    If you are in to vocals more than bass, go for the 104s, the reason is because they have a full range driver instead of a regular mid-woofer with soft suspension, the lack of bass is nothing you can't fix with an rca-spliter, I paired mine to a 10 inch klipsch subwoofer and it sounds amazing!

    believe it or not, when it comes to sitting back & referencing, that midrange honesty of the JBL is really going to be more helpful despite being less than desirable to listen to for a prolonged tine... why do you think bookshelf speakers such as Yamaha, JBL or Auratone have been popular for decades? I cant listen to a pair of NS10's or my JBL 2000 series for longer than 30-40 mins without moving back to my JBL LSR's. I wrote about they removed low cut feature from Eris 3.5 but it was never there. Some Amazon seller used wrong picture in the 3.5 product resulting in this confusion and the CZcams videos showed 5inch but looked small like 3.5 so that caused the confusion. 3.5 has 80Hz limit and 4.5 70Hz so they sell it as media monitors.

I have to go into my daw to increase my lows on the channels needed, to get a descent sound. These are great! And sound great, but maybe im doing something wrong? Maybe I need a monitor with greater bass response. I want to make sure my mix will sound good on other media players, not just my system. To me it sounded as thought the Presonus hypes the treble more rather than it being necessarily clearer, it is louder comparitively. While the Presonus certainly has more presence in the highs and upper mids the JBL definitely has better lower mid and bass and a more balanced sound overall to my ears. Obviously you would want a subwoofer to compliment these if they were your only monitors but they both sound pretty good for the price.

    Both of these speakers WILL offer accurate mixes, and remember, they are designed and marketed as reference (studio-monitor) speakers. They provide a relatively neutral playback of all frequencies, which is what you want for mixing. Because of their size, they WILL be lacking in the bass reproduction area, so when using these for editing, one must always keep that in mind, (meaning you'll have to do some guess-work in tweaking-up your bass in the mix.) They are not perfect monitors, but there is an actual advantage to these charming units: Because of their smaller size and lower wattage, they will not carry their sound as far a distance and big monitor speakers. This is perfect if you work in an environment where you don't want to wake up your neighbors next door in the middle of the night, or have your mother beating down on your door yelling bloody murder. Not only that, but they look cute and adorable (especially the round ones) on either side PC. Perfect for those to travel a lot, or have a small room.

      I'd say that you should still think about 3.5 if you want clarity. Presonus eris 5 has a stronger bass response also at upper bass register. That feature thows a blanket over the midrange, sounding as if there would be a "loudness" on. The smaller and bigger Presonuses sound very different, actually. 3.5 sounds clearer and 5 sounds fuller and bigger. But they are totally different sounding speakers for different needs.

    • @raiistmar
      @raiistmar Před 3 lety

      @@B1gWw That depends to what you understand as lack of bass. Do you mean that you want your speakers just to be loud window-shaking? Or that you want your speaker to be able to reproduce bass down to 20 Hz in a flat manner (as you would expect from a studio monitor)? If you just want loud window-shaking bass you can just crank it up on the speaker, sound quality will suffer a bit (you will get a muddy sound) depending on how much you crank it, but you will be able to get that "bass". If, on the other hand, you mean that you want the full bass range to be reproduced but a natural not window-shaking way, then you definitely need to add a properly calibrated sub, because no 5" speaker will be able to reproduce 20 Hz due to physical constraints. Now remember, a properly calibrated subwoofer should not be "heard", it should only be "felt".

Also, Eris E4.5 is the real rival to those due to the driver size and the price, at least here in my country they cost almost the same. So, despite I love JBL products and I definitely choose the 104's instead of Presonus ones, I still think this comparison is not fair enough, u should compare the E4.5' s as soon as u find the chance.
