Basement kitchens are where Italian families cook everyday meals but they also serve as auxiliary kitchen for large gatherings. The other things that basement kitchens are used for is for large messy jobs like canning tomatoes.
As we know, it wasn't until italian grandmothers existing that basements just spontaneous popped into reality. Yup. Only italian grandmothers, no way other cultures did this AT ALL.

I like that Sam goes “if you just tuned in…” at 4:28 as if people just have CZcams on the tv or something and jump in to the middle of episodes.

@@ODRM2022 My family is from Sicily, and as I got older I found that the Sicilians called it sauce and the mainland Italians called it gravy.
It's gravy if there's meat in it otherwise it's sause... my Moter is Sicilian and my Father is Calabrese

Ah. The humble food that sounds wonky but the taste is impeccable.
I am going to say one thing you need to add some heat maybe with hot sauce and or jalapenos or something a bit more spicy is all I can say and maybe a pinch of dill just saying!!!

I normally do not comment on videos, but I had to for this video. I am going to make this with 2 of my grandbabies, 7 and 4 year olds, that I have for the summer. They love helping me make food, and I always let them make their own pizzas as it is their favorite food to eat, along with pasta and red sauce, chicken nuggets, french fries, etc, lol. The one thing they always have to have is ranch with almost everything, so I can't wait to try your recipe with them!
Grandma basement kitchens kept the house cool during the summer. I'll definitely make this in the fall when the weather cools down

We just made this recipe. Save yourself a mess and possible fire in the oven, butter leaks out of the springform pan! Use a bundt pan instead.

Sam: when my ex husband dragged me to suburban NJ to live, we were fascinated when we looked at homes to buy BECAUSE the Italian homes had second, huge kitchens down in their basements, with big screen TVs, giant dining tables, pool tables: party zone. So you are right! Real Italian families in NJ all have this whole party zone in their basements with a fabulous kitchen! I had no idea, being a California girl.
