- How to Make Wired CarPlay, wireless CarPlay. I added wireless CarPlay to my 2019 Golf. Installing a wireless CarPlay adapter is as simple as plugging it into the wired CarPlay port. You can ditch the worn out apple cord, and go WIRELESS.

After several tests of this unit, it works awesome! It started to pair much faster after the first pair. Hopefully long term it holds up as well. I tested music and audio books both worked PERFECT!!!
Think it will work with 2017 Passat version? My name is really Chuck the Chazz thing to be of works radar lol
I'm definitely tempted to pick one up. Have you tried pairing a 2nd phone to see how it handles it if you're both in the car?
I haven’t. I’ll try my wife’s phone. My guess is you’ll be able to pick. I’ll try tomorrow
@@HumbleMechanic installed a wireless charger in my 2017 q7 prestige. It fits well and charges really fast! It was made specifically to fit my car right under the armrest. Install was a breeze as well. Good luck!
Nice
I got the Carlinkit 2.0 dongle for my Golf R 2017. It works like a charm. Activate when ever you want to send a message, play music, play Audiobook, Waze & Google map work like I'm plugging my phone. All I noticed is the 2 seconds delay when you play music, audiobook or playing vice message in iMessage. I had experimental yesterday, I went to a Volkswagen dealer, to check the new Gold GTI and to check the wireless charger & the wireless CarPlay, I was impressed by the Wireless CarPlay performance, no delay at all.
I bought this unit last week for my 2018 Tiguan and installed it over the weekend. IT'S SPECTACULAR. Installation is simple (like seconds) and it works great. Seamlessly.. is the correct term. My unit connects much quicker than the one in the video (5- 15 seconds) THANK YOU... Can't wait for wireless charging : )
Have you experienced and lag or other issues?
@@N44876 the first unit I bought worked well, but not flawlessly, since then there have been many improvements.. and they’re pretty flawless
@@JohnMaffa which one do you have? I heard Carlin jt is good
@@N44876 This is the one I had. It was great with just one driver and one phone, it got a little confused when you had 2 phones. This is the updated version of the one that I got on Amazon. There's a $40 coupon on Amazon as well.
(2023 Wireless CarPlay Adapter CarlinKit 3.0 for Factory Wired CarPlay Cars Model Year: 2016 to 2018, for VW Audi Ford Sync 3 Mazda Mercedes Honda Chevy Subaru Porsche Hyundai Kia Lexus Gmc Acura) This is the updated one that I got on Amazon, there's a $40 coupon...
I bought one of these for my 2018 F150 and it works great. After we sold off my wife's 2018 MINI Countryman S All4 (that already was equipped with wireless CarPlay) and acquired a 2020 Acura RDX, I got another one for that. It works well, but not quite as great as it does in the F150. Still, it sure beats having that damnable cord hanging out. Well worth the 100 or so bucks!
Got mine from Amazon and hooked up, so far very happy-pairing was a breeze and the thing actually works as advertised-2019 Audi Q7
What they call it ?
Happy plugging it in. Connection is 100% reliable and Wireless charging takes forever.
It works pretty good. I have one too. It sometimes has very annoying hiccups and needs unplugged and plugged back in which comes w the long connect time.
I have had a similar one in my car for about 3 years. I love it.
i've seen these about on ebay but this is the first video ive seen where its actually demonstrated
glad they do work, i'll be ordering one!
Love these short how tos! Love the hour long stuff too!
Great video nice work sir
Got the same one for my MK7 GTI and it has worked great.
I've got a Bluetooth mod for my old 01 saab that works flawlessly for playing music also got a small nfc pad that I tap my phone on to connect it. Gets connected in maybe 5-6 seconds, it's wonderful for playing music which is all I need and it lets me skip songs using the original steering wheel buttons
Very nice! - thank you for heads up on this , i've got the discover pro in my mk7.5 so this is gonna be a nice upgrade.
I'm working on a carplay Android auto Mazdaspeed 6 solution and this is going to be a great addition to the packages I offer thank you for informing me that this exists!
Also I feel like this video was way too short HAHA but it was as long as it needed to be. Who is up for adding wireless charging now??? :)
Do you think that can make your 2.0t make Wookiee noises?
No. :( I haven’t heard many exhausts I love the sound of on mk7
@@HumbleMechanic oh, I thought that is why you were listening to star wars at the end.
I was. Hahah no chewy in that one
Yes to this! I spent ages researching, and VW do have a genuine charging cubby that replaces the current one. What’s the wireless CarPlay like when trying to interact with the stuff? I heard it can take a long time to register inputs to the phone
I'm grateful my old 1988 BMWs have 1din radios with Bluetooth and DAB radio that just connects by itself with no issues, infotainment systems are a pain in the butt.
THANK YOU, I"VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS!!!!!
we have the previous version in our Ram 3500 and it works great!
I love the simplicity of no wires, its a beautiful thing. How hard would it be on a 2015 MK7 GTI upgrade from a MIB1 to a MIB2 unit to simplify some of those connections? Awesome video as always!
I have a better idea then that
You beauty. Having just bought a Mk7. 5 Golf R I've been wondering if I can get my android auto to work wirelessly. I retrofitted wireless AA in my 2012 M135i so I'm glad I won't be missing this option for long. Cheers Charles.
Thanks just ordered for my 2020 GTI.
I bought the same one and it works great! Even before I found this.
will this work with Seat ibiza 2019?
Great audiobook choice.
This is super cool . I’m going to get one for my 18 fit .
Have one... works awesome. Wireless charging is the perfect pair, have that happening in my car as well.
Hell yes. With this and if you tackle wireless charging I’ll literally never to move on to mk8s and just keep mk7s forever
I loved your video and you timing it too helped.
Nice flex with that rear door unlock !
Just bought the exact same item and a wireless charger for my 2017 golf r estate in the uk. Not fitted it all yet. Looking forward to the video about the fitting the wireless charger
Epic post, just what I need
this video was very helpful for my car
I just installed wireless charging on my MY19.
2 cables to the head unit, 12v constant, ground and a cable to the BCM (CAN BE IGNORED)
2 changes in the car coding to tell the car you've installed the charging pad and to show notifications on the screen. Simples!
It works well, just a bit out of audio/video sync for CZcams videos. My iPhone battery health is already down to 90% due to the constant plugging/unplugging so this should help.
That's an excellent solution! I wanted to have that feature installed on my SUV but the option available involved taking apart the dashboard and unsightly wires would still be visible.
Does this work with android phone
@@joedandrea3707 Can't say for sure since I use an iPhone.
Yeah, got such a thing on my A5. I can tell you it doesn't like cold weather ^^
I’d love to get this for my work truck.
*Excellent video. And the beard is coming in nicely.*
Thanks. :)
Good stuff Charles:):)
A wireless upgrade would be nice. I rent cars a lot and like it when that is available, especially with wireless charging.
My main issue with my 2020 GTI is that my phone very often disconnects. Dealer will be replacing the USB port soon. Hope that fixes the issue
So convenient, def gonna get myself one….hopefully it’s not an issue here in South Africa
when you add inductive charging make sure your phone fits well otherwise it moves around while driving and you get an error on the infotainment constantly.
Hi, good review. How about sound quality, did u properly test it?
This would be super handy in new Crosstrek, because the little cubbyhole in front of the shifter isn’t really large enough for my iPhone.
I have the CPLAY2air version of this in both my VWs
Well done 👍🏽
I bought a Treaslin dongle off eBay for £18 and it works perfect 15 to 20 second boot up
THANK YOU VERY MUCH 😁
Nice set up. Just wish it was a little but less expensive. Maybe put it on my wish list.
Great video and I have a 2015 golf sportswagen. What do you think of doing a mib 1 to mib 2 or 2.5 conversion. I would like car play and android auto. And I wish had easier solution for 2016 Touareg also.
I was with you until I heard the price haha. I have a quad lock mount in the car and considered updating the head to the wireless one but that would lose car play and this extra cost is just a cost too far. I guess I’ll just have to keep plugging the cable in :-)
Installed the CPlay2Air on MY19R on Christmas Day 2020 and have enjoyed it since day 1, no issues lag or loss of quality and I'm super picky (Have had one to two times where it wouldn't connect but super rare and required unplugging it and back in)... Glad to see its loading faster after several times using... Upon watching the video I thought it appeared slower to launch for sure by double mine.
I have CPlay2Air on my Mk7.5 R and it is slower than the hard connection. It's worth not having to plug my phone in though. Sometimes it won't connect and I have to nudge the USB connector, but still better than plugging in. I agree with Charles that wireless charging is next upgrade.
I’ve been using this for nearly a year in my 7.5 R
In the UK. Brilliant bit of kit. Can be a bit slow connecting if your phone is still within range of your home wifi. 👍
Installed a new Radio in my mk5 recently. Been looking for a wireless solution like that.
Great vid man
I’ve had one in each vw for over a year now. Looks like Chinese crap, but they release firmware updates often and it holds up from my experience. I recommend it.
I only have a CD player from 2003, that won't read most CDs and is limited to FM radio in a country that made the full switch to DAB+ a few years ago...
I really have to get a new radio on my old Jetta...
are there any noticeable delays when using the buttons on the steering wheel? (Skip forward/backward for example)
wondering the same here!
I retrofit the 9.2" Discover Pro from the e-Golf to my Golf R last year. What annoys me, is that this system has the functionality for wireless carplay (since it has both wifi and bluetooth), but VW didn't bother enabling the feature. Hate having to plug it in.
Would love to see that retro fit!
At least you don't have to mess with the cable now. Yes, charging would be nice!
just ordered one for my 2022 Honda CRV
Ordered mine and works great. Thanks!! I guess since you made me spend $117. Lol
I was super excited and I thought I could do this with my aftermarket KENWOOD unit. But then you pulled up the price and I immediately went. Ok no, I’m sticking with the cable for now.
Yeah $130 to not deal with a cable fuck that bullshit!
I love that it being plugged in did both features you want.... yet we make it more complicated because we want wireless 🤣 I'm the same way
Hahah yeah.
Subtle flex with the rear door kessy door unlock.
Thanks for getting my HomePod to try and text Meghan at VW.
I use BT in my RS3 and rarely use CarPlay but I notice that sometimes by BT doesn't pair half the time and I have to manually do it.. guess I should get a wireless CarPlay adapter
Thanks for your video. I purchased the same Carlinkit as you. I have a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy which is on the approved list on Carlinkit website. It works fine however when I look at my iphone 12 it shows my Santa Fe is not connected as well as the Carlinkit. Any suggestions?
This Dongle works great in my 2019 CR-V . I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max iOS 15.1 operating system. Apple Maps, Google Maps work great. I get my messages & I can respond vis voice.
Great work as usual. I have a similar device, and our biggest challenge is that my wife and I both use the car, and since we are both 'synced' to the wireless device, it will disconnect all the time when both our phones are in the car. Have you noticed a similar problem?
@Ivan Robertson.There is one method.
you can try Delete a paired Bluetooth name in the settings.or turn off your phone bluetooth .which the device may connect normal
I came to the comments to ask about this exact scenario. Have you found a working solution?
❤❤❤❤ thank you so much
Will this work in my in 1985 Hyundai Excel? I probably will need the version that connects with the cassette player.
I’m curious if this will work or pair with 2015 Infiniti Q50 ? I will be appreciated for an update thanks.
My pet peeve with wired CarPlay is the fact I have a wireless charger in the car but have to plugging while CarPlay this looks like a great solution
Oh that’s silly it works that way.
with you on the wired charging & CarPlay. It charges your phone a lot faster than wireless. So when you plug a phone in to charge, what happens with CarPlay? Does it take over the wireless CarPlay connection or leave it connected & it just charges the phone?
I have both wireless charging & usb charging in my 2016 A4, with CarPlay & I would like the option for wireless CarPlay - but it would be annoying if you end up dropping connection to the wireless CarPlay when trying to charge another phone via usb 🧐
Great! Dumb question do you know if this device will work on an Audi Q5?
Which adaptor would you need for a 2011 scirocco?
I did this using an old LG V30 I had laying around. Only problem is it only charges when you are driving do it eventually goes dead after a week or two. Take it out and recharge it and you're back in business. I connect to it with my Hotspot. I have unlimited t-mobile data plan. Works great.
Bummer, I was hoping it would work with my Pioneer Head Unit I added to my 2003 Suburban. Maybe I will look around for other options to do this. There has to be. 8-) I also don't like hooking up my cable every time as my iPhone connector wore out in the phone.
Hi humble is there anyway to retrofit or upgrade the software to the '21 model? My friends '21 Golf has wireless android auto and my '19 GTI doesn't. Safe to say Im a wee bit jealous.
How about adding CarPlay to the MIB1 system?
Would a small usb Bluetooth wireless adapter also work? I don’t want the big block hanging on my USB port
Waiting on fire . To see the wirless charging upgrade . Iam just thinking for doing those 2 upgrades
I have a 2015 GTI S model which has the stupid media connection..is there a way to change that to a USB? I do have an adaptor cable but charging is ultra slow and doesn’t connect directly to the radio.
Although I would say a radio upgrade would be good too.
Does this transmit music via Bluetooth? Question is will you get equalizer presets from iPhone on music listening since wired CarPlay ignores them…
@HumbleMechanic
Is this for after market screens?
I sure hope your wireless charger works better than the Qi ones that come in most cars like my Palisade. That thing charges slower than a snail on quaaludes!
I have wireless CarPlay on both my Fords and it is quirky on both vehicles.
Hola, el problema que tengo es que los puertos USB del mi VW siempre se quedan con corriente si hay algo conectado, y claro el carplay inalámbrico siempre está activado. Se puede configurar para que cuando se apague el Discover se apaguen los usb?
Gracias
Great video. But like you I like to have my iPhone charging. Can it be charged by plugging it in the back of the wireless box? Thanks
No there is no provision. What I do is around town I use wireless and when I drive for long time I take the box out and plug in
Oh man. The drive thru comment is me 😂
One caveat to these systems is that they tend to give you issues when there is a new IOS update. From my experience you have to update the wireless receivers firmware each time as well. Not the end of the world but if you are someone that updates IOS right away, expect some wait times for the company to catch up. (this experience was with a different brand but I think most of these work the same way)
Awesome advice
how are you suppose to update the firmware when you can't connect to the device due to an iOS update?
@@johnpapadopoulos4333 I would assume you plug it into a computer with usb
That would mean I'd have to pull the headunit out every time there's an IOS update, bummer
@@HumbleMechanic have you noticed any LAGGING at all
hey i have a question! i just purchased a Boss Bvcp9700a released in 2020 with wired apple car play, will any of these adapters work to make it wireless? please let me know!
Can you recommend wireless dongle that works on 2019 nissan Murano s
How is the sound quality? I’ve used similar devices that connect through Bluetooth and it sounds muffled.
Hi Charles can u please help me. I think alot of viewers with vw polo's with stock headunits have this problem. Can u please tell us how we can update the stereo. I have a obdeleven pro version and it states that there is a new software available but im unable to update it from the obd. Do u no of any websites maybe that we can download the software. Your help will be much appreciated.
Hey Charles, I just got the Ottocast wireless CarPlay and I noticed the USB still has power even after the car is off, do you know how to make USB not have constant 12V?
LOL, Megan is like ... how many times did you ask me this week already :P.
Hahhaha you should see my mk8 FB group it’s crazy
If it’s anything like the carplay2air it will pack up after a few months. or keep dropping conmection
Oooo Dunkin’ Donuts!!
