Vin Rock talks about how during the pandemic they had to do audit on their publishing and all other businesses and realize they weren't being properly compensated for that publishing from the first two albums. Because of this, they went on to collect millions of dollars during the pandemic.

Nothing but love and respect, but what I'm hearing here is that they weren't keeping up with their royalties, if they were owed 12 years of money. Why don't they have someone managing and staying on top of that?
I, Detox Jones, was under the assumption that they assumed they were collecting royalties for all their work. However, when you slow down to a grind like we all did in the pandemic, you have enough time to focus on what's important
Yeah Something seems off here. I'm a Songwriter & one of their SROs either BMI or ASCAP tracks things like this. If they have their own Publishing Company they're the ones who should have been tracking this. How did they not know that they weren't getting Royalties for 12 years?

@@boss1star The problem with Lump Sum payouts is that the Gov't. taxes you at the highest rate instead of filing Income taxes yearly & allowing for itemization, deductions, etc. This was sloppy if non existent book keeping.
Vin talks like being a hustler on the streets makes you immune from being shafted, especially in that era when good information is hard to come by. They were blessed they had good mentors along way.

Y wouldn't your attorney tell u to check that publishing? & to the shady publishing companies, y didn't they call u guys? They will just let millions sit there in publishing royalties!😮🤔🤔👀. But I've never heard 1 white artist say publicly that they had publishing issues.
I think a lot of people are embarrassed to talk about their financial situation and be honest about what's happening in their lives. We praise Vin Rock for conveying such stories like this.
Paul McCartney sued to disband The Beatles due to royalty theft and mismanagement. It happens across every genre, but hip-hop was different because EVERYBODY was eating except the artists.

Don't make the mistake of assuming this was a race thing. The industry has been screwing songwriters since day one. You have to consider that very few megastars wrote their own music, so the people most affected by the publishing are behind the scenes and haven't had as much leverage or resources to fight for their just due. The stories are out there, but they have mostly gone under the radar since songwriters generally aren't household names.

Not trying to be funny or look at another man's pockets but publishing is 50% to who makes the beat, 50% to who writes the lyrics. KG did the tracks. Treach wrote all the verses. How does Vin get publishing? Maybe he wrote a lot of the hooks.
Alot of the times groups have certain splits so if like guy that started the group and owns the name he will get a piece of publishing even if he don't write or produce because he owns the group I have seen that many times
