- In this Bulgaria travel video I will visit Plovdiv Bulgaria, one of the great European cities for travel and possibly the best city in Bulgaria for visitors. In this Bulgaria 4k video, I will go on a travel walking tour through this very beautiful city in Europe and show you the 15 best places to see in Plovdiv Bulgaria. My visit to Plovdiv is the next stop on my trip trough Central Bulgaria. This was my first time in Bulgaria and I was blown away by the many great places in Plovdiv. Plovdiv is the oldest city in Europe, a truly historic city in Southeastern Europe and one can easily explore it by foot. If you enjoy a good walk through the streets of Eastern Europe, I have put together a great walking tour that will cover the most important things to see in Plovdiv. Plovdiv (Bulgarian: Пловдив) is the second-largest city in Bulgaria, with a population of about 350,000 and is the cultural capital of Bulgaria. Plovdiv and its iconic hills have been inhabited for 8,000 years, making it one of the oldest continuously settled cities in the world. Plovdiv was known by the name Philippopolis after Philip II of Macedon. Its rich cultural life, beautiful ancient setting, and laid back atmosphere attract many foreigners but it’s a popular weekend destination for Bulgarians as well. I will show you some of the best churches to see in Eastern Europe, amazing historic monuments, including the ancient stadium of Philoppopolis and the ancient Roman theater, mosques, markets, the Kapana nightlife district, galleries and much more. So if you are curious about the best historic places to see on your Bulgaria trip and how to visit the city center, this video is for you. Stick around to the end for an amazing sunset in the city captured with my drone and a tip for a fantastic traditional barbecue restaurant serving the best Bulgarian food.

Hi everybody, this week’s video might be my favorite from my Bulgaria series. I just enjoyed Plovdiv so much. A truly fascinating city that should be on everyone’s travel map 😊👍
Way to go man!Great movie with very high quality picture and sound!!Also you managed to capture and present the atmosphere of this wonderful city!
Thank you very much 🌺
Bulgaria it's very, very beautiful land forever
🇧🇬🌹🌹🌹🇧🇬👍
I agree 👍😊
Amazing video of an amazing Plovdiv!
Proud to be a citizen of this ancient and etarnal european & bulgarian city Plovdiv 🇧🇬❤️
Thank you and greetings to beautiful Plovdiv 🌺
Such an amazing video of this beautiful, ancient city! ❤️
Thank you 🙏
Maritsa river, also known by its Thracian name Hebros, so hence the so-called Greek name Evros, was navigable in the past. It forms a delta where it flows into the Aegean that is a national park of Greece. Meric is simply Turkish pronounciation of Maritsa. Famous French singer of Bulgarian origin Sylvia Vartan has a song called Maritza. Plovdiv is most likely much older than what you claim, at least back to 6,000 BC. Also a well-known German historian has proven that Philippi from the Bible and St. Paul's letters was Plovdiv, known as Philippolis or Philippi in the past. The Turks up to this day call it Filibe (they lack p in their language). Actually in Roman times it was called Trimontium! Phillipopolis was the name given of Philip II of Macedon (not Macedonia), the father of Alexnder the Great, so the name is WAY before the Romans. Actually this city was never predominantly Musilm, even in Ottoman times. It was always very mixed with Greek, Armenian, Bulgarian and other populations, who settled there to trade. This is what makes it so special
Awesome, thank you 👍
Yes, it is true that St.Paul went to Plovdiv to teach the word of Jesus right after he died. That is why Bulgarians(who are desendents of Thracians) accepted the Christianity much earlier than other cultures and we had our own version of Christianity which was practiced by the Bogomils. They preached love, forgiveness and non violence. Unfortunately most of the bogomils were killed but it is impressive how this religion has survived until this very day, under the form of the White Brotherhood by Peter Dunov.
We do not lack P in our language. I have no idea how it became Filibe though.
You are author of excellent videos about Bulgaria. That one about Plovdiv is your masterpiece! Thank you!
Thank you very much 👍🌺😊
Been there twice, I love it!
It’s an amazing city 👍
Aerials are just stunning! Thanks for showing my home city!
Thank you for watching 👍🌺
The stadium runs under the main pedestrian street and you can see parts of it in some of the shops, not only the entrance by the Dzumaya mosque. Philip of Macedon was a conquerer, that conquered all of Thrace, so it nice enough that he has a statue. Basically he was an enemy. The Red Army occupied Bulgaria. They did not liberate Bulgaria but Plovdiv does not mind Alyosha, who has a song dedicated to him by a Soviet composer. The park around Alyosha hill is also nice. You should have visited the Bishop's Basilica. It's excellent with some nice mosaics. That part of town, at the opposite edge of the old town is also super nice. The Monday market is nearby
Thank you for this additional information . It’s such a fascinating city!
Росица, когато споменаваш исторически факти не може да премълчаваш част от тях, само за да се харесаш на чужденците! Да, България е била окупирана от СССР като страна, съюзник на нацистка Германия...! Позорен факт, но чиста истина..!
You are a master with the camera. Even the not so beautiful places look so good in this video. And you have really managed to capture the breathtaking ones
Thanks so much 🙏
Yes България 🇧🇬 -- Разград 🎉🎉❤❤
Janus, your Bulgaria videos are incredible, I've just finished the whole series and wow!
Thank you very much, I really appreciate 🙏😊
LoL... This was an excellent video. I have spent about 32 (++) of my 35 years and counting in it... and I have never seen it as beautiful as trough the lenses of your camera... ? o_0... Maybe... IDK... high quality camera aside... The day... The brightness of it... I swear I have felt some boiling hot, dyeing in your sweat, sitting under a shadow, drinking cold beer, days and it didn`t look ~that bright... Maybe it`s in the "Moderation"... Maybe it weren`t one of those particular days, or a dark humid and cold winter day... (definitely not duh) But the point is... IDK... stuffs looked ~clean, lean, civilized... I have been to most of the places on that video ~multiple... multiple... to more... times and Haven`t seen em like that. Oh well... whatever.
Will browse your channel for more of somewhere I am interested in Bulgaria, but definitely won`t check your "abroad" videos, because like ~whatever It`s non of my interests (just don`t take that as some fanatical nationalism... I am just in general not interested into much outside of small circle of things that do not require much ~travelling... at all... at least to my understanding). In fact I kind of totally dislike traveling and consider it epic w8st of time in any or all of it`s forms... foot, mountain bikes/bikes, cars, busses, ships, trains, plains... It`s a massive w8st of being alive... Maybe I just haven`t had that much of "the rest" of being alive... but I blame tourists and tourism for that :P (Partially and as kind of a joke, since it`s not one`s actual fault in particular, not even mine)
Thank you for watching and looking forward to hear what you think about my other Bulgaria videos. I very much enjoyed my travels there 👍
❤ciao compliments fir this nice video

12:44 So what did you whisper in his ear Janus? Or is it classified? 😀
32:51 Janus and his beloved sunsets... 🌇
Gorgeous video of Plovdiv Janus. 🥰👍🌹
Haha, must remain a secret 😂
@@januslog So you did whisper in his ear. Hmmm... 😃
Hermoso reportaje. 👍😊
Gracias 🙏
How did find those cities in Bulgaria? You must have done lot of homework 😀👍 Thank you for the wonderful video.
Yes, I always do a bit of homework ahead of my travels 😅👍
Love your videos... I've only seen the Sofia and this one... did you go inside the H&M store in the pedestrian street? one can see a part of the long portion of the stadium... we visited Bulgaria in 2019 not knowing what to expect, and we LOVED it, especially Plovdiv and old Nessebar... Thanks for sharing, we look forward to visit Bulgaria again!
It’s an amazing city and the history is mind boggling
I missed the H&M store but thanks for the tip!
Thank youuuu!!❤❤❤
Happy travels 🌺
Another enjoyable video from you, Janus. Thanks a lot ! So glad to be your subscriber 😍 Like in another wonderful cities in Bulgaria, Plovdiv has also a high density of beautiful spots. Did you visit Dzhumaya mosque on Friday? Greetings from 🇮🇩
Thank you Dina. Unfortunately, I was not there on a Friday. It’s a beautiful mosque though 👍🌺
Wow, this by far is one of the nicest videos I’ve seen on Plovdiv.
Thanks so much 🙏
Hey Janus, so much in this video to visit. Not sure how you did it in one day. How cool to see the ruins. It must have been amazing in the 1970’s to find ruins after a land slide. Hope all is well…
I spent several days there as it is indeed difficult to see all of this in one day, at least if you want to do each place a bit of justice. Fascinating city!
And the Rodopi mountains.
Plovdiv is my favorite city in Bulgaria - just so beautiful and enchanting
There are quite a few more places worth visiting in Plovdiv. For your next trip I recommend to visit the following:
- the Rowing channel (simply ask for "Grebna baza") and the park around at the west end of Plovdiv;
- the Bratska mogila located about 400 meters south of Grebna baza;
- climb the 4 main hills in Plovdiv: Mladezhki halm, Danov halm, Halm na osvoboditelite a.l.a. Alyosha, and the Old town of Plovdiv plus the ancient ruins on top of it;
- ride on the kid's train (ask people for "detska zheleznica") located at the south end of the "Mladezhki halm";
- park "Lauta" (a wood located at the east end of Plovdiv).
Thank you for the additional tips 👍🌺
@@januslog , you did an amazing job showing the city of Plovdiv and hopefully some day you will be able to visit it again and film even more interesting places here. Cheers!
Чудесно видео! ❤
Thank you 👍🌺
Great vlog Janus. A lovely looking place and nice visuals too.
Thank you very much 🙏
@@januslog you're welcome
You have some of the best most comprehensive videos on Bulgaria ive seen so far, i have gotten a few job offers down there im considering so these help in giving me some info on the country.
Is the inflation particularly bad down there with price increases? I heard some rumors of that.
Thank you for watching. I’m no longer there so don’t have any current insights but my hunch would be that even with inflation, prices will likely still be far cheaper than anywhere else in Western Europe.
@@januslog While you where there you still found food and hotels to be affordable?
@@theswede5402 definitely, one of the most affordable countries in the EU.
Yoi should've visited Hisarya as well. Its only 40min drive from Plovdiv.
Thank you for the tip 👍
Its much older city but anyway.Cool video
Thank you!
Hi janus, i love your videos, Good Work :-) I have a wish or two :-) When i see your videos, i try to mark the spots in my google maps for later use on my vacation. This is not at all easy when you are walking in citys. Can i ask you to add street names in plain text ? Can i ask you to hold the overview a few more sekonds allowing me (us) to understand that you walk from one specific number on the map, to another number ? I think that would be very helpful. Thank you :-)
Thank you very much for the suggestions. Street names might be tricky but I’ll try to add some more screen time of the maps going forward 👍
🤩🤩🤩🤩✌️
Thank you Anna 👍
Wspaniałe miasto, pełne historii i zieleni. Mieszkałem i studiowałem tam. Teraz Plowdiw jeszcze wyladnial
The MARITSA river.!!!!!
It’s so beautiful 🌸
Wow! What a great video! I'm really glad that you covered most of the sights in Plovdiv. Did you made some research before your visit? For me Alyosha monument is very controversial, because it's linked with Russian occupancy and our communist past. There's still a lot improvements that could be done here like the "Tobacco city", the Maritsa River bed, Eastern gate of Philippopolis and etc. and I hope they will ready for next visit here. You are always welcome.
Thanks so much! Yes, I try to research a place before going so I can see and learn as much as possible. I loved my stay in Plovdiv!
The biggest shame of Plovdiv as well as Sofia and Varna are the russian monuments. Me, as a Bulgarian, I apologise. Unfortunately, during the last couple of hundreds years, we were forced to except the version of history concerning these...russian people and there is nothing we can do about it.
Yes, it’s part of history though
I didn’t mind them as long as one puts them into context
those are SOVIET monuments, not Russian ..
