  • Returning with a follow up review for the On Rope Descent Bag after a year of use!
In this review I have a look at how well the bag has held up and my surprise that what I felt would possible fail, never did. I feel confident that I can get another year of 'normal' use out of this bag. By 'normal', I mean that I'm not giving this bag a torture test but am using it how I would use any bag while descending a canyon.
Noticing how much space different diameter ropes take up in the bag while stuffed (9mm vs 9.2mm) during a recent canyoneering trip, I highlight just how much rope I can stuff in this bag during this review.
The final tally for 9mm rope (Sterling) was right around 250ft stuffed.
The final tally for 9.2mm rope (Imlay) was right around 230ft stuffed.
These were simply my personal findings and assessments and shouldn't be held to a professional level..your miles may vary with this bag.
Still quite happy with the purchase of this bag ($60 to $65) and like I mentioned above, hope to get another year of use from it.

I'm currently looking for a pack for lead rope soloing, so this was pretty interesting for me. I decided to do a bit of research into this bag as a benchmark. On their site they claim it can hold 220' of 9.2mm rope or 300' of 8.0mm rope, but obviously they low balled the numbers a bit since you were able to get 230' or so of 9.2mm rope in it. (that or maybe they used a brand new rope as a bench mark) They say the bag is 9"x14" which comes out to be a volume of 890 cubic inches or around 14.5 liters, so that leads me to believe I'll probably just barely be able to fit my 60m 9.8mm climbing rope in a 18-20 liter bag. Breaking it down a bit further, you'll probably be able to fit around 15-16' of 9.2mm rope or around 20-21' of 8mm rope per liter if you want to generalize to other rope bags.
Anyway, thank you for the very informative review :)
