  • If the FN 509 & Walther PDP were sat in front of my and I could only pick one, the decision would be tough! Both have great attributes but there can only be one.

    Ive got the 509mrd, and a friend of mine had the tactical. My trigger was alright but that tactical had a heavier trigger. Neither were an issue when shooting for me although the owner of the tactical struggled with his and ended up selling it. I took my 509 apart and smothed up the striker channel which greatly improved the break of the trigger. I let a friend of mine who was 60 years old and had never fired a hand gun before shoot my 509 and he was easily hitting a half silhouette piece of steel at 20 to 25 yards. My only complaint is i bought the fde and now i wish i had bought a black one. Personal preference.

      A bit over 700 rnd of fullpower 10mm and about the same 40 subsonics... Love'n this pistol. AND it feeds/runs everything so far, even the really heavy anti-bear goodness.
      Just my sample of 1 tho'.

    Have no experience with FN, but of all the firearms I own, I would take the PDP over all of them. Doesn't conceal very well, but it's by far my most accurate.
    Only change I made to my PDP is changing out the plastic guide rod for a steel BT Guide Rod. Couldn't be happier with my choice.

      @Brian.A.Fassett I agree. The off-the-shelf Walther PDP SD Pro is very impressive. Having watched the firearms industry evolve over several years, I must give much deserved credit to gun manufacturers that are continually innovating, pushing the envelope, and listening to their user base! Thanks for your comment.

    Didn’t like how light the PDP trigger was for a defensive use firearm, accidentally double tapped a few times while trying one out. It’s also super snappy because of that Stepped Chamber, not really a fan. The 509 just seems like a more durable & robust pistol internally, especially since they’ve updated the Striker… the 509 is my personal choice.

      Im gonna have to disagree with you. i have had 3 509 2 of them have broken due to the striker breaking . Im easily at 7k through my original walther pdp . The trigger thing is a personal training issue the gun is fine if i could carry it on duty I would, but my agency issues glocks (which aren't bad either) fn is no more robust then most other striker fired pistols . As a 10 year fn fan fan objectivly the walther is better

    • @KennyRodgers930
      @KennyRodgers930 Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@boomee78 Did you read the part where I said “Since they’ve updated the striker?” I’ve seen plenty of PDP strikers break… and guide rods. The trigger feel is personal preference, the more robust FN design isn’t. The main part that breaks in striker fired pistols is the trigger bar. FN (CZ as well I believe) utilizes a double trigger bar to reinforce that weak point. Their rails are also objectively more robust than Walthers, and are completely replaceable incase they do break. They come with steel Trijicon sights, objectively more robust than the plastic sights that come on the PDP. Steel guide rod, objectively more robust than the plastic one thats in the PDP. CHF barrel (heart of the pistol), FN is known to have some of the highest quality barrels in the industry.

      The 509 is in no way a more durable or reliable pistol than the pdp. I carry the 509’s big brother, the 510 but not because it’s a more durable design than my pdp but because it’s a 10mm.

      The Walther PDP sights are compatible with the same used on Glocks. So I would simply upgrade the fixed sights to a pair that I preferred. I plan to eventually upgrade the plastic sights on my PDP Pro. However, now that I have installed my Acro P2, the plastic sights are not as much of a concern, as mastering shooting with an RDS. I'll upgrade the guide rod as well.

    It would be awesome for you to compare these two guns without the comps. I hear the PDP is snappy in comparison to other guns of the same size. I hear the comps mask the snappy recoil.

    As you know, my Walther PDP is my choice for anything other then conceal carry. The sights are shit but the trigger IS the best stock trigger. Imo, FNs make “battle guns;” they’re built like tanks. So they are slightly unpleasant to shoot like Glocks (at least for my weak girl hands anyway).
    Did you notice if the FN 509 is ammo grain picky? Or will it eat anything?

    • @FitnFire
      @FitnFire  Před 8 měsíci

      Great analysis!!! The 509 was NOT ammo picky at all! It ran 115 & 124 grain ammo just fine from several different manufacturers.

      Check out Tim H.'s (Military Arms Channel) torture test of the FN 509 a few years ago. Glocks are certainly proven. However, the Arex Arms Zero performed the best of all the torture tests that Tim H. has conducted to date (feel free to verify that assertion).
