As a no nothing American, thank you so much for your programming. It is wonderful to hear a different perspective on the wider world.
The American national n foreign policy is to use whatever means to maintain n expand its world dominance n their endless wars of aggression around the world are cleverly disguise by their powerful media as defending national security, freedom n democracy. Great conversation
Among the best episodes of this podcast. Fascinating how in in just less than 2 hours, you guys can cover so much ground. I love how Vijay choose his words to provoke you to search more, to be curious, to test him.
I think the Indonesian guy has a very Western perspective on the world.
He has a lot to learn.. At least he is open minded enough to let himself be educated by a wise man like Vijay.
@@kaimanyu586 i wouldn't use the word 'western', but yes i know what you mean and you're right. That makes it even more laudable and frankly very surprising to see Vijay in his podcast.

*Vijay Prashad,* Indian Historian, Journalist, Award-Winning Author, and Executive Director of Tricontinental (Institute for Social Research)
*What Hooked Vijay Into Writing?*
00:00 - Intro
02:35 - Environmental, cultural, family background, influence, and values⭐
_“The past grips you in Asia … We haven’t had a complete break from some of the best of our traditions and some of the worsts.”_
_“I grew up in the household of debate (and discussion).”_
_“You really give something to somebody when you actually might want it, and that’s a real gift.”_
09:37 - Terrors are what gave him inspiration to tell the stories of the world so that other young people can read and think seriously about what goes on in the world.
15:00 - The job of journalists, writers, and intellectuals is to talk about inconvenient truths in a way that doesn’t demoralize people.🔥
_“I think it's a terrible piece of advice to tell young people to be an intellectual you should be dispassionate. No! You should be deeply moved by things in the world, but don't let your emotions create the story. Try to put your emotions into a theory.”_
📎 Vijay’s Message :
Try to understand why it happens from history and try our best to create a world further from that.
*Everlasting Nakba, Zionism, Resolution*
17:57 - Brief History
19:55 - Current State
20:53 - Global Response : Humanity Over Religion
_“It's the brazenness of the violence the scale of the violence that has really upset tens if not hundreds of millions of people around the planet.”_
_“Anti-Semitism is a European problem. It's not an Asian, Arab, African, Latin (problem). It's a European problem. Europe doesn't want to face up to its own problem. Now, they are using that to attack critics of Israel. I mean, why would you call me an anti-semite? I don't have any history of anti-Semitism.”_
25:25 - Ideological Debate : Has Zionism Evolved?
_“The problem is this : Zionism has become this calcified form of ethno-religious nationalism.”_
30:29 - Lessons for the rest of the world
_“That (historical) complexity cannot afford an ethnic-religious State.”_
_“We (Asians) are a complicated ancient part of the world. We cannot afford some of these European fantasies of one people, one language, one religion, one this, one that.”_
32:10 - Hope for Resolution
• [33:33] Bitter resolution journey
• [38:59] Vijay Prashad : _There's two things about war zones that people don't get. They see the death, but what they don't get is the banality of the war zone the noise is incredible … and secondly what has become banal is the dust, the debris, the amount of of toxic material._
• [40:12] Vijay Prashad : _I don't know what the Palestinians are supposed to do frankly._
*Ukraine-Palestine Double Standard*
42:53 - Juxtaposing Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Palestine : It’s not the same
44:58 - The US’ position towards Ukraine and Taiwan is a way to weaken the economy of China. In other words, the US-China duel is an economic contestation, not an ideological one.
• [47:13] First threat : Eurasian integration is a direct threat to US multinational corporations and ruling elites.
• [52:11] Second threat : ‘The New Cold War’
*US Is Not Everything*
54:06 - US’ Multipolarization⭐
_“There’s nothing special about the United States.”_
58:41 - US’ Democracy
_“Democracy is a process, not a system.”_
_“Democracy doesn't mature when you get the most expensive voting system. Democracy is in the head it's not in the machine!”_
1:00:57 - Gita Wirjawan’s idea of democracy

1:01:23 - US’ & allies’ military spending and its relationship with global security & safety
📌 75% of global military spending in 2021 was spent by the NATO countries; and 12% by China.
💡 Recalling Jeffrey Sach’s Article : www.jeffsachs.org/newspaper-articles/h29g9k7l7fymxp39yhzwxc5f72ancr
_“China never made overseas transoceanic empires”_ and _“the United States is the least multilateral country among all major economies.”_
_“The irony is that since 1980 the US has been in at least 15 overseas wars of choice (Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Panama, Serbia, Syria, and Yemen just to name a few), while China has been in none, and Russia only in one (Syria) beyond the former Soviet Union. The US has military bases in 85 countries, China in 3, and Russia in 1 (Syria) beyond the former Soviet Union.”_
✔️ Fact Check :
According to MIP, the US has undertaken almost 400 military interventions since 1776, with half of these operations undertaken between 1950 and 2019. Over 25% of them have occurred in the post-Cold War period.

1:08:24 - Gita Wirjawan challenges Vijay’s data

1:13:23 - Dollar Seniority & De-dollarization

*Global South*
1:18:29 - #GitaWirjawanLecture : Unequal distribution of global liquidity

Though I don't agree with all of the things that the guest has said but he makes very compelling arguments and one the most fascinating conversations yet on this channel
Mr. Prashad is the voice of Asia. Amazing person. I'm so glad he has such great relationships throughout Asia.
sangat berbobot dan memberi pengetahuan yang sangat luas .. terima kasih pak gita dan pak vijay ..
this just points out the critical importance for Indonesia to actively shape the future it desires to uphold, making Hilirisasi an even more pressing task than ever before.
No money No say, as simple as that.
Vijay Prashad is another example of this equisite Bengalian minds. It is not just this intellectual rigour but one is also laced by this deep, unwavering passion of humanity. In my field, the arts, it is Rustom Bharucha. Also from Calcutta, an eloquent writer and theatre dramaturg who wrote some really breakthrough books on various subjects of the field. Thanks you for featuring him.
Don’t use the bathroom and Calcutta airport. Just saying.
Bengali???🤣🤣🤣🤣 the dirtiest and poorest states in India.
Bengali have been successful in spreading lies that they are the most educated most smart most intelligent in the world but their own lands (West Bengal and Bangladesh) have been only land of misery.
Bengal,the misery lands
They are from Calcutta, indeed, but not Bengalis.

I really enjpy the conversation, Thank you pak gitaaa!!! One of the best podcasttt I have.
I'd love to see an interview with the speaker, Shahid Bolsen from the Middle Nation channel.
That's exactly what I was thinking Sr. 😃
Also, a discussion between Vijay and Shahid would be interesting
In a thought-provoking discussion, Vijay Prashad challenges the perceived superiority of the United States, questioning why nations like Indonesia should defer to its leadership. He argues that democracy transcends mere voting systems, emphasizing the need to address colonial mentalities that underpin power dynamics. Prashad reflects on the grim realities of war zones, highlighting the banality and brutality often overlooked amidst the chaos. He critiques the global community's double standards in responding to conflicts, particularly noting the disproportionate attention given to Gaza compared to other regions like Ukraine. Prashad delves into geopolitical dynamics, analyzing the shift in global power dynamics and the opposition to emerging powers like China, suggesting a reevaluation of entrenched structures and ideologies.
