  • Keasden road is located on the Lancashire and Yorkshire border high up in the hills around Bowland Knotts. It is close to Gisburn forest in Lancashire and Ingleton in North Yorkshire and is probably one of the finest descents in the area to ride your bike down. This is part two of the descent and I hope it gives you an insight into cycling down this fantastic remote little road. Caution: it can be very fast in places !

“Squeaky bum” time Daz, “Squeaky bum” time as that massive truck passed 😂😂😂
The ride and view made all the better by the dry weather and picture perfect clouds, oh and the fantastic sound of those tyres on the tarmac.
    Can’t beat it. 😎👍

I can become particularly sensory when it comes to the sound of the tyres on the tarmac and a purring bicycle chain.
The truck came at the right time for me as there was a slight incline there and I had naturally slowed down.
BTW I hope you are on the mend too and working towards your recovery, all the best, Darren

      Thank you Darren.
I’m currently doing about a 30 mile ride once per week just taking my time and stopping frequently and admiring the views. I’m following some of your rides but obviously much shorter but still wonderful to do and totally enjoyable especially since seeing your rides on the Yorkshire dales, and if you hadn’t posted them I would not have known how wonderful the dales and Ribble valley truly are.
Again Darren, your efforts are never wasted in inspiring folk and as long as I keep taking the tablets and riding my bike I’m sure my heart will hold out till I’m 101 😂😂

      That is great to hear.
They used to talk about having a dog as being an important part of a person's recovery, simply stroking a pet and feeling good about it and the companionship they offer you was almost like a therapy towards a better well-being.
I guess in our case, the cycling and the scenery along with the post ride "Highs" you get from the endorphins kicking in makes it a win win.
Here's to the next half a century 🚴‍♀️👍

    Good climb that nice .
So an update we did it we completed our 1st coast to coast on Tuesday !! Just . It was a long day but there was some brilliant country quiet back roads & the climbs was not that bad . Friend had a mechanical & a local bike shop kindly came out to middle of nowhere to fix his bike !! Trickiest part was keeping track of the cycle way through Newcastle and beyond . Was not hot thank god but we had rain !! Actual ride time 6h20m 4000ft up, had head wind all day so probably added near hour on . Had the best fish n chips and a pint at tynmouth & held the bike aloft in front of the N72 bouy

Congratulations on completing your challenge. I am well chuffed for ya.
The elevation gained seemed reasonable enough and yes the wind has been from the East all week so it would have made the trip all that bit more of a challenge.
I did Blackpool to Scarbourough with a tailwind and averaged just shy of 20mph for 140 miles a few years ago.
Have you got the taste for another one ?
The Way of the Roses is fantastic 👍

@@MrDazP1adv3ntures ah yes thanks for the reply , so with the head wind all the way probably added nearly an hour on & it was cold at times with cloudy cover all day however as I forgot sun cream it wasn’t so bad as was also concerned about getting too hot if it did but only highs of 14oC !! And near the finish we saw drizzle 🌧️. Yeah I remember that one you did I watched it again the other day you had a good pace run , well I should do the way of roses as I love one line from the start lol , before that I’ll do barrow and back so get the train there then peddle back around the coast to the half moon bay cafe before closing .

I have looked at a few other offerings, such as starting somewhere near Preston at the Ribble (Tickle trout) and going to the Humber.
      Estuary to estuary.
You don't want it too hot either as it slowly catches up on you and then the fatigue can really set in.
Have you thought about joining the 200 mile club. I have done a few and with a reasonably flat route you can keep the average pretty high.

    • @MrDazP1adv3ntures

It is a cracker Mark, the middle section where it rises is a bit of a leg burner but then this section is super straight and fast. I had to stop in between part one and part two to let a delivery van leave a farm. I could see it going down the track and we would have met at the same time

    • @revieboy
      @revieboy Před rokem +1

@@MrDazP1adv3ntures yes, you'd need a good tailwind to get you over that rise.

It isn't that steep Cwil but it's enough for gravity to do the work for you. Some of the quicker riders can hit over 55mph down here 😬

WOW that truck was very close was it allowed on such a road ? those are like bog roads over here heavy trucks not allowed cars only they place a metal bridge over those roads TG loved your descent flying without wings thank you PS. my third racing bike was called a Richmond Pennine 73 * x 73* 22.5" oscar egg lugs Reynolds tubing 653 i think campag 2 x 5 later on by 6 i miss that steed Keep safe mate.

Great road this David and the truck was going to a cattle farm just off to the side but I had to use my whiskers to sneak through.
That bike sounds like a cracker, you don't see many 653 frames these days.
I love watching restoration videos from this period
