After watching this review, the Nobel Prize committee has decided of revoking Dylan's Nobel for literature and has decided to award Cal Chuchesta instead.
Cal Chuchesta provides a sharp fresh humour into contemporary American culture.
The Nobel Prize committee really can't form their own opinions huh🤷♂️
My dad says this is a masterpiece, but I don't want my opinion to be influenced by other people.
Now thank you Anthony for your review, now I know what I think of this album

@@DarthOpinion Nashville is a neat little record, desire and blood on the tracks are really good but hard rain is a little unfair considering it's not a studio album. I would still say that none of those quite measure up to the likes of Freewheelin or his famous trilogy. To say he "never recovered" is a bit much though, I take that back.

The key to having a successful project in your twilight years is apparently to have a black-and-white album cover
I read this comment literally right when Melon got to that part of the review 😂
This is actually a colorized version fairly famous black and white photograph from the 50's/60's
Yes, the music is very feeble, and it very boomerish, but thats why its good. Its called rough and rowdy ways, almost poking fun at old age. Bobby is very aware of his old age and makes music from the perspective of an old grandpa. Talking about Kennedy for 16 minutes, surely youve had conversations like that with your grandpa. He brings up the rolling stones at least 10 times (as my grandpa does). Its a very real and honest record, and i believe it is one of his best.
Being a boomer is not a bad thing, Bob Dylan is arguably the greatest American songwriter of all time.
there's no such thing as boomerish music.
@@paranoidplane9799 *the greatest american boomer of all time
@@donato8983 No, the greatest American songwriter of all time, next to Charlie Parker. The people from my generation need to go beyond trap music in order to understand.
The review seems to miss Dylan's irony and humor... and all around understatement (thus the music).
I bet he dislikes The Smiths/Morrissey for these reasons too.
Bob Dylan didn’t sell his soul just to get a 5/10 melon 😡
His next 8-10 will be blowin’ in the wind.
This albums was ordinary, musically poor. The lyrics was here but, you can't do a great album only with lyrics
To think that bob dylan was only 21 years younger than frank sinatra
Selling your soul in most cases don't give you more talent or talent at all
You sold your soul to fuckin' Gabi.
Just because Dylan’s getting old doesn’t mean you had to repeatedly say “ok boomer” throughout the video, melon
don't worry Melon, I'm pretty sure Bob is now working on a Death Grips collab so you can finally become aware of his late-career genius songwriting.

Bob Dylan has the same score as ksi’s dissimulation. Therefore, Bob Dylan and KSI are equal in musical talent.

"Not Dark Yet" is one of Dylan's all time greatest songs.

Bob Dylan: deadass spends whole career trying to defame himself because he's sick of people just biting on his shit without actually understanding the point.
Fantano: this is self indulgent, and it's everything i don't want from a Dylan album (even tho that's literally what he tries to do with every album)
Damn wasn’t expecting this low
Yeah me too. Kinda bummed. One mans 5 is another mans 10 i guess.

doesn't matter what u say, a dylan album is never going to be a 5, and a lil pump album is never going to be a 7
This review is infuriating.
No doubt. I can't imagine being a fan of Dylan and feeling lukewarm on modern times or love and theft. Love and theft in particular is his best album since desire to me, it's a masterpiece. It's a bummer melon isn't getting much out of this record, but if he didn't like any of the 00s stuff then it was inevitable
Anthony, at the beginng of the review: this album sucks, dylan is washed up
anthony, actually talking about the songs: the songs are actually pretty good
u missed that the whole point of the album was he was GIVING UP his rough and rowdy ways...
Bold of you to accuse Dylan of being involved with Epstein and Maxwell before rating his album a 10 just because of that
Luca Giorgi bro...uncool Anthony said he doesn’t like that joke so you actually cannot make it😠
As any Dylan fan understands there is a wide range of folks sitting under the umbrella "Dylan fan". Some people enjoy different eras more than others and since Dylan has such a varied catalogue you could get 100 people in a room to debate this album and end without a clear consensus. Those who like it will like it and those who don't won't, but I think all Dylan fans can agree on that we are glad to see an album with new original material after waiting for such a long time. I just hope Dylan keeps making more new and original material, because anything is better silence.
This was nice but I was kind of off put when you said you wished bob dylans voice sounded whiter
You would’ve given at least an 8 if he was named, “Bob Melon”
I can already tell that this one will get him crucified.
26 dislikes already
I'm surprised, from what I've seen whenever you praise an older musician to younger music nerds, they just respond with "Yeah, their sooo overrated, only boomers like them."
Andrew Phillips Bob Dylans the singer younger music nerds have to say they like in order to prove they like music that isn’t experimental hip hop and bubblegum pop.
Rightfully so in this case. This album kills!
@@jamescraigen6872 Lmao that's so true.
Blasphemous rating
Its definitely one of his best.
I agree with the score and this comment. jkjk
It's his best album of this decade for sure
Dylan is a deep ocean and your knowledge of the noble prize winner is splashing in the kiddie pool
You shouldnt give em a low rating just because his second wife was black mr fantano
The fun of pouring over Dylan's lyrics in this album made it a clear 9/10 for me. The lyrics on all the songs tie together and I wish you looked into that.
Yep, I think it went over his head. Like I said in my previous comment, this is more of a roast. and a half baked one
If it was a book of poetry that'd be fine, but the music and vocal performance was bland and barely half arsed. You don't get 9/10 for just having good lyrics.
spookyTwigg why not? Can’t the music just be a vessel or a mood to compliment the lyrics? If you’re talking actually musically interesting compositions this disqualifies most popular music. Music with lyrics is in the literarily tradition it’s pretty uncommon to have really sonically or compositionally interesting pop music and those who do that often expense the lyrics because interesting music compromises song structure
@@toomuchsparetimeproduction7281 it can be a vessel for the mood yeah, but this vessel makes the mood sound boring which isn't what the lyrics deserve. His delivery hides that there's good lyrics in there. Only people who are already hardcore Dylanheads are going to hear the message of the songs without wanting to switch off.
Did you really had to make the whole review in Bob Dylan's voice? I barely understood you, melon.
That cover is awful lol
It’s such a missed opportunity
hahaha it’s a shiter
With a few notable exceptions, most Dylan album covers suck.
blonde on blonde and blood on the tracks, aren't them?
It is visually unappealing, although I do like it thematically given that it is a wideshot making it look like a still from a film, which relates to the lyrics on the album about the projection of social values onto famous figures, not to mention the film references and how much of the lyrics come across as cinematic.
Anthony why did you spend this entire video tryna prove Hurricane DID do it?
Man, the music, the lyrics, the singing, this is a masterpiece. Dylan keeps hitting grand slams.
I myself haven't enjoyed Dylan's more modern work as much as much as the stuff he put out in his prime, but I will always have respect for him as an artist. He has never at any point in his career tried to change his art to garner any favor from either modern audiences or his die hard fans. He makes the music he wants to make without compromise, and that in itself is so rare and commendable.
what about Empire Burlesque? I feel like many of the artists that came up in the 60's went a bit lost in the 80's and tried more commercial production, like Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, David Bowie… even if you could argue all of them did it in their way
@@RayasNegroOvejas Yeah, the introduction of new technology in the 80's music production, must have felt for them that they had to adapt or else they were going to be forgotten. I think it was sort of a "panic" choice, and in the 90's once the novelty started to wear off, and people started to reevaluate the more organic aspects of music production of 60's and early 70's, these artist began to feel more at ease and reassured with the music they were known for, and thankfully this mindset has stayed the same until today, wich is a very good thing, now there's space for all aproeaches to music and you can judge it at it's own merits.
Im starting a band called Boomer Beach Vacation. I called it first
Is this an album review, or a review of Bob Dylan's entire career?
An album review. Glad to help.

Thanks for reminding me Bob Dylan is still making music
Mean to tell us that Dylan wasn't being "indulgent" in the 60s too?? And to say he doesn't sound like a sage on this like Cohen and those guys on tracks like multitudes is as untrue as it is needlessly provocative
lmao okk
@@christiancristof491 😄🤪
A bit much to say that you want to get "Rough & Rowdy" with my husband, Anthony but otherwise solid review.
I’ve made up my mind to give myself to you isn’t about love, it’s about a Dylan at the end of his life/career accepting his mortality/giving himself to Death. I feel like u intentionally misinterpreted a lot of these lyrics so u could trash the subdued instrumentals and give it a 5

Not Bad lad underrated comment I’m a Dylan fan but this had me laughing 😂😂👍
so when’s the Bob Dylan worse to best? Surely you’re not gonna say his 90’s work is “hocky”
I feel like this album is the most Dylan thing Dylan has done recently, and if he ever does live shows he is playing songs from this
Honestly, despite this album's shortcomings, just getting to still talk about this fucking legend in 2020 is amazing to me. And yes while people like David Bowie made truly great work at the end of his lifetime, I think Bob has earned the right to make whatever he makes him content. That album cover is pretty bad though. Maybe a classics week episode on Blonde On Blonde in the future ?
It's okay guys, he meant 5/5.
Ha! The jokes on you, melon! I had a mental breakdown before I had even watched the video!!!
"Gates of Melon" is my favorite Bob Dylan song, by far.
I think the lyrics and the feel of the album are amazing. My favorite since Time out of mind. Dylan is gonna do what he wants, he's not gonna do David Bowie or reinvent himself to please critiques or anybody, hard to believe you havent figured this of Dylan yet ... You should go back and check Oh mercy , it sounds like you havent really heard it, also one of his best album since the 70's.

Love and Theft is so good.

You call that thorough? He gave like a 20 second review of each track
Album was great. 9/10 for me.

That GoldenEye analogy made me giggle too much
Thanks melon for reminding me our Minnesota legend Bob Dylan is still here
If it’s as groundbreaking as must be Santa then I’m buying it
I agree with a lot of what you said however I feel you’re more harsh on Dylan because of his earlier incredible catalogue meaning you expect more of him than most artists.
I feel at some point you have to separate an artists from his earlier works, especially when his earlier works occurred over 50 years ago (first album 58 years ago which is insane!)
That’s hard with Dylan because a lot of the themes seem to be reflective on his past life and past work. I don’t think you have to separate them but I think you have to leave your expectations at the door as much as you can
Nice review Anthony
Bro I can't believe this dude is still alive
Bob Dylan is the person Kanye West claims to be. A genius and one of the few people who genuinely were the voice of a generation.
Disagree...kanye's influence from 2004-present is arguably as big as Dylan's influence in the 60s-70s
were you alive during the 60s?
Kanye makes good music and arguably makes better music then Bob Dylan don't hate on him
@@tommyvercetti5945 Kanye makes better music than Dylan?!? You are ok? That is absolutely insane lol
@@professorpancakes6545 that's just like my opinion man but to say Dylan is what kanyd thinks he is. Is just disrespectful to his legacy Kanyes influence in 00s and 10s can be equalivance to Bob Dylan in the 60s and 70s
I love the album! But understandable review.
Needledrop, in regards to the album title - I think it is a reference to a Merle Haggard song from the album "Lonesome Fugitive". I may be wrong, but Haggard does have a song called "Rough and Rowdy Ways".
Blonde on Blonde and Blood on The Tracks are top tier
