It was my only pathway for success with both of these last year. Plus, it’s so much easier-more hands off and the plants grew freely without any setbacks!
I love that idea but my season is short. What zone do you live in?

Thank you for sharing this. I had no idea you can cut back zucchini. I also use mostly homemade compost and I get great crops. Thank you for the information on the bad insects. I saw the brown last year and I wasn't sure what caused it. I appreciate you mentioning zucchini since last was my first time growing. Seems us home gardeners are learning all the time.
I grew 2 eggplants for the first time last year about 25' apart with some stringbeans on the outside and followed your method. They had no pest or fungal issues and were so beautiful/perfect. This was a confirming video for me, as well as some new detail tips! I think it helps not to plant close to each other because they may be a bigger attractor/target/contaminator.
I am still learning for sure.

Thanks so much for the information Gary. No one ever talks (at least I have not heard) about planting in succession when it comes to zucchini or squash. I love both of these vegetables, but either the vine borer or the dreaded squash bug destroys my plants. I have two zucchini plants in 20 gallon grow bags. I really appreciate your teaching style. Have a great day!
Planting through summer for zukes and cukes really works. Good luck.

Won't that zucchini plant be long dead before the granular organic fertilizer becomes available to the plant? It seems like that side dressing is fertilizer that's going to help next year's garden
Microbes, especially in healthy soil, multiple and digest pretty fast. As they do, some becomes ready early, some takes much longer. So it will help this plant but that is why we also use water soluble fertilizer. A lot will be ready in August for new plants that replace them.

Quick question! So should I wait to cut back the stems til I start seeing flowers or should I do it before? I have a few larger leaves but not sure if the under leaves are getting sun. When it's really hot outside I am indoors. Also what time of the day is the best time to prune. Last year I pruned my tomatoes early evening
Under leaves that are well shaded can be removed when you want. Early evening is good as the get some recovery time.

Funny, zucchini plants are one of the few that don't get attacked by bugs in my area. One plant can go all season. Beets and chard, on the other hand, get attacked by leaf miners within a couple days.

Hello Garry, all my plants are in containers and the only organic matter is fertilizer
What should I put ,compost or water soluble fertilizer?
Fertilizers arent much on increasing organic matter. But they give the nutrients. You really want compost, leaf mold, even peat moss, mixed through the soil. For now I would just use water soluble fertilizer and improve the soil at the end of the season.

So help me get this correct. Water zucchini, every other day? Is that the same for tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers? Does the baking soda recipe work for all plants or just zucchini?
Watering is complicated based on temps and plant size so there isn't an exact way. You can go with every other day. Always test spray the baking soda on all new plants but in theory you can use it on any plant.
