A unique city. Lots of history, magical central streets, nice people... Greetings from Germany!
Hi! Thanks Christian!
This is MY CITY !!
@@petarrusev5566 Добре
I don't like this city I am born there but is negative influence there .
I was walking back from school one day and I saw 2 people talking in English (it was obvious that they were native speakers), 1 week later I found this and recognized you.
Ahhhh that’s so funny. Thanks for finding us! ❤️
Now I might travel to Bulgaria!
yes!!
Thanks for saying that, I'm Bulgarian!🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬
You’re more than welcome! We LOVE foreigners🇧🇬
You are welcome my friend! We people from Plovdiv will show you the beauty of our city. And you will taste the Beauty of Bulgaria.
I lived in Plovdiv and miss it terribly having had to come back to the UK for personal/family reasons 6 years ago tomorrow , cannot wait to return to live one day . It is wonderful . your beautiful video brought tears to my eyes once again . Thank you for sharing
It sure looks like a special place.
Plovdiv is lovely. The people are so incredibly friendly and hospitable. God bless Bulgaria
It certainly has an amazing story to tell- and the history around the place is amazing.
This is the city in Bulgaria with the calmest population❤️

Been there. Beautiful city, and kaldrma beneath my feet was a special treat. Had a beautiful meal in one of the restaurant overlooking the city. Greetings from Croatia.
I'm an American that has lived in Plovdiv for the last 4 years. Love it
Out of interest: have you had any big culture-shocks moving to Bulgaria?
@@dimitar.bogdanov yes at first. Since being here for 4 years it's no longer shocking but normal but I was only here one month when I married my Bulgarian wife and our wedding was very traditional. The groomsmen and I pushing through the door and finding my wife's shoe and putting money in it with everyone yelling. The band was playing and dancing Хоро. At the time I knew almost no Bulgarian language so I had to have headphones throughout our wedding with a translator. It was a very big culture shock.... oh and the first time I ate Агнешка глава for Giorgev day. 🤣🤣
@@theologymatters4209 Hahahaha, the head really tops it off! We like to eat very weird stuff sometimes hahahaha
@@dimitar.bogdanov it was actually very good, just not something we would eat in America haha
Wow! How incredibly beautiful and historically significant is that place?! Looks like a place you want to explore with someone special. You are especially lucky to have each other seeing the world two-gether!
Definitely! Thank you for watching!
Hello guys, this is first time I am watching you, you made me so proud! I am from Varna, Bulgaria thank you for the tour around Plovdiv, truly special city, it is my favourite city in Bulgaria, along with our old capital Veliko Turnovo. It is worth seeing also. Thank you for your positive presentation, for presenting the real fact that Plovdiv is truly the oldest city in Europe which is still inhabited to present days. I think Bulgaria in general is really underrated destination, if you go to the mountain areas or to the seaside you will find many more amazing places and towns. Good luck with your chanel. It was a pleasure. 🙏☘️
Wow! This is lovely, thank you very much!
Bulgaria looks awesome and the architecture is superb. The breakfast looked great. I must admit I do like all your videos and content

Hello!! Thank you for showing my beautiful country! I hope you enjoy staying in Bulgaria. I'm happy that there are people like you, who share those awesome views from Bulgaria. Greetings from Plovdiv! 😀
Thank you so much! Hope you’ll follow the journey ❤️
I’m from Sofia, and we too have Roman settlement excavation in the middle of our city centre. But Plovdiv is something else completely! It is beautiful and little more clean than the capital, I think all of Bulgaria is beautiful if you explore it and seen places outside main cities!
It’s so good when you see two young happy and positive people just enjoying their time ❤️ god bless
Thank you!
I'm glad to see young people explore and share how amazing Bulgaria truly is! Thank you both for your great videos ❤️
This is my hometown, I miss it every single day! I haven't been back in 5 years, but this summer that will change!
Fingers crossed! Thanks for watching!

As a person who was born and lives in Bulgaria, I must say that these are the best compliments about our country I've ever heard. SO..Thank you so much! In the west we are really underrated and actually a lot of people don't know that we even exist (especially Americans, not to be rude💙), it is just what it is.

Such a great video guys! I am originally from Plovdiv. I was in the UK for 2 years then came back and lived in Sofia for 12 years and just recently moved back to Plovdiv couple of months ago. My best decision ever!
We’re jealous of you! Thanks for watching!
Welcome to our beautiful city, so happy to see you exploring Plovdiv!
Hi! Thank you for watching and commenting!
I have been watching your Bulgaria series and I am learning that Bulgaria is massively underappreciated. What an amazing place, so many beautiful, vibrant cities, so much history. And it's still so affordable, this is *the* time to visit. And it's also great to support the economy of a developing country, France has enough tourist money, everyone has seen it, try something different!
Plovdiv is a place I'm thinking of retiring to in five years at 55 after talking to Digital Nomad and You Tuber Kirstin Wilson. She lived in Plovdiv for a while and has a great hub for Digital Nomads. There's also the street art and cheaper living by western standards.
Another great vlog, cheers
Matt are you ready for the Euros?
Come on Wales!...
Blessings!
Would definitely recommend, there are a lot of expats that live there!! Ready for the Euros!!! :)
great choice. I am also be moving to Plovdiv soon, coming from Sofia though.

Welcome to my home city! I thoroughly enjoyed watching this and really appreciate the kind words. It was very refreshing to look through your eyes and feel your experiences because sometimes we might lose sight of what's good about this town and tend to focus on all the negative aspects of it.
This was a fresh new point of view of my home city, thank you!
Regarding the hills or tepes as they are called locally - there were originally 9 in total, but 2 were fully excavated for construction over a few hundred years during the ottoman occupation. The 7-th hill Markovo Tepe was made entirely of granite and is used for the square pavement all around the city. Once it was completely excavated, a shopping mall was built in it's place. The next three hills are the big ones you saw from the ruins in the old town and the final 3 are the one you visited and two smaller ones that are on the 2 sides of the Roman theater.
Thank you for a cool video :)
Bulgaria wasn't occupied by the Turks, it was enslaved!! Get your facts correct.
@@GeorgeGuerov It doesn't really matter in an English-speaking comment section, as much as we'd like and want that to matter, me and you both know literally nobody really cares here. Also, in order to get enslaved, you first need to be occupied
@@dimitar.bogdanov I beg to disagree! For a start the occupation as a military action did not take 500 years. I take your view on how much it matters to us, but opening even one pair of eyes to the truth, it's worth it, what do you think?
I love Roman ruins ❤ Definitely will add this to my must see list. 👍 Great video. 😉 Cheers and stay safe. ❤

Dear foreigners, welcome to Bulgaria, the most beautiful country in Europe ... Go around it all, go to all the amazing places in Bulgaria, and you will understand that there is no more beautiful and amazing nature than ours anywhere in Europe ... The only country in the world with four seasons with 3 months for each season, with so many natural resources, with so many mountains and forests and lakes, with so rich history, many thousands of years of history, we have everything we need, we Bulgarians live in PARADISE on EARTH!
For this reason we call our city from Plovdiv - pLOVEdiv
Best regards 🍾

Thanks for this wonderful video n thanks for sharing n showing your beautiful experience in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
I am a Plovdiv guy ! Thanks for the nice words ! Have fun discoverring more not so famous cities which deserve attention
Be careful what you wish for Plovdiv is getting big attention, unless you have real estate to sell and wish to make big money and move out. The californians especially are like locusts and they have only superficial interest in your culture and people, but much interest in your service to them. they will price the locals out of everything.
Thank you for showing my beautiful home!
Thanks for watching!
Oldest city in Europe. Such an amazing place. I love it!
We agree!
Plovdiv is the best place with the best people in Bulgaria (although my view may be biased because I am from Plovdiv 😃). I am so excited that foreigners are coming and exploring our country because it has so much to offer 🇧🇬 My second favourite city is Veliko Tărnovo and you should really go there. If you do, you must watch the light show on Tsarevets, it is just incredible. I hope you have an amazing rest of your time in Bulgaria ☺️☺️☺️
My beautiful hometown, miss it sooo much, can't wait to go back after 18yrs in the UK.Thank you very much for sharing your video,it was lovely watching it.
Thank you 😍❤️
Next year when you visit Plovdiv again (yes, you will), you definitely have to take a look at the rowing channel (called "Гребна база", and pronounced "Grebna baza"), along with the sports complex and park "Rozarium" next to it. Also, it's a good idea to climb the "Младежки хълм" (pronounced "Mladezki halm" and meaning "Youth's hill") and also take a ride on the kids train located on its south end.
Guys, thank you so much for creating this and inspiring people to visit Bulgaria! 🇧🇬
Hey guys, thank you for this wonderful video about my city.
The hill on which you were viewing the whole city but you didn't have any information for is actually an old sacred Thracian place with a Church and a fortress. We managed to preserve what was left. It dates back to probably 2 B.C. or maybe 2 A.C.
Thank you so much for watching! Plenty more videos to come!
Guys, you just made me cry🥺 I am actually from Plovdiv but I live in Italy since 2009.. I still love my city and you've just remembered me how gorgeous it is❤️❤️❤️Thank you so much for you video😘

Thank you for presenting our city so beautiful. I am happy to live here . Welcome back to Plovdiv:)
I have lived in Plovdiv and would really like to retire there. It's unbelievable
So gorgeous right!
Thank you for this video! I lived for 15 years in the old town of Plovdiv. I love the city and your video about it. You are wondering where is the 7th hill-some info about it:
"Plovdiv sits on seven hills, but the seventh, Markovo Tepe, was destroyed in the early twentieth century and its stone used to pave many of the city's streets."
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this video ❤️ I'm from Plovdiv and it made me smile❤️ you're always welcome here ❤️
Hey guys, I just stumbled upon your video in my recommendations and did not regret a second of it! It is crazy how my city looks like from a different point of view :) I got really homesick even though my last visit was just a couple of months ago, also during Easter :D (I've been living abroad for the last 6 years)
You've got a subscriber! Keep up the awesome work!
P.S: the smallest hill was ruined by a businessman who built a shopping mall on its ruins. At least he named the mall after it: Markovo Tepe...
Aw thank you so much! We really appreciate it! ❤️
Thank you Molly and Matt for sharing this beautiful awesome place thank you so much 🥰🥰🥰👍👍👍
Thank you for watching!
There were originally 7 hills in the past, but through the centuries two of them were demolished for stone and concrete. The one was, where the current Markovo Tepe Mall is ( the hill was called "Markovo Tepe", just like "Nebet Tepe" etc.) and the second one was where the old beer brewery of the current brand "Kamenitsa" was. The hill was also called "Kamenitsa" and currently there is a really cool new restaurant with different beer sorts and dishes made with beer. It is pretty recognizable because they kept the old brewery chimney that is quite high and with green and white stripes. I hope you enjoy your time in my home town and come again some time.
Great job showcasing Plovdiv. 👍👍
Thanks guys! xx
What a very good and high quality video, guys. Plovdiv is definitely one of Bulgaria's most beautiful cities. Still can't decide if Ruse, Veliko Tarnovo or Varna are. Ruse has so much Viennese architecture and loved it so much.

So grateful that i live in Plovdiv 😋 Great video!!
You are so lucky! Thanks for watching!
plovdiv and sofia have different vibes, plovdiv is quite, hip and pretty laid back, way smaller, but pretty nice, however, the dynamics in Sofia is way different and the plentyfull of options for nightlife. I love Plovdiv, people are very colourful and relaxed. Theres plenty of hip and cool bars and clubs in Sofia, but they are not very obvious. However, Good job for discovering Kapana.
I highly recommend going to Stara Zagora. It's less than 1hr away from Plovdiv. Stara Zagora is a smaller town, but incredible. It's also part of Trakia and outside the city there are mineral water baths, which is a great resort. And last but not least, there are around 8 parks in the city. You'll love it
Plovdiv is much better than Sofia, it should have been the capital of Bulgaria. People often go to Sofia or the Black sea resorts but Plovdiv is the definitely the place where you should go in Bulgaria. You can go visit also the Rhodope moutains which are nearby Plovdiv, they are simply unique. ( and Veliko Tarnovo is a special place too)
Sadly 2 of the 7 hills were removed, I think for construction projects, but don't quote me on that.
One hill, not two.
Well I'm from Plovdiv and I'm glad you liked my hometown so much🇧🇬
Thank you for watching ❤️
Plovdiv used to have 7 hills but one was destroyed because they needed stones to build a fortress… Otherwise, the 6 other hills are still standing. It just so happens that one of them has 3 bucks pinnacles. It’s like a three-headed hill, that’s why you were confused by the math. P.S. Make sure to visit the Old Basilica. It has gorgeous ancient mosaics - you’ll love it!
Hey guys I loved your video. I’ve been to Plovdiv once but you convinced me to visit it again😎thank you for being ambassadors for my beautiful country and all the best ❤️there are amazing places in England too it’s never too late to show one
Thanks a lot for the video! I am a Bulgarian, I am proud of the ancient Bulgarian history and I am glad that it is revealed for Europe as well. Plovdiv is one of the oldest cities, not only in Europe but also in the world. Bulgarian antiquity is associated with the Thracians - the ancestors of the Bulgarians. Almost every Bulgarian city has a Thracian ancient past, then Roman, then Bulgarian. But the people living in these lands, regardless of age, are still the same.
The old town is situated on 3 of the hills. When you were on top you could see the other 3. The 7th hill was Markovo Tepe which was destroyed and made into pavement for the streets of the city, way back in the 19th and 20th century. Now there's a shopping mall where it used to be.
The old town is actually located on tree hills. It doesn't look they are three because of the buildings on them. For example the ancient theatre in on one hill and the ancient fortress is on other. So by today we have 6 hills, cus the seventh one is...the stones of the streets you walked on is actually the hill. It was destroyed end user as a stone career.
Ps. Thank you for the nice words, you are always welcome again when you want and can ❤️
Very nice ❤👌
Thanks for watching!
Nice video tour of my home town! By the way where you had your beer near the Roman theatre are also 2 university campuses - in the narrow cobbled streets on the way up you can often hear live music as the yellow building on the right hand side is the music academy and further down past the ticket place is where I had my biology lectures when I was studying at Plovdiv University. We sometimes used to go and get a cheeky pint from where you guys sat during the break on a warm day haha!
Thank you for the great video you make about our country! Благодаря!
Thank you!
Cheers!!!love the view
Dude, the drone shots are everything! If you all haven’t friended Bulgarians to show you all the underground bars and speak easy’s yet, you should! Totally worth it! Plovdiv is the nicest city in Bulgaria. I once left half my heart there. It might still be there. Have to go back to find out! Cheers to both on an epic video and certainly hope you enjoyed thoroughly! Side note, “Kapana,” I’ve been told, is called the trap because of the layout of the few streets within it. They all look alike and are almost like a maze, and as you stumble out of the bars there, it sure feels like one.
What an amazing City. Loving your explorations!! Hair of the dog at 4pm? A bit late for your medicine!! Haha.

You are right, guys, the hills are no longer 7, they are 6. Plovdiv has always been known as the City of the seven hills and therefore compared to Rome. Currently, only six remain, as Markovo Tepe was demolished and a large shopping mall was built in its place.
Thanks for watching!
Yeah... You just gave me that nostalgia I haven't feel for last ten years living abroad...

Looks really nice!
It sure is!
The Philipopolis stadium runs under the entire pedetristrian area of Plovdiv, so this is why it is not possible to unearth what is below without destroying the city center, so only a small part is revealed. Same in Sofia...the city center lies ontop of the old Roman city and its main streets and forum.

Hahaha, if i give real home made BG white cheese to Westerners, 99% wouldnt be able to apreciate the taste just because they are used on comercial feta which tastes like chalk in my humble opinion. :)
That is true! Thanks for commenting!
