Kung Lao's Friendship became a fatality in Shaolin Monks as well. He straight up beats the crap out of you with the rabbit.

I always thought Baraka's Impale Fatality was really creepy. He just impales you and as you slide down, he looks into your eyes as you bleed out and die. Looking at it from that angle, it's simple, sure, but imagine his face being the last thing you ever see, dying in complete terror at that sinister grin. Sometimes simple is best.

What made Liu kangs flipping uppercut fatality interesting was the concept because he's a Shaolin monk and he doesn't kill (even though he eats you) it was probably a call back to mk1

A MasterClass in missing the point
When I was a little kid, I had an obscure Russian gaming magazine that had all the moves for MKII on the Genesis and finishing moves all had little commentaries. The Kitana one was "beats all your teeth out, then bakes you a cake with nuts". To this day that is literally the only thing I remember from there.
I remember in a magazine from that time it showed Baraka’s friendship and said something like, “This is for when the scars heal.”

Now, they might have decided to put in friendships due to the outcries of the violence, but according to Daniel Pesina, the first Friendship came from the first Sonya actress, Elizabeth Malecki, whom didn't want to do anything violent. She asked John Tobias, "What if Sonya gave a flower instead of killing them?" They thought that was hilarious, and this ultimately led to the first Kiss of Death Fatality, but she inadvertently created the first Friendship before they even decided to put them in the second game.

Milenna had the best friendship btw. Randomly planting a flower and striking a pose after beating someone down is just hilarious.
If Johnny’s first one is a 5, then his second is a 15. Five for each head
One of the fun things was Shang Tsung had the ability to do any character's Fatalities, providing you had the time to transform during the Fatality time frame. A favorite of mine was a combination of Sub Zero/ Scorpion. Sub Zero's first half of deep freezing the opponent could reset the Fatality timer, so with Shang Tsung transformed to Sub Zero, I'd continue the first part until he transformed back. After that was the transformation to Scorpion and his torching Fatality for the equivalent of an implosion. And since the torch fatality had a version that could be anywhere on screen, you didn't have to worry about range afterward.

That’s a favorite of mine to do. I have one guy on my friends list for PS3, and we still play the Arcade Kollection. We’d call that one toasty ice. lol I also would like to freeze them and do Kung Lao’s hat slice.

I was a dumb kid that held down buttons when I didn't need to, but that led to discovering Shang Tsung's secret fatality after beating my older brother, followed immediately by the both of us freaking the fuck out. One of the best days of my childhood 😂 Also how I discovered the secret Acclaim intro (on the SNES version). Having this stuff happen to you before the internet took off was wild.
Oh yeah, where Kintaro would stomp on the logo. I remember that too. A bygone era for sure. Glad others are still around to remind people of that.

Back in the day, the fact that Shang Tsung had a third one totally blew my mind.
Kung Lao had the best fatality (Splitting Headache) and the best friendship, which both involved the hat. That took skills.

This stuff was crazy back in the day. There was no internet and the only way to know how to do them was through magazines or word of mouth. It was insane to see these. The sound and everything was cool in the arcades. These were more to the point too versus the long and over the top ones you see now. I think the brutalities are more similar to the classic fatalities. I will always appreciate all of these a bit more though as MKII is my favorite one in the series. MKELEVEN looks good though

Mortal Kombat II featured some of the best fatalities ever. The element of surprise was gone so Midway had to step up their game, and they delivered. 👍
The element of surprise has never left MK. Look at the new D'Vorah and both Cage fatalities. Those were entirely unexpected.

All of these rate the fatality videos are just Maximilian saying "It was gonna be a (Low number) then, (Fatality actually finished) and now its a (High number)"
I can't stomach too much gore, but out of morbid curiosity I wanted to see some fatalities, but only the old ones are not realistic enough for me. So I appreciate the rate the finishers on the older games! ^^
Late I know but I think we need to come up with a way to be able to view the newer fatalities in this graphical format so people who have trouble watching gore can enjoy the newer fatalities without the gory bits.

I know I’m super late but Max needs to play MK2+, it’s a mod to the OG game. Restored sprites and animations lost in code and prototypes, 2 on 2, endurance matches (since it was lost from MK1), Shao Khan has his victory knee,…other add ons to add to the OG game. The modders were very meticulous, and consulted various official resources.
The Christmas story reference was spot on.... legs are still there make a lamp 😂

I think they should've switched Jax and Baraka's Friendships. It makes more sense for Baraka to make paper dolls and you could put a jack in the box for Jax's Friendship to make a Jax in the box joke.
