Making a catapult - handmade catapult - making a catapult from wood
Hi all, welcome to a another video.
In this video I decided I was going to carve a natural catapult (natty) from a fallen beech tree in our local woodland.
I take you through the process of making this catapult step by step.
A catapult is a great survival tool and Bushcraft essential, great for hunting small game (please do not hunt if until you are competent with a sling shot)

Mentions axe safety... Then proceeded to use his axe barefoot, followed by carving directly towards his own sternum. Lol you had me so nervous that whole time bro. The final result was sick though.
😂 if I wasn’t being safe with the axe, yep cold have lost a toe 😆 but the cuts towards me we’re definitely safe, elbow firmly locked into obliques so no risk of performing surgery on myself 😅
I was really pleased how this came out, it shot really well too... makes me want to do another! 🤔

I'm not in. Although that is very generous of you I believe it is better to give than receive. I sub to way too many channels and unfortunately am not able to keep up with everyone, over 180 channels.
This video is excellent man! I like the point about using a piece with a natural Y. That thing shoots dead on!

Excellent handmade product. what is the effective range of this catapult?

Great video thanks for showing us some wood carving things I have two large size forks I've harvested one I carved dries and banded already the other is beautiful white oak I've lightly sanded it before major carving work and the forks are not a perfect V so I can't do a template outline etc so I plan to hand eye alone freestyle carve it but as it stands now it's so nice looking it feels smooth just like ivory you will mistake it for ivory easily.
I don't know what to do with it so now I'm looking at videos to get ideas came across this one so thanks so much for this video stay blessed

@@AshOutdoorsUK my last handle was almost the same as yours, quite comfy, maybe took too much out the tips but couldnt get the bands to stay on for more than 8-10 shots. Practice makes perfect i suppose 👍

When your target shooting in the wood like in this video do you use steel bbs or do you use light clay ball ammo? If you use steel bbs do you catch them to use again or do you not use a ammo backstop catcher such as a sheet or a towel etc..the reason I don't want to shoot in the woods much is because I do t want to waste and loose my bb ammo so I will always use a ammo stopper and pick up the ammo when I done if I used clay ammo I'd always only put on weak bands matched for the clay ammo etc
Hi mate, I usually just practice at home in a catch box. Always use steel, never even shit clay before. I’d usually hang a sheet in the woods but only shot a few off for the purpose of this video.
It was a cracking little frame. A bit gutted I gave it away in the end! Lol
i have a question SOOO the oil is to prevent cracks while the slingshot dries or for looks
Yes, mainly to treat the wood, the shine fades over time but you could varnish if you wanted the shiny look

Hi there i just wanted to ask you if you have the same problem with me and how can I fix it. For some reason my bands are breaking in the place that the bands are meeting the wooden frame.
Make sure the wood is well rounded over where the bands go over the forks.
What kind of band do you use or recommend? Brand names? Thanks in advance
If you put green wood in the microwave for a few minutes you don’t Need to wait months for it drying out
