Fastest Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto Adapters 2023 MSXTTLY Dongle Review

  • In this video, I check out both MSXTTLY Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto Adapters. You can currently buy the U2C-Air Wireless CarPlay Adapter for $61.59 from Amazon US 👉🏻 amzn.to/46uOqSO, for £55.99 from Amazon UK 👉🏻 amzn.to/40OeQhf, and for €59.49 from Amazon DE 👉🏻 amzn.to/47PIjK0.
    You can currently buy the U2A-Air Wireless Android Auto Adapter for $63.99 from Amazon US 👉🏻 amzn.to/3R8DXYJ, for £47.99 from Amazon UK 👉🏻 amzn.to/49NfoI9, and for €59.49 from Amazon DE 👉🏻 amzn.to/3RceDRF.
    These adapters are both near identical on the outside as well as the accessories that come with them. They are smaller, USB drive-size adapters with the ability to directly plug them in and they also come with various USB cable extensions. They simply offer a wireless connection to either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
    I was pleasantly surprised with how both of these dongles performed. I like their simple plug-in size and form factor, which just fits in my VW Golf CarPlay USB port, and there are plenty of extension cables that come bundled if you encounter problems fitting the adapter directly into the car’s USB port.
    Performance was fast, if not the fastest to boot into CarPlay, I’ve not had many Android Auto-only wireless adapters, so I don’t have many to compare here. It wasn’t as fast as the TNVTEC A06 Android Auto adapter I’ve reviewed on this channel, but it was 1 second faster than the CarlinKit 5.0 in Android Auto mode.
    So if speed is important, this is the adapter to beat right now. Sadly it doesn’t do both platforms in one adapter, so you would have to buy two and plug them in each time you switch platforms. But if you’re only using one platform in the car, then with its price point, performance and stability all factored in, this little adapter from MSXTTLY comes well recommended, and for now, will be my go-to wireless adapter in my car.

      I went back to the CarlinKit 5.0 in the end after too many black screens and it sounded a little better. But that could have been a buggy iOS update at the time as I did have them also on the 5.0. 🤷🏻‍♂️
      I hope to do an updated round up in the coming months. I’ll try this or not again and see if much has changed.

    Hi, your videos are great, but your latest “best 5 carplay wireless adapter” is 1 years old.
    I need a carplay/android auto wireless adapter and i’m searching the best (without considering the price) that has a lowest connection time and the lowest input lag with the touch and the media (considering too the input lag of the buttons on the steering wheel).
    Basically i’m searching the fastest and the smoothest carplay adapter.
    I saw many videos of the carlinkit 5.0 2air (that you have reviewed) that from aliexpress i can get it for 40 euro, it looks that works pretty fine, but there are better alternatives?

      I hope to do a 2024 update in the coming weeks/month.
      There aren’t many better ones than the CarlinKit 5.0. Purely as it has a batter config area to allow you to customise data stream so it can perform a little faster on touch and audio. Boot time is longer than the Ottocast u2-air pro but it isn’t too far off it and if your car can boot the HU and power the usb port when unlocking it, it’s likely you’ll be wirelessly connected or seconds away from seeing CarPlay screen once you turn over the car.

    I like your review, and thank you for clearing up some points related to delay in calling and sound quality. it seems that manufacturing don't give attention to them, we end up with buying multiple adaptors and realy don't work so well. you see now modern cars have very good sound system and also larger screen with excellent resolution, however they lack the wireless carplay and offcouse we would like CZcams. so we end up with those units. For my testing, the best sound quality and resultion is Carlinkit 5.0 dongle, that almost match the wire, with minim delay almost not noticable in calling, however its just a dongle with no OS to handle youtube. I would love to here your opinion on the P3 in term of delay in calling, picture quality, and video audio sync. i heard but not sure about it in some comments in one of the reviewers that ottocast don't go for modern CPU but they make an excellent software's. does it mean that they have devices that bridge the issues i mentioned ? and thank you so much for the excellent content as usual

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  Před 8 měsíci

      The P3 didn’t perform as well as the P2 and they didn’t advance the series as much as P2 did over P1. Some users had spotting some lacking features on the P3 over P2 and have gone back to P2. So that might tell you where it’s at in comparison. If you can wait for the next generation I would do that. I don’t know when that is but I have my review of the ApplePie Rocket in 2 weeks with its slightly faster CPU and 5G SIm support. So this might be the start of newer adapters supporting this CPU spec.

    Does it have the same issue as other AA dongles? Most notably, it must be connected to the USB ports that are 'media' ports. The issue I've had here is that these ports maintain power even when the vehicle is off. Therefore the dongle stays connected to your vehicle, and therefore your phone stays connected to your vehicle when the vehicle is off and you're at home in the house. Essentially you have to unplug it every time you leave the vehicle which negates the whole purpose of being wireless.

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I’ve never had this problem. AFAIK Most usb ports maintain power for a short while after power off, some brands longer than others, but I think rarely do they stay on indefinitely.
      You can test this by having something connected to it with a status light, lock the car and check back after a few minutes by looking through the window.

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  Před 8 měsíci +3

      So if you plug in an adapter with gps passthrough into a CarPlay system that also has navigation built into it (your car will likely have a gps antenna) so the adapter can use this without using the gps antenna on your phone. Meaning it will allow you to keep your phone in the back pocket or in a jacket or bag and the gps will be taken from the car antenna more reliably than struggle getting gps lock to satellites from your phone gps antenna. This can cause delay or location drifting on the navigation map.
      This is a non issue if you have your phone up on your dash, in a charging cradle etc where it has good visibility to get all the gps satellites. Also if your car system doesn’t have navigation and no gps antenna then gps passthrough is wasted and it will use the phone gps instead.
      I hope this makes it clearer for you.

      This sounds like general compatibility with the system. Only an update will fix this if the config settings do not. Sounds like you've tried this, and there are a few other options on this particular adapter, so you'll have to either hope an update fixes these issues in the future or try a different adapter that isn't running the same software, like a CarlinKit.

      Always have both readily available on switched on, unless having them off and enabling them after you've started the car helps to fix the issues you're facing, if it is that, it is certainly a delay issue with your system.

      Which adapter and which store location? I’ll check. I’ve checked both CarPlay adapter on US and UK and they both show the cables and adapters. It’s only the DE link that shows one cable adapter (for some reason).

      It’s 1s faster than the 5.0 for CarPlay on my VW system. But it has limited config options and no GPS passthrough. If they are important and you also want Android auto support in the same device. Stick with the 5.0

      For wired AA on a CP only car system I’d try the CarlinKit 4.0 czcams.com/video/qsSFCDMMvR4/video.htmlsi=tPp0unFrwxc_z7Ri
      There’s also the ApplePie Lite czcams.com/video/ynSreE41vQg/video.htmlsi=GzAkErhQ44wCwJhQ and Ottocast U2-X (non pro version) czcams.com/video/fR3Wku1ZxVA/video.htmlsi=oKlRx3MkmwXLZ3-R

    What this review doesnt tell you is that those adaptors do NOT pair to your phone automatically when you get back in the car the next time. You have to unlock your phone and pair to it manually every. Single. Time.
    This is because android has no way to set a order priority of which device to pair to first, and ifs first come first serve, the first device requesting a pair is the first device being paired to your phone.
    And in most cars, the built in bluetooth always pairs before the adaptor does.
    Which means that your phone automatically pairs to your car, and not to the adaptor, and therefore, no android auto unless you pair to the adaptor manually.
    And yes, you can unpair the car. But the way android auto works is that sound goes through bluetooth, so when you pair to the adaptor, the adaptor forces your phone to pair to the car's bluetooth for sound, then switches over to wifi direct to copy the screen.
    And then the next time you get in the car, it pairs to the car again, and you have to unlock your phone, and pair to the adaptor again, and seriously thats more annoying than plugging in a cable..

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  Před 3 měsíci

      I don't know if this is trait of your car's system. I'll need to test this again with AAuto specifically, but I have never needed to connect to the car system BT for it to pass audio. Unelss you mean microphone audio? Of which AA should handle this. BT is used for the inital pairing to Wifi process for CP and I thought AA also, as I have never had to reconnect to BT on the car system in all the adapters I've tested personally. You shouldn't need to unless this car system specifically needs it.
      What car make, model and year are you using it with ?

    • @cartouchator
      @cartouchator Před 3 měsíci +1

      @CarPlayLife 2024 dacia sandero. Every adaptor I've tried , as soon as you pair to it over bluetooth, it instantly switches over to wifi then pairs you to the car with bluetooth.
      Then when I get in the car again the next time, it connects to the adaptor over wifi, and to the car over bluetooth, but android auto doesn't work no matter how long I wait. I then have to manually re-pair to the adaptor then it works again, until I leave and get back to the car again, and have to once again redo it.
      I don't seem to be the only one either, I've seen other reviews say the same on those adaptors on amazon UK
      I found plugging in a cable less hassle haha.

      I don't think what you're saying is true and I don't think it has anything to do with who is first. I am also encountering this issue with a dongle stick bought from AliExpress that doesn't auto-connect when I return to the car. I have to manually connect the device via Bluetooth, which is quite annoying. I tried it at home too, plugged it into a USB socket, and still had to connect it manually, while my music headphones connect immediately, even in the car after initially connecting to the car's infotainment. I think the dongle might not be sending the correct signals for the phone to recognize it for automatic reconnection, and this could be due to either software or the hardware limitations of the dongle.
