would start them once in a while...so it makes me happy when I see people like you who look after them properly and run them every now and again like they should be!!!! :)
Good video, stay safe
Fin
Yes would definitely like to see more mini steam!
Something truly wonderful about getting them going together - after Saturday have decided the plural term for more than one Mamod in steam should be 'a Thrum' - as they do make rather a glorious noise. Brilliant to see yours going too, all a tremendous amount of fun. Best wishes from Kes.
Get a min blow torch... They are great for lighting solid fuel and other hard to reach burners
I have six Mamods that I bought as a box of bits at an antique fair. I could see from the contents that there were several complete sets of bits. I re-built them all, the only parts I replaced were a couple of safety valves and a couple of steam pipes that were badly bent. They all run!
Lawrie, I would love to see more in depth video on the engines, not only that but doing this in a seperate video rather then Live Stream has provided better video quality which has made the video better :)
I absolutely love your collection of miniature steam engines. Even though the Wilesco runs really smooth there's nothing that beats British steam.
Love your tee shirt! Wonderful collection of steam.
Love this Steam Engine Models , great fun .
A absolutely fantastic video. I collect little models like those. Keep up the good work
I'm always so impressed when I see these running because the miniscule dimensions of the engineering is amazing to me and how it works so well. The two green ones seemed to be in competition to see who could blow up first 😂
Love it! I did the same yesterday, with my Mamod traction engine, steam roller and Willesco steam roller.
Super idea, what fun. I had the mid size stationary engine as a kid, always wanted the traction engine but alas had to wait till being an adult. Get mine driving around in circles on my decking!
I have a Mamod (the one you have with the black box but with a canopy) they are fun little tractors. Its always bothered me how fast it runs though. I havent heard of the Wilesco before but now im shopping for one. Love the idle speed and love the chain steering! one thing ive always wanted to make a little sawmill for my mamod using a dremel wood cutting saw, figured that would be a good fit for the mamod and give it something to do with all that rpm
I would really enjoy watching videos of you working with your steam collection.
keep up the good stuff coming :) great channel and very helpful and down to earth team ! a rare quality this day in age on youtube !
Would love to see more videos on them
Out of view is Jupiter ready just encase of a fire.
I think you should get one of the Mamod steam trains as they look brilliant and sound great plus they can be operated outdoors.
Wow, I did that as well, got both of my TE1As running as well as the MM1.
Much better this time,. Great job, keep them coming 👍
Love miniature steam engines, used to do first aid cover at some steam rallys and loved the miniature traction engines and steam lorries that used to rocket around the place, Also became a big fan of a full size Canadian traction engine called moose lol might be an idea for when lockdown is over is a few videos on ride on miniature steam engines 😁😁 nice to see your collection though, Might get one myself 😁😁
In the future you should put a drop of methylated spirits or lighter fluid onto the tablets. It makes lighting the tablets a lot easier
you can use BBQ lighter gel too or cut them up slightly
These are fascinating.
I've got a Mamod TE1A I'd love to run one day: but at the same time, it was just a mantle display piece for my stepdad's father, and he threw all the other stuff for it away. since he passed (and he was my stepdad's last living parent) I feel like it wouldn't be right to run the thing--it's literally still factory fresh.
love me some steam
Wilesco is the best with a dual-action machine and actually also runs well
It's a really good engine
They look very nice :) I recently saw a video on another channel, they restored one of those Mamod SE1s, I didn't know what it was until I saw yours
this video is better than yesterdays one i love this looks good fun would like to see more stuff like this
I worked for G Model Shop for roughly about 6 to 7 years in between being in the military and I can tell you right off the bat at first we were selling those engines but when I came back from the military they stopped selling them all together there’s something about too dangerous exploding in kids get burnt ! They always find excuse to eliminate our fun ! Later I found out that these engines were also made by Mike’s Train house During the small brief period that he was working with Lionel but they were electrical another words they ran off the transformers from the trench but in the same idea ! As a vintage and antique collector of models and toys I can tell you right off the bat you’re practically impossible to fine ! And if you do find one you’re going to have to pay an arm and a leg ! 🌊🐺
Lawrie nice job there are some great mini steam engines there
good on you for having another go .. anyone know roughly how old are all on these engines ??
I love my TE1A but lighting a candle holder load of paraffin, and coaxing it under boiler, is less then ideal lol
I reckon you should deffo do a review of the Wilesco in the same style you do your full size reviews. With the camera angles making it look like a full size...
I have a wilesco d40 Massey Ferguson edition which still runs
LMM does the Twitter Steam Rally - What our first stream should have been! love louis shirley
haha nice work getting all those going, shame you couldnt get the live stream working as it would have definatly been a good watch but, sods law! I was also supposed to be steaming my 5inch gauge ker stuart wren up but other things came up so didnt have time to do it unfortunatly
i have a wilesco vertical boiler, vertical engine stationary and it will rev super fast or smoothly slow they are far in advance of mamods.
"Check Out the Twitter steam really on Facebook" wait there is something not quite adding up
It's on Facebook, but you're limited to 140 characters.
Hooray! The table wasn't lit on fire this time ;)
Lawrie's Herding Mechanical Cats.
I see you have a generator on that D40. Mine does not have that. Did that come with the generator like the D409, if not, how did you manage to mount it? What do you power with it? I have never seen a D40 with a generator!
I have Mamods and Wilesco's that I usually run on compressed air, I call airdrive, because it takes around ten minutes to build up a head of steam then runs about seven minutes, but with airdrive, I can get them running instantly and can ruin them for half a hour! I could run more but I don't want to run out the oil.
Happy steaming!
*wow* this is really Cool them all running
It was really quite good fun
Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels I bet 😁
How cool are they 😃
They're super fun
Nice vid
Well, I have a few model steam engines also, but only light one at a time, because if I would light all of them, it would be stressy. But I love to be lazy when I can so...I light one at a time.
I'd have some sort of a blow torch and gloves.... sorted!
the wilesco is gorgeous
The 2 cylinder is a SE3
Yes you're right, my bad
I have a modern version of your wilesco tractor. need to try fire her up again sometime
1:13 "try not to set fire to the table again"
Do tell.
What was the name of the blue one?
Do you restore these Lawrie ?
how much does one of these cost
I need your shirt
"You little...little scamp"
So sad you didn't set anything alight in this video the end of the live stream was so funny and so something that would happen to you
my te1 ran better on meths than it does on the solid fuel. runs well but needs to be on the level to move with the trailer on the back full of oil and fuel and funnels and cloths. Did the annual check 2 weeks ago and still works well even though 50+ Years old
That's pretty good. They're nice little things
I did not know that you was interested in Mamod engines
Oh yes, lovely things
@@lmm its a nice change from the other steamers you have test driven in the past
eBay best place for replacement safety valves
The engine you said is a SE1 it isn’t a SE1 it is a SP2. A SE1 is like the horizontal mamod you have that has two cylinders except the SE1 only has 1 cylinder
I get very confused with how they named engines.
I think you're right though
Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels that’s ok. The main thing we need to know is that it is a steam engine! 😂
Its pernounsed mamond
