She is such a good speaker, particularly the part at the end where she repeats the questions, everybody should do that! Really loved the talk.
The material and insights are great, but she could definitely improve her speaking skills. She's obviously quite nervous and makes a lot of little mistakes. Nothing that detracts from the value of the talk though. She just needs to do this more to get more comfortable with it.
I love talks by the Hyper Light team. They're always so passionate and informative.
Hyper Light Drifter is among the best games I've played in recent years. It especially stands out as an indie production. I love the way that she talks. She really understands what she did for the game that made it work, hence speaking in a very fluent manner.
3:20 wow the same limitation doom had back in the day. No wonder both games have unbelievably labyrinthian level structures.
This was a really great talk. It's nice to have these analytical specific explanations.
YESS HYPERLIGHT DRIFTER god i love this game
This was great. HLD is one of the best designed games ever made, imo, so this insight is invaluable.
What a nice talk
Thank you, really informative and at the same time positive talk! It has valuable advice.
Good talk. Good work on Hyper...
Nice, real good talk.
If I turn off my phone, how am I supposed to watch this video?!
idk, pc?
Lol
ba-dum tish
S-h-h-h! Turn it off!
What a nice talk, congrats
13:41 ITS OVER ANAKIN I HAVE THE HIGH GROUND
I'm late to the party but... where are those extra slides about other things that transfer from 3D to 2D? (Love the talk, BTW. Very useful for me right now.)
did you ever found it?
Is that Sean Spalding at 27:50?
Really good helpful.Funny at 13:57
Surprisingly good talk
I like this woman's brain.
Curious though, how does one seperate these jobs durinv production? As a level designer, do you get an in-engine level editor to quickly test your findings?
@@msPacmanization Depends entirely on the engine. But usually, yes.
The only thing i didn't like (hope they address in their next game) they hid all the secret stuff on the sides of the screen so players had a tendency to just run along the side walls and stuff.
I always feel lost in Hyper Light Drifter...and was lost through most of my experience with it...
that's how it's supposed to be, there's no set path
This Week In News play it over a cuppa times. It feels like becoming familiar with the woods. Such good design.
isn't it amazing?
that thing she mentions at 3:33 is possible to do. don't know why they told her that
potenitally their game systems didnt support it.
was she kinda nervous?
yeah, seems that way, I would be shitting tho if I had to talk in front of that many people though lol. Great talk though still IMO
So nervous
I get nervous from the talk :/ still some interesting points
still a great talk!
this is the worse map and level design of any game i've ever played in my life.
Could you clarify this (please)?
(Compared to which games qnd why is tge design so bad if I may ask?)
@@sidclauwers5945 couldn't ever figure out where to go. got lost backtracking forever. because of the weird perspective of the map and game i was never sure what paths were even walkable.
Gotta calm down
Why does she have to breath so loud...
Some people just do
And anxious people tend to do so more apperantly (not sure if it's the case)
There could be many reasons but it's not on purpose, also giving speeches doesn't look like their main job (or I missed that).
