  • Lowering MK8 Golf R on HR lowering Springs. In this video we ditch the "adjustable" lowering springs on the MK8 for lowering springs at a fixed height. In addition to lowering the MK8, we install camber plate on the front, and adjustable rear camber arms all from ‪@034motorsport‬ . Finally upgrading the MK8R wheels and tires.

My experience with the original 034 "Dynamic and Camber" strut mounts for my 2018 R was not a good one. Harsh banging over sharp bumps, completely unacceptable for a new car at this price point. Issue completely cured by returning to stock mounts. To get my negative camber, I procured a set of Clubsport S spindles which added 1.0 degree neg camber and also installed Superpro LCA's with added caster. I have 2.2 degrees of negative front camber and great turn-in. Thanks for another awesome video. Interesting and informative as always!

I'm so jealous of how good your wheel hubs still look. No lie, I had rust showing on the 45 degree face on right rear after 3 weeks. Got worse when I tried to touch it up, didn't feel like trying to warranty so, I got a can of matching color high-temp caliper paint, masked everything, prepped and painted both rear. Looks better than stock. I do have an open warranty claim w/ dealer on the rubber window trim which looks pre-aged all around the car. I'm just not feeling very lucky with mine. I see what you were talking about with the wear on the lugs.

During the video you mentioned “One Time Use Bolts” only, can you share which ones are one time you only when replacing the springs on an MK8? I have a GTI & I assume they’re the same with an R. Thanks.

still works fine. just a little stiffer. I tried to recalibrate my DCC and it wouldn't take. I think I have a sensor issue. it drops out when the car is off the ground. The Left front one I think.

Do You or anyone you know have experience with the Bilstein or KW DCC compatible coilovers? The $3000+ price tag is crazy but if it functions like oem with adjustable lowering I’m tempted to go that route as opposed to possibly shortening my stock strut lifespan.
Or even possibly the DCC cancel module from KW and Ohlins with a standard coilover

    24mm 12pt axle nut
    21mm strut nut socket
    7mm allen for strut

Hey, how much camber You have on front and back? I ride with KW DDC lowered by 40mm and have 1.2 negative in front and 2.3 at the back. I bought camber ball joints to get an additional 1.2 (up to 2.5 at the front) and to correct roll center. So with camber plates You should have more then 3 degrees of negative? Nice wheel setup btw. Would be great to use 255/35/18 on track with such heavy car as golf R.

How do you like the KW DDC’s? Thinking about them for my MK8 R. I am currently on Racingline springs and they ride like s**t! I had on H&R springs before that and I didn’t like them. I had ST coilovers on my last GTI (basically KW V1s) and I loved them.

I've encountered at least a few mechanics who couldn't care less about doing a good job if it meant finishing the job faster (to service more cars), cutting corners to avoid using more expendable materials (grease, new fasteners, steel brushes), or replacing marginally worn parts so they could take a cut on the new ones.
